  • Patent number: 4409061
Abstract: A machine for the tying of packages, having a gripper which places the tying means around the package, the gripper being moved by a pull means and stopped in a position where the ends of the tying means are connected to each other. A consistent return of the gripper to the basic position is due to the fact that the basic position of the gripper lies approximately at the center point of an arcuate section of the path of the gripper pull means so that the gripper position is retained even though the pull means may continue to move.

  • Patent number: 4406728
Abstract: This invention discloses apparatus for binding an article, such as a pack of bank notes, with a tape in a binding position. For this purpose, with rotation of a rotating member, the tape is supported by tape loop supporting pins and is wound to form a loop before a binding operation. The article is pushed into the loop and pressed before the tape is wound around the article. The tape supporting pins are retracted to disengage from the loop. The tape is drawn in a direction opposite to the supplying direction so as to be wound tightly around the article, and the trailing end of the tape is cut. The cut end of the tape is adhered to an adjacent portion of the tape. In this manner, tape binding is completed.

  • Patent number: 4301720
Abstract: A machine for tying a coil of wire with ties comprises a substantially flat support having at least one cutout, wherein the coil and the flat support are movable with respect to each other to place a portion of the coil into the cutout. A clamp is provided in the region between the closed end of the cutout and the adjacent end face of the coil for gripping one end of the tie at a fixed point. A tie guide rotatably mounted on the flat support defines a path about the cutout and carries an element for gripping a point of the tie adjacent the fixed point so that during rotation of the tie guide the tie is wound about the portion of the coil in the cutout. A cutter arranged in the region between the closed end of the cutout and the end face of the coil serves to cut the tie after being wound about the portion of the coil, whereafter the ends of the tie are twisted by twisting elements.

  • Patent number: 4230035
Abstract: An improved tensioning method, for tensioning the tying medium of a package tying machine, results from mounting a novel tensioning device on the tying machine's rotatable twine arm. The tensioning device utilizes a funneling structure to gather the tying medium, whether twine or tape or other material, into a prescribed volume while tensioning the same, thereby allowing a relatively high uniform tension value to be maintained in the tying medium throughout the package tying cycle.

  • Patent number: 4153499
Abstract: A cyclicly operable machine for providing a tensioned loop of fusible thermoplastic strapping about a loosely positioned object, wherein a hoop-mounted slip-feed carrier is caused to orbit the object in one direction while one end of the strapping is held by a gripper. In so orbiting, the carrier progressively wraps a closed loop about the object, the loop having overlapping ends which become sealed to each other by a friction-fusion operation. Such sealing accomplished by a cooperating anvil and vibrator which move into the strap path to create the seal and away from the path to allow the sealed loop to completely seize the object, after which a cutter severs the excess strapping from the object. A reverse orbiting of the carrier similarly applied a successive strap loop to the object.

  • Patent number: 4126983
Abstract: Disclosed in a binding tape dispensing and dealing mechanism for an apparatus for binding a bundle of paper sheets such as paper money with the binding tape, which mechanism comprises a ring-like or annular flyer provided with tape guide rollers for holding and guiding the binding tape therebetween. The annular flyer is adapted to be rotated about a bundle of the stacked papers disposed substantially at a center portion of the flyer ring, to thereby wind the binder tape about the paper bundle as the flyer ring is revolved about the center thereof. The tape dealing mechanism further includes a cutter for cutting the tape in a predetermined length, a pressing lever for pressing the cut end portion of the binder tape wound around the bundle of stacked papers against a lateral side of the paper stack, a spring and cam for controlling the operation of the cutter, and another spring and cam for controlling the movement of the pressing lever relative to the lateral side of the paper stack.

  • Patent number: 4117650
Abstract: Disclosed in a tape winding mechanism for an apparatus for binding a bundle of stacked paper sheets such as paper money with a binding tape or strip. The apparatus comprises a rotatable ring-like flyer body provided with a first stationary guide roller and a second movable roller which is mounted on a flyer ring in such a manner that it can be brought into contact with the first guide roller, to thereby hold and guide a nipped tape end portion under the resilient force of a spring. The bundle of papers to be bound is disposed in an inner space of the flyer ring body. The binding tape is fed from a supply reel and the leading end portion is inserted into the paper stack which is then held in a compressed state. When the flyer body is rotated around the paper by a suitable drive means, the tape as held and guided by the first and second rollers is wound around the paper bundle in a desired number of turns. Thereafter the tape is cut and the cut end portion of the tape is bonded to the wound tape portion.

  • Patent number: 4111116
Abstract: Disclosed is an apparatus for holding a stack of papers such as paper money in a compressed state before and during the winding of a binder tape around the stack to form a bound paper bundle. The apparatus comprises first and second bases or platforms longitudinally aligned to each other with a gap interposed therebetween. Each of the platforms is in the upper surface thereof formed with an arcuately concaved longitudinal recess which is adapted to be covered by resilient plate for receiving thereon the stack of papers to be bound. Disposed above the first and second platforms is a vertically movable pressing pad plate which has an arcuately convexed lower surface. The stack of papers placed on the resilient plate can thus be clamped between the platforms and the lowered pressing pad and held in the arcuately compressed state.

  • Patent number: 4090441
Abstract: Apparatus for baling newspapers or the like has a folding unit which folds and compacts successive newspapers and delivers successive folded newspapers to a conveyor which advances the newspapers onto a support on which the newspapers pile up to form a stack. A pusher is operated intermittently to transfer successive stacks into the range of a transporting unit which advances each stack against a retractible gate whereby the stack is held in an optimum position for looping a cord therearound before the gate opens to permit the transporting device to advance the thus obtained bale toward a packing machine. The transporting unit has a bottom guide which is assembled of a front and a rear belt conveyor and a stationary bridge between the conveyors, and two lateral guide members which terminate short of the gate.

  • Patent number: 3996719
Abstract: A method and apparatus are disclosed for applying a strap, which may have identifying indicia printed thereon, about an article, such as a piece of luggage, or other package. The article is placed within an opening defined by a closed loop support frame, and one end of the strapping material is engaged by a carrier pin attached to a chain which travels around the support frame. A loop is formed on the leading end of the tape surrounding the carrier pin, such that when the carrier pin is moved around the closed loop frame, and around the article, the tape is drawn from a supply reel and encircles the article. At the end of its circumferential trip around the article, the movement of the carrier pin is ceased, and the free, leading end of the strap is adhesively secured to a following portion of the strap so as to form a closed loop around the article.
