Wipers Patents (Class 101/167)
  • Patent number: 4667597
Abstract: A blanket cleaner for removing dust, lint or ink from a blanket cylinder in an offset printing press during the uninterrupted course of a press run. A first fluid cylinder periodically urges a brush against the blanket cylinder and retracts the brush from the blanket cylinder. Retraction of the brush permits the dust and lint swept before the brush to fall onto a door of a lint catcher. The door is raised and lowered by action of a second fluid cylinder. Operation of the second fluid cylinder lags the operation of the first fluid cylinder by an interval of time sufficient to permit the dust, lint or ink to fall onto the door. In the preferred embodiment, the structure includes a device for removal of debris from the lint catcher.

  • Patent number: 4557195
Abstract: A pad-type printing machine with a mount for a cliche, with an ink supply device exhibiting a hollow body, whereby during the operation of the machine the end face of the hollow body rests at least occasionally on the cliche, with a device for pressing the end face of the hollow body against the cliche, with a device for producing a relative motion between the cliche and the hollow body, whereby the hollow body is guided such that it can swivel about an axis extending basically parallel to the relative motion, and with a pad which can be pressed onto the inked cliche and which accepts the ink from the recesses in the cliche and transfers it onto an object to be printed is characterized by the fact that at least on some of the circumference of its end face the hollow body comprises hard material and is microfinished with a peak-to-valley height of at most 2 .mu.

  • Patent number: 4499825
Abstract: An ink wiping device for an intaglio rotary printing machine comprises a tank for containing a cleaning liquid therein, an ink wiping roller rotatably supported in the tank and having a circumferential surface positioned for rolling contact with a printing plate of the intaglio rotary printing machine, the ink wiping roller having a portion immersible in the cleaning liquid, and a cleaning assembly disposed in the tank and immersible in the cleaning liquid for cleaning the circumferential surface of the ink wiping roller. The cleaning assembly includes at least one brush unit adjustably supported in the tank and having a plurality of rows of bristles having distal ends located in the vicinity of the circumferential surface of the ink wiping roller, and a cleaning sheet of synthetic fibered nonwoven cloth supported on the brush unit and interposed between the circumferential surface of the ink wiping roller and the distal ends of the bristles.

  • Patent number: 4470348
Abstract: A printer-processor is used to print multi-ply business forms. The printer processor uses paper from a paper roll and uses an absorptive ink which dries substantially by absorption. The ink stays in liquid form during stopping and starting periods of the printer processor. The ink is also thixotropic so as to remain at proper film thickness on the printing surfaces of the printer processor at operational speeds or when stopped. The absorptive thixotropic ink enables the printer processor to deliver to the collator webs of paper having an uninterrupted sequence of images of uniform quality. The paper has one continuous path between the printer processor and the manifold forms collator. To enable the printer processor to print all common form sizes from small cylinders, a unique cluster of gears arrangement is attached to the impression cylinder of the printing unit. This cluster contains gears with circular pitches which are the increments which are evenly divisible into the common form sizes.

  • Patent number: 4466348
Abstract: The swab printing machine is provided with an inking device having a carriage. A spreader support with a spreader head is tippably arranged on the frontal side of the carriage and can reciprocate over a printing plate. The spreader which is inclined backward by about 20.degree., takes ink from the ink container during its forward motion and distributes it over the printing plate, whereby the two rounded slide feet achieve the uniform distribution of the ink. During the return motion the excess ink is wiped off by a doctor blade. A laterally running recess is arranged in the lower portion of the spreader and the lower edge of this recess forms a narrow dipping edge. An adjustable central closure is provided on the spreader support and on the spreader head. After the initial positioning of the spreader head it is possible to remove same, clean it and remount it, without making readjustments.

  • Patent number: 4393775
Abstract: An ink fountain including a frame defining a horizontal slot adjacent the fountain roller. Arranged side by side in the slot is a metering assembly in the form of a series of flat slides each having a cam assembly at its rear end for adjusting the position of the slide with respect to the fountain roller thereby to meter ink in predetermined thickness in respective zones. Each slide is formed of a body having secured thereto a rectangular tip portion formed of resilient plastic. The tip portion of each slide has embedded in it a blade of wear resistant spring metal, the blade being coextensive with the width of the slide and so oriented as to present a flat face to the fountain roller defining, with the fountain roller, a sharply acute cusp.
