Patent number: 10976263Abstract: An apparatus and methods of decorating a metallic container are provided. More specifically, the present invention relates to apparatus and methods used to provide a decoration on a predetermined portion of a metallic container body. The decorator includes a sensor that senses decorations on metallic containers. A control system receives information related to the sensed decorations from the sensor and then determines if the decorations at least meet predetermined color, density, thickness, orientation, and consistency targets. The control system can automatically adjust elements of the decorator to correct a deficient decoration. In one embodiment, the control system can automatically adjust ink blades associated with a plurality of inking assemblies of the decorator to adjust the color, density, orientation, positioning, and consistency of decorations transferred to the metallic containers.Type: GrantFiled: July 19, 2017Date of Patent: April 13, 2021Assignee: BALL CORPORATIONInventors: John Efner, Kellie Hedberg

Patent number: 8789491Abstract: A cap sheet metal (and pivot sheet metal) is configured to be able to move linearly with a cap arm (and an arm stay) via engagement between an engagement hole and a fitting shaft. Furthermore, the cap sheet metal (and the pivot sheet metal) can move pivotally with respect to the cap arm (and the arm stay) using the fitting shaft, which engages with the engagement hole, as a pivotal shaft. Thus, even if, for example, the direction of biasing toward the applying roller deviates or a positional relationship with the applying roller deviates slightly, the liquid holding member moves and pivots in the bias direction depending on the deviation. As a result, the contacting pressure of a contacting portion on the applying roller can be made uniform.Type: GrantFiled: January 16, 2009Date of Patent: July 29, 2014Assignee: Canon Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Hideaki Nagahara, Tetsuyo Ohashi, Hiroshi Yoshino, Takeshi Sekino, Keisei Hakamata

Patent number: 8774681Abstract: An apparatus in an example comprises a guide, a driven member, and a carriage. Tension in the driven member generates a moment that biases the carriage against the guide.Type: GrantFiled: September 26, 2008Date of Patent: July 8, 2014Assignee: Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.Inventors: Ryan Smith, Rob Mueller, Kevin Bokelman

Patent number: 8499692Abstract: An anilox printing unit includes, as inking unit rolls, an ink applicator roll and an engraved roll mounted in rapid change roll sockets, for removing the engraved roll from the roll sockets and inserting another engraved roll into the roll sockets by an operator. The engraved roll is hollow and a temperature control fluid flows therethrough. The engraved roll and the ink applicator roll each have bearer rings. A device which presses the bearer rings of one inking unit roll against the bearer rings of the other inking unit roll has springs for compensating for diameter differences as a result of manufacturing tolerances between the bearer rings of the engraved roll and the bearer rings of the other engraved roll and for compensating for thermally induced diameter changes of the bearer rings of the engraved roll. A printing press having an anilox printing unit is also provided.Type: GrantFiled: November 20, 2007Date of Patent: August 6, 2013Assignee: Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AGInventors: Gisela Binder, Suat Demir, Jürgen Michels, Ulrich Pföhler, Dieter Schaffrath, Jörg Schilfahrt, Wolfgang Schönberger, Bernhard Schwab, Michael Thielemann

Patent number: 8042467Abstract: A printing press includes a first rotary body with a first bearer ring and a second rotary body with an axle which eccentrically supports a second bearer ring. The second bearer ring is in rolling contact with the first bearer ring and is rotatably coupled to the second rotary body.Type: GrantFiled: September 22, 2008Date of Patent: October 25, 2011Assignee: Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AktiengesellschaftInventors: Dieter Schaffrath, Dirk Buchleither, Suat Demir, Jürgen Michels, Roland Müller, Jörg Schilfahrt, Wolfgang Schönberger, Bernhard Schwaab, Michael Thielemann

Patent number: 6931990Abstract: A stamper with a metal plate positioned between a platen and a stamp die is disclosed. The metal plate results in an improved imprint by providing better support to the stamp die. The stamper further comprises a removable ink pad and a rotatably reversible platen with cam mechanism. The metal platen plate with it's adjoining stamp die face downwards when the stamper is in an imprint position and the metal platen plate with it's adjoining stamp die face upwards when the stamper is in a re-inking position.Type: GrantFiled: September 26, 2003Date of Patent: August 23, 2005Assignee: Sun Coast Merchandise Corp.Inventor: Chen Hui Wei

Patent number: 6912953Abstract: A roller machine includes a rotatably mounted roller body which can be placed on or against one counter roller. The roller has at least one axis and at least one spring element which is arranged between the roller body and a machine frame. The spring element is disposed between the roller body and the part of the axis which is used to secure the roller.Type: GrantFiled: August 28, 2002Date of Patent: July 5, 2005Assignee: Koenig & Bauer AktiengesellschaftInventor: Horst-Walter Hauer

Patent number: 6354202Abstract: A dampening unit of a planographic printing machine has a pan roller, a transfer roller, and a dampening unit roller. The transfer roller is held in bearing contact against the dampening unit roller with a regulating force such as, in particular, a spring force FF. The transfer roller, together with the pan roller, is pivotable about a pivot axis that is offset relative to the roller axis of the pan roller, and/or the pivot axis lies essentially on a tangential line running through a circumferential contact point which is formed by the transfer roller together with the dampening unit roller.Type: GrantFiled: March 17, 2000Date of Patent: March 12, 2002Assignee: Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AGInventor: Peter Heiler

Patent number: 6178887Abstract: An ink fountain has one side closed by a fountain roller constantly exposed to the ink contained therein. Forming a part of the fountain bottom, a blade assembly defines in combination with the fountain roller an ink outlet which is to be closed and opened as the blade assembly travels toward and away from the fountain roller. Sprung away from the fountain roller, the blade assembly is moved toward the fountain roller against the spring bias by at least two linear actuators such as double-ended-rod fluid actuators spaced from each other in the axial direction of the fountain roller. The output members of the linear actuators, such as the reciprocable cylinders of the double-ended-rod fluid actuators, are rigidly interconnected as by a simple link, being aligned parallel to the fountain roller axis, for synchronous operation, thereby conjointly causing the travel of the blade assembly into leak-free contact with the fountain roller.Type: GrantFiled: July 9, 1999Date of Patent: January 30, 2001Assignee: Kabushiki Kaisha Tokyo Kikai SeisakushoInventors: Tadashi Hachiya, Masahiko Miyoshi, Yukitoshi Takahashi
