    Abstract: The problems of applying ink jet inks to various known coating surfaces so as to overcome smearing, poor resolution and attack by water etc., is overcome by the use of the new ink jet receptive media. The media comprises in combination: (1) a waterproof ink jet receptive coating, (2) a primer coating, (3) a non-porous substrate, (4) a pressure sensitive adhesive coating, (5) a silicone coating and (6) a backer layer. The receptive coating comprises the combination of: (1) binder, (2) charge control agent, (3) cross-linking agent, (4) adhesion enhancing agent and (5) dispersant. The absorption of the ink jet ink to the substrate is maximized, thus attracting and fixing the ink and providing a waterproofing effect.

    Abstract: Phase change compositions that are solid at ambient temperature and liquid at an elevated temperature above ambient temperature are disclosed for advantageous use in selective deposition modeling methods for building three-dimensional objects. A phase change composition according to the disclosed invention is a semi-crystalline component mixture having a freezing point of at least about 68° C., a melting point of at least about 88° C. and a viscosity of about 13 centipoise at 135° C. The composition includes a plurality of waxes having a broad melting point range and molecular weight range. Three-dimensional objects having minimal curl, delamination and stress cracks can be produced at a faster rate than heretofore known by using selective deposition modeling techniques employing the disclosed compositions.

    Abstract: A composition and method for cleaning and conditioning a non-conductive surface defined by a through hole in a printed circuit board (PCB) is disclosed. The through hole surface is contacted with the composition of the invention to provide a cleaned and conditioned surface. The clean and conditioned surface is coated with conductive carbon particles (usually graphite) to provide a carbon-coated surface. The carbon-coated surface is electro plated and then soldered using hot solder. Those surfaces that have been soldered and also treated with the composition of the invention exhibit fewer blow hole problems. The composition of the invention comprises a cationic conditioning agent and one of a binder or an anionic dispersant that improve the adhesion and coverage of a coating containing graphite to a surface defined by a through hole bore or other substrate. (“Through holes” as used herein refers both to through holes and to vias.

The hardcoat is produced from a coating component containing one or more organic components having a polymerizable functional group and an inorganic filler, at least one of the organic components being free from a hydrogen bond-forming group. In the hard coat, the content of the inorganic filler in the surface of the hardcoat is higher than that in the interior of the hardcoat. The hardcoat can be applied to antireflection films and hologram labels.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to a stabilized emulsified or dispersed composition comprising a hydrophobic phase and an aqueous phase, the composition being stabilized by a cationic colloidal coacervate stabilizing agent, the coacervate stabilizing agent comprising an anionic component and a cationic component, the anionic and cationic components being present in a proportion such that the composition has a zeta potential of at least about 20 millivolts. The hydrophobic phase is preferably a non-rosin sizing agent, including a reactive or nonreactive sizing agent, although mixtures of rosin and non-rosin sizing agents can form stable emulsions or dispersions using the coacervate of the invention. Methods of making and using the stable emulsions or dispersions are also disclosed, as is sized paper made using an emulsified or dispersed sizing agent stabilized with the coacervate stabilizing agent of the invention.
