With Control Means Responsive To A Sensed Condition Patents (Class 110/185)
  • Patent number: 4350100
Abstract: An air infiltration and mixing device for introducing cool air into a duct, such as an exhaust duct from a power generation boiler, carrying a gas at an elevated temperature comprising a first duct carrying the gas at an elevated temperature and a plurality of further ducts, of significantly smaller cross sectional area than the first duct, extending into the first duct through a side wall thereof in a direction transversely of the longitudinal axis of the first duct. Each further duct having an aperture at its end within the first duct and facing in a downstream direction, the other end of each of the further ducts having an opening adapted to communicate with a source of cool air.

  • Patent number: 4309194
Abstract: Method and apparatus for removing ash formed within, and accumulated at the lower portion of, a fluidized bed coal gasification reactor vessel. A supplemental fluidizing gas, at a temperature substantially less than the average fluidized bed combustion operating temperature, is injected into the vessel and upwardly through the ash so as to form a discrete thermal interface region between the fluidized bed and the ash. The elevation of the interface region, which rises with ash accumulation, is monitored by a thermocouple and interrelated with a motor controlled outlet valve. When the interface rises above the temperature indicator, the valve opens to allow removal of some of the ash, and the valve is closed, or positioned at a minimum setting, when the interface drops to an elevation below that of the thermocouple.

  • Patent number: 4294682
Abstract: A data acquisition system for a hot metal handling operation uses optical transmission of data from a plurality of hot-metal stations to a control computer. Preferably the computer transmits control instructions to operators via the optical link. In an aluminium pot-line arrangement the mobile transceiver may be mounted on the service crane.

  • Patent number: 4199549
Abstract: The specification discloses and describes a method and means of operating an incinerator whereby the concentration of evaporated solvent or other combustible materials delivered to an incinerator is controlled as a reflection of the temperature of the gas stream made up of products of combustion exhausted from the incinerator. By maintaining the fuel input to the incinerator constant and also maintaining the temperature of the stream of gases entering the incinerator constant, the variation of the temperature of the stream of products of combustion emitted from the incinerator with respect to a standard value reflects the variation in the concentration of evaporated solvents or other combustibles in the stream of gases supplied to the incinerator.
