    Abstract: A coke oven buckstay moving device and method which can be used to quickly, reliably, and smoothly repair buckstays compared to conventional methods and devices. The coke oven buckstay moving means includes a main car, a subcar, a frame, and securing means. The main car is used when repairing pillered buckstays that support oven walls of the coke oven, and moves on a coke side platform or a machine side platform. The subcar is placed on the main car, and can freely move forward and backward in a direction of a lengthwise direction of the coke oven. The frame is provided in a standing manner on the subcar. The securing members are mounted to the frame and are used to grasp and secure the buckstays. According to the method, a damaged portion of the buckstay is secured to the subcar, cut, and then removed. Reversing the steps, a replacement buckstay is secured to the subcar, moved into position, and welded into place. The subcar is detached, and the oven repaired.

A hollow space is formed between the furnace wall and the refractory ceramic plates spaced parallel apart from the furnace wall. Joints are formed between boundary regions of the refractory ceramic plates on main surfaces thereof, facing the furnace wall. The anchors lie in the joints, with free ends embedded in a heat-resistant filling. A heat-resistant, deformable compensating layer is provided in the joint area between adjacent plates.

The C-shaped member has a pair of generally upwardly and inwardly projecting engagement flanges which provide interconnection with the base member. The base member has a pair of generally downwardly and inwardly projecting base flanges which provide support for refractory material. In another embodiment, interengagement between the C-shaped member and the base member may be further secured by conventional mechanical fastening apparatus and methods. A method of employing the above-described device and a method for using multiple supporting devices with one or more structural members are also disclosed.

    Abstract: A refractory tile for a suspended wall of a glass furnace includes upper and lower horizontal faces having respective raised and depressed tongue and groove portions. The tile is adapted to be laid in overlapping or bonded courses such that the tongue and groove portions of a tile overlap and matingly engage the tongue and groove portions of two tiles in a subjacent course of tiles. Each tile also includes vertical side edges having mating ridges and grooves. Each of the tiles further includes a neck portion outwardly extending from a cold face edge thereof. The neck portion defines open spaces between adjacent tiles for insertion of insulation batts therein. The horizontal faces of the tiles also have slots formed therein for engagement with one of the hanger members. The slots have one of a transverse T-portion or a recessed portion formed therein and spaced inwardly from the cold face of the tile which are adapted to engage the hangers.

The suspended nose construction according to this invention provides for removal and replacement of a small number of refractories in the nose without disturbing the major portion of the nose construction.

Modules with offset stepped side profiles are disclosed, arranged to provide for ready removal of a single module without disturbing adjacent modules.     Abstract: A flame injection throat for a furnace incorporates a furnace structure formed with a flame injection throat opening lined by at least one ring of refractory tiles the adjacent edge portions of the outer faces of selected adjacent tiles are formed with aligned undercut grooves. Pins having enlarged ends are attached to the furnace structure within the throat opening and project into the groove. Locking members fitted into the grooves engage simultaneously the undercut portions of the grooves in the tiles and the enlarged ends of the pins lying within the grooves whereby to hold the tiles to the pins. Each locking member is a block of heat-resisting metal presenting two limbs arranged to straddle a pin projecting into the groove.
