    Abstract: A heat shield for shielding the solenoid of an engine starter from heat generated by an internal combustion engine. The shield is formed of metal and has a front pair of deflectable spring arms and a rear pair of deflectable spring arms for securing the heat shield to a solenoid of an engine starter. The arms have arcuate portions that are adapted to engage the case of the solenoid and the arms are deflected apart when the shield is assembled to the solenoid. The arms then spring back toward each other to tightly grip the solenoid. The front pair of deflectable spring arms are equipped with ribs extending from the arcuate portions and bending around one end of the solenoid to prevent axial movement of the heat shield relative to the solenoid. The heat shield has a collar to engage another end of the solenoid and prevent axial movement of the heat shield relative to the solenoid. The heat shield has a spring finger that prevents the shield from moving beyond a proper assembled position.

    Abstract: The emission control system of the present invention removes the small amounts of polluting gases released from various parts of the automobile. These polluting gases are released from, for example, fuel oozing out from connections of the pipes in the fuel system, lubricating oil oozing out from engine body, and solvents and adhesives remaining in the interior and exterior parts of the automobile. In the emission control system of the present invention, collectors and suction pipes are provided. The collectors are disposed at the parts of the automobile from where the polluting gases are released in such a manner that the collectors enclose these parts. The suction pipes connect the respective collectors to an intake nose of an air cleaner disposed in an intake air passage of the engine. Therefore, the polluting gases released from various parts of the automobile are drawn into the engine through the respective suction pipes before they diffuse into the atmosphere, and are burned in the engine.

    Abstract: An inexpensive and disposable oil pan used for the collection and disposal of used motor oil drained from an automobile's crankcase. The preferred oil pan is formed from a cut-out of lightweight corrugated paperboard and contains an absorbent filler material inside. Such absorbent filler material contains petrophilic micro-organisms which enable it to absorb the oil drained from the crankcase of a car and prevent it from leaching back out into the environment. When the oil comes in contact with the petrophilic micro-organisms in the filler material, those petrophilic micro-organisms act upon the oil and begin a bio-remediation process whereby the danger represented by the hydrocarbons in the oil is reduced to a level which is considered acceptable by most general waste facilities. Accordingly, the entire oil pan, with filler material and used oil contained inside, may be simply disposed of along with one's general supply of trash.

    Abstract: An air induction system for an internal combustion engine is disclosed. The system includes a housing having a closed end, walls extending from the housing end, and an open end. The open end has a flanged perimeter with a hollow cross section in a portion thereof. The system also may include integral stiffening ribs extending along portions of the walls and the closed end. The stiffening ribs having hollow base portions which operate to minimize depressions caused by the ribs on the sides of the walls opposite the ribs. The hollow base portions allow an increase in rib height and, as such, rib stiffness over typical solid ribs. The hollow cross section perimeter and enlarged stiffener ribs operate to define the area moment of inertia of the housing member.

    Abstract: The present invention involves a self-cleaning air filter assembly for an internal combustion engine. An air stream is directed into an air filter housing and a portion of the air stream is filtered by an air filter assembly which may include one or more filter media and the remaining portion of the air stream is discharged from the air filter housing through an exit opening. Particulates contained within the excess air are discharged along with the excess air through the exit openings and are not deposited on the air filter. Vibration of the air filter due to operation of the engine also loosens previously filtered particulates which are also discharged through the exit openings with the excess air. The cleaned air which is passed through the air filter is used in the combustion process.

When the engine is started, a drawing in force generated by vacuum in the engine makes the upper and lower magnets move together to break the seal in the opening formed in a partition board that separates the two chambers.

The wire net of electric resistance metal for heating the main filter is fastened on one surface of the main filter for receiving the exhaust. A reinforcing net-like plate of a heat resistant metal is fastened on the other surface of the main filter for releasing the exhaust.
