  • Patent number: 6769408
Abstract: A holding down plate for fastening a fuel injector in a location orifice of a cylinder head of a mixture-compressing internal combustion engine includes on one end a fastening bore, which is penetrated by a fastening element which fastens the holding down plate to the cylinder head, and the opposite end of the holding down plate has a location orifice for receiving a fuel injector, the location orifice being divided by an insertion recess and delimited by a first and a second fork end, which exert a force on the fuel injector thereby pressing the fuel injector against a pressure shoulder located in the location orifice of the cylinder head. The first and the second fork end are bent in a shape that is undulated in cross-section and is oriented toward the fuel injector, a radius of the undulated bending each forming a support area.

  • Patent number: 6535802
Abstract: A vehicle data storage system in communication with a diagnostic unit provides a “quick fault” screen which summarizes event data stored within a storage device of the vehicle data storage system. The “quick fault” screen displays a plurality of keys organized in matrix format to display an overview of fault conditions through animation and/or coloring of each key in response to the event data stored within the storage device. By selecting any animated/colored key, a more detailed representation of the event data stored in the storage device for the particular fault condition is presented. The detailed subsystem screen presents the event data recorded within the storage device in a graphical and/or tabulation format showing associate subsytem parameters over time.

Abstract: A a clip for mounting an elongated fuel rail with respect to an internal combustion engine. The fuel rail extends along a longitudinal axis and includes a mounting portion at an intermediate positon along the longitudinal axis, and the internal combustion engine includes a recess. The clip comprises a first portion adapted to engage the fuel rail, and a second portion adapted to be slidably received in the recess along a generally transverse axis with respect to the longitudinal axis. The first portion partially surrounds the longitudinal axis and is adapted to engage the mounting portion so as to prevent relative displacement along the longitudinal axis. The second portion is adapted to be releasably retained with respect to the recess.

  • Patent number: 6439203
Abstract: A seal arrangement having a bore within which a component is to be received, in use, the seal arrangement comprising a seal member formed from a resilient material, the seal member having an inner periphery and an outer periphery and being provided with a fracture to define two ends of the seal member. When in a relaxed condition, the inner periphery of the seal member has a smaller diameter than the diameter of the component such that, when the component is received through the bore of the seal arrangement, the two ends of the seal member are caused to part, the resilience of the seal member causing the inner periphery of the seal member to form a substantially fluid tight seal with the component. The seal arrangement further comprises a support member upon which the seal member is mounted, the support member being of generally annular form and having inner and outer peripheries, wherein the inner periphery of the support member is of generally circular form except for a region of irregularity.

  • Patent number: 4307693
Abstract: A fuel injection installation for internal combustion engines having a plurality of injection valves for supplying fuel to the engine. Each injection valve is sealed to fuel distributing line and to either the intake manifold of the engine, or to the cylinder head of the engine, by at least one O-ring, each O-ring being braced only in the radial direction. Each injection valve is fixed in an axial direction on the fuel distributing line by means of a fastening plate yielding in the radial direction and embodied as bracket-like, which is insertable through appropriately shaped recesses in each insertion nipple on the fuel distributing line and can be snapped into an annular groove of each injection valve. As a result, there is assured not only a secure connection between the fuel distributing line and the injection valves which compensates for axial clearances required for manufacture, but also rapid mounting or dismounting of the fuel injection installation.

  • Patent number: 4289104
Abstract: An air-fuel mixture supplying device for internal combustion engines, in which sonic nozzles are disposed facing each other in such a manner that their center lines lie in the same horizontal and vertical planes so that the fuel ejected from the nozzle is pulverized and mixed with bleed air ejected from the opposing nozzle in optimum condition. During intermittent ejection of fuel, two injector valves inject fuel alternately so that the fuel particles ejected from the opposing nozzles do not collide with each other but only strike against and mix with the bleed air. This eliminates the possibility of fuel particles becoming agglomerated and produces desirable air-fuel mixtures.

  • Patent number: 4257376
Abstract: A flow regulating device for use in a single-point control electronic fuel injection system. The flow regulating device receives a discrete, pressurized fuel pulse or charge from a fuel injector and extends its time duration over the charge cycle period to approximate a continuous flow. The extended fuel charge is provided to an atomizer for mixture with air preparatory to being drawn into an engine intake manifold. In one embodiment of the invention, the flow regulating device includes a constant pressure valve together with a restricted flow passage. The pressure setting of the valve is below the pressure at which the discrete fuel charge is emitted from the injector, and the restricted passage has an orifice dimension smaller than that of the injector nozzle. In another embodiment of the invention, the flow regulating device takes the form of a pair of parallel connected constant pressure valves together with restricted flow passages.

  • Patent number: 4235210
Abstract: In a fuel supply apparatus for an internal combustion engine, a fuel discharging apparatus includes a fuel discharge port opened in an air intake conduit and a fuel valve for injecting a controlled quantity of fuel into the air intake passage through the discharge port. An annular fuel whirling chamber is formed around the fuel valve to receive fuel flow in a tangential direction to cause the fuel flow to whirl within the annular chamber. On the other hand, an annular recess is formed in a passage communicating the discharge port and the fuel valve with each other to forcively feed air to the fuel flowing through the passage. The fuel is thus intensively mixed with air and can be easily atomized upon being injected into the air intake passage through the discharge orifice.
