  • Patent number: 10082050
Abstract: An anti-rotation guide for a lifter in an overhead valve valvetrain. The anti-rotation guide includes a plug having two lobes connected through a neck region. A first lobe of the plug is held within a bore in the lifter. The bore forms an opening at the edge of the lifter through which the neck of the plug emerges. The bore in the lifter accommodates a first lobe of the plug that is wider than the opening in the edge of the lifter, whereby the plug is shaped to prevent its slipping from the lifter through the opening. The lifter reciprocates in a first bore in the cylinder head. The second lobe of the plug extends outward from the lifter into a second bore formed in the cylinder head and adjoining the first bore. The second lobe reciprocates in the second bore and limits rotation of the lifter.

Abstract: There is disclosed a method for cylinder lubrication of large diesel engines, such as marine engines. Injection of lubricating oil is performed via a number of injection units that correspond to a multiple of the cylinder number in the engine. There is desired an efficient distribution of the lubricating oil, not only across the periphery of the cylinder, but also across the travel of the piston in the cylinder in order thereby to reduce the consumption of lubricating oil. This is achieved in that lubricating oil is supplied by a combination of injection of a first part of the lubricating oil directly on a ring area of the cylinder wall before the passage of the piston and an injection of a second part of the lubricating oil directly onto the piston during its passage.

Abstract: A rocker arm for a tappet pushrod valve train, which has a contact surface for a gas exchange valve on an underside at one end and a first bore in which a hydraulic lash adjusting element is arranged at another end. A second bore extends transverse through the rocker arm, between the ends. From the second bore, a passage leads to the first bore. A venting passage extends from a bottom of the bore at the another end and has an outlet aligned with the primary passage. A secondary passage branches from the venting passage and has an opening that extends to an upper side of the rocker arm and is situated in a longitudinal channel. The channel extends along the upper side and into a region on the one end. From the region, the hydraulic medium can be routed through an end passage to the contact surface.

Abstract: A cylinder head including a dam defining a reservoir surrounding the periphery of the fuel pump tappet/roller follower mounting hole is provided. The cylinder head includes a tappet/roller follower mounted in the tappet/roller follower mounting hole and in communication with a cam and a fuel pump. The fuel pump is located on the high side of the head and oil drainage occurs in a direction away from the mounting hole. The dam and reservoir are configured to retain lubricant in the mounting hole and the sliding interface between the mounting hole and the tappet/roller follower. The dam and reservoir are configured to retain a minimum level of oil in the mounting hole when the head is in vehicle position. A method is provided for retaining lubrication in the tappet/roller follower hole by forming a dam defining a reservoir in the head and passively providing lubricant to the tappet/roller follower hole.

  • Patent number: 8307793
Abstract: An internal combustion engine comprises at least two intake valves per cylinder, each of them provided with respective spring return means which push the valve towards a closed position. The intake valves of each cylinder are controlled by a single cam of an engine camshaft, through a single tappet actuated by said cam and through a hydraulic system. The hydraulic system comprises a master cylinder having a piston positively connected to said tappet and two hydraulic actuators respectively associated to the two intake valves and which are both hydraulically connected to a common pressure chamber of said master cylinder. The return spring means associated to the intake valves of one and the same engine cylinder have predetermined loadS and/or rigidities which are different from each other, in such a way that said intake valves have different lift profiles, so as to cause a swirl motion of the air fed into the engine cylinder, which allows to improve the air-fuel mixing.

Abstract: A four-cycle engine with an enclosed oil reservoir for mounting on a power tool is provided. An oil pump driven by a camshaft, which mates by a cam gear with crank gear that is driven by a crank shaft, inhales the oil from the oil reservoir to lubricate the engine parts. A circular arc wall surrounds around web of the crankshaft with a slight distance from the web. A scroll-shaped wall has gradually increased distance from the circular arc wall to the direction of rotation of the web and has partial overlap with the circular arc wall. In case of stock of engine oriented power take off side up or down, oil is prevented to flow from oil reservoir to combustion chamber by a weir which is provided between the circular wall and the scrolled wall. The check valve splashes breathing missed oil from the crankshaft to the breather room and causes the oil to supply lubricant to lubricate the engine parts.
