Abstract: A gasket provided in a gasket groove, receives the force that acts in the direction in which two pressure-adjusting oil passages are aligned in line, and the magnitude and direction of this force change as the difference between the hydraulic pressures in the pressure-adjusting oil passages varies. However, because the opening of a hydraulic oil supply passage is located on an imaginary line extending through between the openings of the two pressure-adjusting oil passages, pressure is applied from the hydraulic oil supply passage to the gasket, whereby constant and large frictional force occurs between the gasket and the side wall of the gasket groove. Thus, the gasket is firmly retained in the gasket groove, whereby the vibration of the gasket is suppressed.

Accordingly, the oil is supplied all over an Oldham projection so that it is possible to prevent the frictional wearing of the Oldham projection disposed inside the Oldham coupling.

Abstract: To provide an oil passage structure for an engine in which a tensioner arm is in sliding-contact with a cam chain for speed-reducing a rotational power of a crankshaft by half and transmitting the resultant power to camshafts for driving an intake valve and an exhaust valve, and a screw-type lifter having a lifter rod with its one end being in contact with the tensioner arm is provided in a cylinder head, wherein the oil passage structure is intended to certainly feed oil to the screw type lifter while preventing the reduction in pressure of oil fed to the cylinder head without increasing the discharge pressure of an oil pump. An oil passage to which oil is fed from an oil pump is formed so as to extend around a cylinder head, and the downstream end of the oil passage is in communication with a screw type lifter.

Abstract: In an oil flow control valve (OCV) according to the present invention, a first volume varying chamber is adapted to communicate with a second volume varying chamber through a second plunger breathing path, and the second volume varying chamber is adapted to communicate with a first breathing hole through an intra-plunger breathing path, an intra-shaft breathing path, and a third volume varying chamber. That is, the breathing path to the second volume varying chamber is long and the volume thereof is large, and the breathing path to the first volume varying chamber is still longer and larger in its volume. Consequently, the amount of foreign matters getting into the first and second volume varying chambers can be decreased and therefore it is possible to prevent the occurrence of an operation defect of the OCV.

Abstract: A lubrication system for an internal combustion engine having a pressure increasing valve and a pressure regulator valve to optimize oil flow through an engine to increase engine efficiency. The lubrication system includes an engine driven oil pump connected to supply pressurized oil through a main oil feed to a main bearing gallery, a cam gallery, a cam phaser and switching valve lifters. The pressure increasing valve connected between the main bearing gallery and the cam gallery restricts oil flow to the cam gallery to raise oil pressure supplied to the cam phaser. The pressure regulator valve connected between the pressure increasing valve and the cam gallery to control oil pressure supplied to the switching lifters for cylinder deactivation or stepping valve train operation. The optimization of oil flow allows the engine to use a smaller oil pump and thereby increase engine efficiency while providing for actuation of the cam phaser or the switching lifters over the full engine speed range.

Abstract: A plurality of oil passages are formed in a shaft body of a rocker shaft, which partially constitutes a valve drive system of an internal combustion engine. A bolt hole is formed in the shaft body in such a manner as to substantially perpendicularly intersect the axis of the shaft body. A bush is fitted into the bolt hole in such a manner as to prevent the bolt hole from establishing communication between the plurality of oil passages. A bolt is fastened through the bush to thereby fix the rocker shaft on a cylinder head. This structure improves the support rigidity of the rocker shaft and the dynamic characteristics of the valve drive system, and reduces the number of components and the number of working man-hours.

Abstract: An internal combustion engine is provided with at least two cylinder banks whose cylinder heads are sealed by cylinder head covers. To ventilate the crankcase from the blow-by gases, ventilation lines are connected to the cylinder head covers and communicate with a negative pressure source, e.g., an intake pipe. The inside of the cylinder head cover is provided with structure for pre-separating the oil from the blow-by gases. An oil separation chamber is equipped with an inlet and an outlet opening, each as a part of the crankcase ventilation in the cylinder head covers. The oil separation chambers communicate with the respective camshaft space through their inlet openings. This arrangement ensures reliable crankcase ventilation in which a portion of the oil carried along by the blow-by gases can already be separated in the cylinder head cover and returned to the camshaft spaces.
