  • Patent number: 8051820
Abstract: A gasket provided in a gasket groove, receives the force that acts in the direction in which two pressure-adjusting oil passages are aligned in line, and the magnitude and direction of this force change as the difference between the hydraulic pressures in the pressure-adjusting oil passages varies. However, because the opening of a hydraulic oil supply passage is located on an imaginary line extending through between the openings of the two pressure-adjusting oil passages, pressure is applied from the hydraulic oil supply passage to the gasket, whereby constant and large frictional force occurs between the gasket and the side wall of the gasket groove. Thus, the gasket is firmly retained in the gasket groove, whereby the vibration of the gasket is suppressed.

Abstract: An improved rocker arm cover assembly having an enclosed rocker arm chamber housing and a generally L-shaped bracket for mounting multiple coils to an exterior vertical side wall of the housing, so that the coils are exposed and laterally displaced from the housing. The bottom of the housing includes special seal and flange members to permit sealing mounting to the engine head so that the rocker arm chamber is isolated as a “wet” enclosure from the coil bracket assembly. The housing is mounted directly to the head via a plurality of through bolts. A fully isolated, dual function, oil fill/PCV valve conduit is provided through the top of the housing to permit adding lubrication oil or permitting exhaust of crankcase vapors without contaminating the coils, and permitting independent servicing of the coils. Several variations of coils and coil mounting brackets are disclosed.

Abstract: A cylinder head cover covers a cylinder head of an internal combustion engine. The engine has a variable valve actuation mechanism and a control valve for controlling supply and drainage of hydraulic oil to and from the variable valve actuation mechanism. The cylinder head cover includes a cover main body fixed to the cylinder head and a valve case to which the control valve is attached. The valve case is caused to contact a side of the cover main body that corresponds to the cylinder head. Therefore, the cylinder head cover maintains a firm attachment of the valve case to the cylinder head.

Abstract: A valve cover assembly for sealed engagement with a cylinder block includes a cover portion, a rail and a molded-in-place elastomeric bridge molded to the cover portion and the rail maintaining the cover portion and the rail in spaced relation to one another. The rail has an outwardly extending mounting flange providing a hard mounting bottom surface that is coplanar with the rail sealing surface. A seal depends from the sealing surface of the rail when in an uninstalled, uncompressed state for compression against the cylinder block upon the sealing surface and the hard mounting bottom surface being brought into engagement with the cylinder block, thereby establishing fluid-tight seal between the valve cover assembly and the cylinder block.
