Patent number: 6948488Abstract: An arrow rest comprises an arrow rest support arm pivotally mounted to the riser of a bow. The support arm is coupled to a cable guide of the bow through linkage that causes the support arm to rise relative to the riser of the bow as the cable is drawn to launch an arrow. As the cable is released to launch an arrow, the arrow rest drops to allow the fletching to pass the arrow rest without contact. In addition, as the arrow rest moves from a first resting position to a second pre-launch position and back again, a clamping mechanism grasps the shaft of the arrow when the support arm is in the resting position. As the support arm moves to the pre-launch position, the clamping mechanism releases the shaft of the arrow so that the arrow can be freely launched from the support arm without interference from the clamping mechanism.Type: GrantFiled: January 26, 2004Date of Patent: September 27, 2005Inventor: Abbas Ben Afshari

Patent number: 6688296Abstract: An arrow rest for an archery bow includes a shuttle, a cradle and a bow-connecting member. The shuttle, which supports an arrow, is mechanically and magnetically coupled to the cradle. The mechanical coupling enables the shuttle to move through a substantially planar region. The magnetic coupling imparts resilience to the shuttle. The arrow rest is advantageously compliant and resilient in vertical and horizontal directions (i.e., in any direction that is “in-plane” with respect to the substantially planar region in which the shuttle moves). Since resilience is provided by magnetic interaction, wherein the force of attraction decreases with increasing distance, arrow rests in accordance with the illustrative embodiment are advantageously configured to exhibit “fall-away” motion.Type: GrantFiled: August 21, 2002Date of Patent: February 10, 2004Inventor: Dennis S. Patent number: 6688297Abstract: An improved archery arrow rest that holds an arrow in a ready-to-fire position using a biasing mechanism with magnetic attraction on communicating force to the components while not being in direct contact. When the arrow is released by the archer, the flexing of the arrow creates a force on the arrow support which is communicated to a rotating pivot providing enough force to break the magnetic attraction between the a pivot mounted leaf member and a magnet, thus allowing a biasing spring or a secondary magnet to rotate the arrow support down and out of the way of the arrow shaft and fletching or vanes attached thereto. By fine-tuning the gap between the magnet and the leaf member, the force of rearward bias and reaction time of the device can be cut down to react to even the fastest of bows.Type: GrantFiled: October 1, 2002Date of Patent: February 10, 2004Inventor: Lawrence B. Patent number: 6595880Abstract: The present invention relates to an archery arrow with a fluted or crimped shaft, which can be made lighter and hence provide greater velocity than a standard, non-fluted arrow. In a second aspect, the present invention includes a fluted arrow wherein the fluting includes grooves that spiral along the length of the shaft, allowing spin to be imparted to the arrow. Spinning the arrow about its shaft will give it increased stability. In another aspect, the present invention includes an arrow rest for the fluted arrow, which is suitably arranged to impart spin to the arrow and/or to keep the arrow from falling off the arrow rest.Type: GrantFiled: July 20, 2001Date of Patent: July 22, 2003Inventor: Phillip R. Patent number: 6561174Abstract: An arrow rest for an archery bow includes a mounting bracket for mounting to the riser of a bow, a shaft rotatably attached to the mounting bracket, a pair of arms configured for supporting the shaft of an arrow attached to the shaft, and a support member attached to said shaft for rotation therewith. A first magnet is attached to the mounting bracket and as second magnet is attached to the support member. The magnets are oriented to be attracted to one another to form a magnetic spring between the mounting bracket and the support member. The magnet spring holds the pair of arms in a first position for launching of an arrow from the bow but allow pivotal rotation of the arms upon launching of the arrow so that the arrow rest creates minimal drag on the shaft of the shaft of the arrow.Type: GrantFiled: January 29, 2001Date of Patent: May 13, 2003Inventor: Abbas Ben Afshari
