    Abstract: A cutting platform for supporting a cutter adjacent a concrete pad and a method of making clean cuts into the pad is disclosed. The platform includes a base having an upper surface positioned so that it is level with an upper surface of the pad. The cutter is received on the base's upper surface and is rollable onto the pad's upper surface. One or more support legs extend downwardly from a lower surface of the base and are adjustable in length. At least one arm extends outwardly from the base and rests on the pad's upper surface. A replaceable insert is received in a recess in the first end of the base adjacent the pad. The cutter's blade is actuated and cuts initially into the insert. As the cutter rolls from the base onto the pad, a clean cut is made into the side and upper surface of the pad.

    Abstract: A handheld and readily maneuverable apparatus for grinding floor surfaces and/or cutting grooves in a floor formed of a hard material such as concrete, stone or the like is disclosed. The apparatus includes an elongated tube having a motor mounted at its upper end and a special rotatable abrasive head at its lower end. Rotation of the motor is coupled to the rotatable abrasive head via a flexible shaft that extends longitudinally through the elongated tube. In one form of the invention, the abrasive head includes a grinding disk that is oriented generally horizontally relative to the floor when the apparatus is in its operating orientation, and the operator can manually maneuver the apparatus so as to grind the floor surface.

    Abstract: A shaft carries helically wound support surfaces for retaining cutter segments, such as diamond cutters, in a helical path. Oppositely wound helices extend continuously from the center to a limit position on each side of the cutter head. Each of the support surfaces is disposed in a direction substantially perpendicular to an extended surface to be cut or planed so as to provide a cut in the extended surface with a minimal force and without any side skipping of the cutter segments. Double wound helices provide a backup segment in the same plane and a natural balancing effect. Each of the helices in each double wound helix is uniformly spaced from the other double wound helix and is terminated at the same position at the center and at the limit position as the other helix but may be angularly displaced from the other helix by an angle of 90.degree. at the center and 180.degree. at the limit position. The cutter segments may be disposed on the helices in a balanced relationship.

    Abstract: An apparatus for cutting material or grooving concrete has a housing including a curved top for partially accommodating one or more circular saw blades. The housing has a bottom having an opening permitting partial protrusion of the saw blade into cutting engagement with the material or concrete to be cut or grooved. For manual propulsion of the housing along such material or concrete, a curved handle is located on the housing top and has identically dimensioned first and second handle portions extending in parallel to the partially accommodated and protruding saw blade or blades in opposite directions from a central location on the housing top situated opposite the mentioned bottom. The partially accommodated and protruding saw blade is rotated and the housing including the mentioned bottom is maintained in spaced relationship to the material to be cut or concrete to be grooved during operation of the saw blade or blades.

    Abstract: A step groover apparatus has a housing to which a direct drive means is attached. The drive means has a rotatable shaft extending into the interior of the housing and on which a plurality of grooving blades are fixed in space relationship. The blades extend through an opening in a lower portion of the housing. The housing has front and rear skids on which the apparatus slides as it moves along the top of the step. The skids are vertically adjustable to vary the depth of the groove to be cut in the step. A vertically and horizontally adjustable face guide is adapted to be forced against the face of the step so that the grooves will be parallel to the step face. A radially extending handle is attached to the housing so that the rear skid may be pressed downward against the top of the step. A laterally extending handle is attached to the housing so that the front skid and the face guide may be simultaneously pressed against the top and face of the step, respectively.
