Patent number: 5813395Abstract: The invention provides a device for clasp the rims of openings in shaped bodies made of glass ceramic, glass or ceramic, especially openings for the passage of atmospheric gas burners on cooking hobs or stovetops, from mechanical damage and for preventing soiling and damage to arrangements situated underneath the shaped body owing to the ingress of liquids through the openings in the shaped body. The clasp reaches over the rim of the respective opening and extends onto both the top and bottom sides of the shaped body. A sealing and/or heat-insulating material is advantageously inserted between the shaped body and the clasp.Type: GrantFiled: November 29, 1995Date of Patent: September 29, 1998Assignee: Schott GlaswerkeInventors: Martin Taplan, Stefan Hubert, Boris Marx, Thomas Heisner

Patent number: 5628302Abstract: A burner assembly is provided that includes a burner pan having a peripheral portion adapted to engage a range top at the periphery of a burner opening and a sealed burner in central portion of the burner pan. A resilient elastic seal straddles the peripheral portion of the burner pan so as to be disposed between the burner pan and the range top and between the burner pan and the burner grate. The elastic seal retains the burner grate in position slightly above the range top and provides a seal to close the burner opening.Type: GrantFiled: June 21, 1995Date of Patent: May 13, 1997Assignee: Maytag CorporationInventors: Steven M. Schatz, Stanley H. Beach

Patent number: 5494027Abstract: Simmer performance in gas ranges is improved by providing a burner grate with a flame impingement ring centered over the gas burner. The burner grate includes a base and a plurality of fingers attached to the base. The flame impingement ring is attached to all or some of the fingers. The flame impingement ring is sized so that simmer flames from the gas burner will impinge thereon. Thus, the flames are directed away from direct impingement on the cooking utensil, and some heat from the flames is absorbed by the grate. The flame impingement ring can have many cross-sectional configurations including curved, circular, oval or straight.Type: GrantFiled: December 30, 1994Date of Patent: February 27, 1996Assignee: General Electric CompanyInventor: James R. Patent number: 5041720Abstract: A heat deflector is disclosed for use on electric stove heating elements. The deflector includes a heat shield and a support/spacer member to support the cooking utensil in a level position in relation to the electric heating element. The shield serves to block heat rising from the electric coil and prevent overheating of the cooking utensil handle. The invention is suitable for use on virtually all electric stoves regardless of the size or shape of their heating elements.Type: GrantFiled: July 10, 1990Date of Patent: August 20, 1991Inventor: Frank Esposito

Patent number: 5002039Abstract: A stove-top safety grate flame deflector is disclosed for gas stove burner grates. The deflector includes generally a plate-like member and a downwardly extending protective skirt for preventing flames or heat from heating a pot handle beyond what can be tolerated by hand touch. The deflector and protective skirt are positioned and proportioned to permit universal mounting capability on virtually any gas stove safety grate. The deflector and protective skirt can also be formed integrally with a stove-top grate.Type: GrantFiled: April 5, 1990Date of Patent: March 26, 1991Inventor: Frank Esposito

Patent number: 4607613Abstract: The invention is a unitary solid interface adapter for placement at the bottom of a wok. The adapter is made from a thermally conductive material and has an exterior shape substantially in the nature of a frustum of a cone. The upper surface of the adapter is concave in the shape of a sector of a sphere such that a traditional wok will nest therein with approximately equal contact over the entire interface therebetween. The bottom surface of the adapter is substantially flat for maintaining a solid stable perch on either electrical stove elements or gas range lattice support structures. The bottom of the adapter may be provided with anti-slip protrusions which prevent the adapter from sliding on the top of the range element. The side of the adapter is angled outward in a conical fashion such that the heat generated by a smaller area of element at the bottom surface of the adapter may be delivered to a greater area of the wok surface for maximum usable cooking area.Type: GrantFiled: July 19, 1984Date of Patent: August 26, 1986Inventor: George Toldi

Patent number: 4593677Abstract: A range grate and retaining clip assembly for detachable engagement over the burner well of a range top provided with a pair of openings spaced on opposite sides of the burner well, the grate including a pair of linearly disposed arms, each arm being provided at its terminal end with a pair of downwardly directed projections for insertion through a corresponding opening, the projections of one arm having a pair of inwardly directed flanges, whereby such projections may be engaged by a channel-shaped portion carried by the clip, the latter being formed of spring metal and engageable against the upper surface of the range top in the inner edge surface of the corresponding opening to permit the grate to be shifted laterally towards the opposite opening for insertion of the other projections therethrough.Type: GrantFiled: July 29, 1985Date of Patent: June 10, 1986Assignee: Magic ChefInventor: Issac P. Sargunam

Patent number: 4527539Abstract: A gas hotplate for use in a gas cooker comprising a gas burner (1) having a gas supply (6) and a burner head (9) comprising therein at least three spaced groups of apertures (10) at which apertures (10) gas is burnt, such that between the groups of apertures (10) gaps are provided around the burner head (9) where the intensity of the flame is reduced and a pan support (3) comprising at least three members (15), but not more members (15) than there are groups of apertures (10). The members (15) extend radially towards the center of the burner head (9) and can be aligned with the gaps between the groups of apertures (10). The gas hotplate further comprises means whereby the pan support (3) can be fixed in position relative to the burner head (9) with its support members (15) in alignment with the gaps between the groups of apertures (10) therein.Type: GrantFiled: July 25, 1983Date of Patent: July 9, 1985Assignee: Burco-Dean LimitedInventor: Arthur S. Kay

Patent number: 4154218Abstract: A leveling device enables adjustable positioning of cooking pans on stove burners where the stove is offset from the horizontal. The device includes first and second annular members that are fitted together for relative rotation on the stove surface. The first annular member includes a recess and first surface that receives a projection and second surface of the second annular member. The surfaces are planar and juxtaposed so that both members may be rotated freely. The surfaces are angularly inclined with respect to a support surface of the second member. By rotating the two annular members relative to one another and the stove framework, the upper member can be selectively adjusted to bring the support surface into a horizontal orientation. Handles are provided on the two members to facilitate relative rotation while a pan rests on the support surface.Type: GrantFiled: December 7, 1977Date of Patent: May 15, 1979Inventor: Alvin D. Hulet

Patent number: 4126120Abstract: Apparatus for distributing heat from a heat source relatively evenly over the bottom of a vessel to be heated is disclosed. A first annular element is provided which includes an upwardly concave dish-shaped annulus circumscribing a hollow center. A releasable connecting element of a first type is located on the underside of the first annular element. A second annular element includes an upwardly concave dish-shaped annulus which is larger than the annulus of the first annular element. A releasable connecting element of a second type complementary to the first type is located on the inner periphery of the annulus of the second annular element so that the elements can be locked together for use and disassembled for cleaning.Type: GrantFiled: August 19, 1977Date of Patent: November 21, 1978Inventor: Cedric D.
