  • Patent number: 5743248
Abstract: A portable, fused essentially waterproof campfire is presented. The campfire has a trapezoidal cross-section with kindling, a firestick and a fuse located near the bottom center of the trapezoid. The fuse runs from the firestick to the outside of the campfire. Surrounding the firestick and kindling are increasingly larger sizes of wood, ranging from one inch in diameter to approximately 5 inches in diameter at the top. The campfire, once constructed, is entirely surrounded by a clear combustible material such as shrink wrap and a handle is attached. The shrink wrap not only keeps the campfire in its trapezoidal shape, it also keeps water from penetrating. The campfire is highly portable and easily started even under damp conditions. One simply lights the fuse, which ignites the firestick and kindling and the rest of the fire.

Abstract: A Grill-Unit is described, preferably for charcoal burning, with a coal duct with a vertical U cross sectional form and lateral air vents, a grease trap tray inserted into the ducts' outer walls, with tapering guide walls rising upward from the ducts' outer walls to form a cover. The upper portion of the cover has vertical air trap walls, which form a grid conduit upon the base of which the grating is located. The main points are, that two parallel with one another extended coal ducts (3) are arranged at the bottom of the Grill-Unit, and that both coal ducts sit in between a vertical back wall (1) and a removable front wall (20) parallel to the vertical wall. By removing the front wall during operation of the unit, access to the inner portion of the unit is possible if desired, for example the grease trap tray (11) may be emptied, spices and sauces may be brought in, and as well the coals may be stirred about, since they are also layed out in the coal duct box-form, in a special design.

The free end of the secondary tube member is positioned in close proximity to the elongate tube burner such that the ignition of the elongate tube burner causes cross-ignition of the L-shaped tube burner when gas is supplied thereto.

Abstract: A device for concentrating and conserving a fuel source in a cooking appliance is provided. The cooking appliance has a fuel supporting surface, an appliance side wall about the fuel supporting surface and a cooking surface supported substantially between the side wall and above the fuel supporting surface. The cooking surface receives food items to be cooked. The device comprises a free-standing fuel concentrating apparatus supported solely upon the fuel supporting surface for selectively concentrating the fuel source beneath at least a portion of the cooking surface. The concentrating apparatus creates a plurality of fuel enclosures such that loading at least two of the fuel enclosures and the ignition and combustion of the fuel source within one of these loaded fuel enclosures saves ignition and combustion of the fuel source located within any adjacent fuel source area.

  • Patent number: 5590640
Abstract: A protective guard for an outdoor grill is provided, comprising a support strip and a plurality of protective spars. The support strip conforms to the outer perimeter of the grill's kettle, and is mounted onto the kettle, generally horizontal to the ground. The protective spars are connected to the support strip, and suspend downward from the support strip towards the ground, along the outer surface of the kettle. The apparatus provides a lightweight, removable barrier around the kettle, to prevent humans or household pets from coming into contact with the hot outer surface of the kettle. The apparatus is simple in design, with relatively few parts, and is easy to manufacture. The apparatus is also easy to assemble, and can be modified to fit any of a number of different sizes or shapes of barbecue grills, as an add-on accessory.

Abstract: A portable, charcoal-burning heater for out-of-door use comprises a body with a lid. Inside the body is a charcoal-supporting grill above a pull-out ash drawer and a cooking grill above the charcoal-supporting grill. Both grills rest on ledges that also provide structural support to preserve the shape of the body after prolonged, repeated use. Vents on the ends of the body and in the lid enable air to flow across the coals. Insulated handles for the lid and body, an insulated, recessed drawer and insulated feet prevent injury and damage from heat to the user or the surface on which the heater is placed.

  • Patent number: 5579680
Abstract: A smokeless grill suitable for use upon a conventional gas or electric range in which a lower base element is of shorter longitudinal dimension than a mating cover element which defines a transversely extending horizontal opening adapted to be positioned directly over a gas or electric heating element or burner. Heat emanating from the burner rises under convection as well as radiation to enter the opening and heat air enclosed by the cover. The heated air circulates in a continuous loop between the base element and the cover element to cook food supported upon a grill element disposed therebetween, the configuration of the grill allowing the heated air to pass both above and below the grill. Because no air is introduced into the device, the food cooks essentially without burning or smoking, and all combustion occurs externally of the interconnected base element and cover element.

  • Patent number: 5566607
Abstract: A grease deflector assembly for use with a grill for cooking food, which grease deflector assembly includes an elongated slat of a noncombustible material for each row of heating elements of the grill. The length of each of the slats is at least equal to that of the corresponding row of heating elements and each slat extends downward at an angle from substantially the underside of a support element for the food to a position adjacent and spaced from at least the corresponding row of heating elements. Each slat also overlies the corresponding row of heating elements to prevent drippings from the food from touching the row of heating elements while providing an unobstructed path for radiant energy from the heating element to the food. The invention is usable with all types of grills including charcoal grills, gas grills and electric grills.
