Abstract: A suture clamp comprising a plurality of elements positioned together in a row, each element of the plurality of elements having a lower portion separated from an upper portion by a flexible neck, each element of the plurality of elements including a slot having an outwardly facing opening, the slots from the plurality of elements configured to accept a suture element through the row of elements and secure the suture element. A method of clamping a suture, including applying a biasing force to at least one element into the first position to provide access to the outwardly facing opening of the slot, passing the suture through a tissue layer, receiving the suture into the slot through the outward facing opening, and removing the biasing force to form a tortuous path between adjacently positioned elements of the plurality of elements.

Abstract: The invention relates to a hair-straightening device (10) comprising: an air inlet portion (12) for receiving an air stream having a first direction (14), a brush or comb (16) having a plurality of tines (18) and intended to be moved in a moving direction (20), and means (22, 24) for redirecting the air stream into a second direction (26), wherein the angle (?) enclosed by the moving direction (20) and the second direction (26) is smaller than 50 degrees, preferably smaller than 30 degrees, and most preferably smaller than 20 degrees.

Abstract: A hairbrush and method of brushing are provided in which tangled hair may be brushed out at a better rate and with less pain. The hairbrush includes bristles that are mounted on revolving track portions so that when the bristles encounter a tangle or a resistance in the hair, the bristles are free to rotate. The hairbrush further includes a thumb button to adjust the resistance of the revolving track portion from a freely rotating position to a fixed position.

Abstract: A hairbrush assembly includes an elongated first cylinder having a first end and a second end. An elongated second cylinder is positioned on and is rotatable with respect to the first cylinder. The second cylinder has a distal end and a proximal end with respect to the second end of the first cylinder. The second end extends outwardly from the distal end of the second cylinder. The second cylinder has a plurality of rows of aligned apertures extending from the proximal end and toward the distal end. A plurality of bristle assemblies is provided and each is positioned between the first and second cylinders adjacent to the first end of the first cylinder. Each of the bristle assemblies is selectively positioned in an extended position extending outwardly of the apertures or in a retracted position positioned within an interior space defined between the first and second cylinders.

Abstract: A retractable bristle brush of the type for retracting the bristles into the brush is provided. The retractable bristle brush includes a handle adapted for grasping by a user and an elongated, cylindrical inner mandrel extending from the handle; a plurality of bristles extending outwardly from the inner mandrel; a cylindrical external mandrel is slidably mounted on the inner mandrel, the external mandrel forming a bristle orifice through a top surface thereof in connection with a bristle cavity formed by the external mandrel wherein each associated orifice and bristle cavity disposes at least one bristle; and a mechanism for controlling bristle extension in connection between the external mandrel and the internal mandrel limiting longitudinal movement of the external mandrel between an open position wherein the bristles extend through the orifice and a closed position wherein the bristles are retracted to a position within the bristle cavity proximate the top surface of the external mandrel.

Abstract: A device for applying a product to keratinous material, such as hair, for example, eyelashes or eyebrows, or to fingernails. The device may comprise a support made of a first material and a mounting member coupled to the support. The mounting member may be made of a second material having a rigidity lower than a rigidity of the first material. The device also may comprise at least one row of applicator elements on the mounting member capable of applying the product to the keratinous material. The mounting member may be configured to pivot with respect to the support when at least some of the applicator elements contact the keratinous material during application of the product.

Abstract: A tint brush with diffuser consists of a container that screws onto the tinter body with a diffuser. The diffuser significantly improves continuous and even flow of the dye, eliminating unwanted side leakage at the bases of the bristles. This is done by covering or by introducing the dye to the bristles above the triangle like gaps at the base of the bristles. A tinter body with a diffuser can also be manufactured with different kinds of the flow regulators, a constant resistance flow regulator and the adjustable resistance flow regulator. Another feature that can be included on the tinter body is a needle point that can be inserted into the front side of the collector chamber of the tinter body, or designed as an extension member of the flow regulator. Bristle plate can also be attached with two teeth member onto the nozzle diffuser for a quick assembly or removal if desired.

Abstract: A tint brush with a color distributor is provided having an anatomically designed container which has an elliptical shape and is screwed onto a connection pipe with a main tinter body. The container and connection pipe are inclined relative to a vertical axis of the main tinter body, preferably, by 60 degrees. A free flow of hair dye mixture from the container is enabled by squeezing the container or by using a pump provided in the container in an alternative embodiment. A collector area defined in the main tinter body collects dye mixture wherefrom the dye mixture is distributed with the aid of a flow regulator and a plurality of radial exit bores which define, on their ends, funnel-like or shaped openings that open in tangent with a set of bristles connected to the tinter body. The flow regulator is suitably grooved so that the rate of dye mixture flowing through the main tinter body can be regulated from a minimum to a maximum amount by turning the flow regulator by 90 degrees.

Abstract: A comb structure has a primary, longitudinally extending tube, and a plurality of transversely extending tubes. The primary tube has a fitting secured at one end and is closed at the other, while the secondary tubes have ports at their free ends. The fitting is manually securable to a top of a squeeze bottle that contains a hair treatment chemical. The comb structure is of unitary construction and is manually secured to the bottle with sufficient mechanical strength that the comb structure and the bottle form a single device that can be used under single-handed operation.

Abstract: The liquid dispensing comb comprises a flask containing a liquid and having a neck provided with a thread for receiving a tapped nipple of the comb. The comb has a back with at least one series of parallel teeth each having a lower part. The back has a central duct longitudinally arranged therein, in communication with the tappered nipple, and leading to capillary channels opening either between the teeth of the comb or at a lower part of the teeth of the comb. The central duct is of a circular shape with a cross-section varying from the tapped nipple to an opposite end part of the comb.

Abstract: A comb an adjustable tooth-bearing head piece which allows the user to adjust the head piece to any of a variety of angles with respect to the handle of the comb. The handle has two arms which extend in a forward direction one from each side of the handle. The head piece is adjustably mated with the arms of the handle. In one embodiment, the body of the head piece has a polygonal cross section at least at its ends and the handle arms have corresponding polygonal recesses. The cooperating mating surfaces in the arms and the head piece allow the head piece to assume differing angular positions in an indexed manner with respect to the arms. In another embodiment, the head piece is generally cylindrical and is pivotally attached to the arms.

Abstract: A debris-trapping comb comprises a handle having an elongated tooth-receiving portion and a gripping portion coupled with the tooth-receiving portion. A plurality of closely spaced teeth are mounted along the length of the elongated tooth-receiving portion and project outwardly thereof. An elongated debris-trapping shield member is coupled to the handle and has a trapping portion and a mounting portion for mounting the shield member to the handle. The trapping portion projects to one side of the teeth and along the length of the tooth-receiving portion and defines a trap area between the teeth and the trapping portion for trapping debris caught by the teeth during combing. A hinge extends longitudinally across the shield member for hingedly joining the trapping portion to the mounting portion and positioned for permitting the trapping portion to be hingedly retracted away from the teeth to thereby open the trap area to permit removal of debris therefrom.

Abstract: A comb having closely spaced rotatable teeth which can be mass produced in an efficient manner. The comb is composed of a handle having a recess formed therein for receiving a tooth holder portion in which the teeth are axially rotatably retained. The tooth holder portion is composed of two sections, each having axial halves of generally cylindrical bores formed thereon such that when the surfaces in which the bore halves are formed are brough into facially abutting engagement, and the sections are attached, teeth can be inserted into the bores formed therebetween and retained therein. Each tooth is formed with a generally rounded end which contacts the area to be groomed and an opposite end having an enlarged head portion formed thereon having a diameter generally larger than the diameter of the bore through which the tooth axially projects.

Abstract: A hair styling implement for facilitating the withdrawal of spaced groups of hair strands from the scalp for separate treatment with bleach or the like for "frosting" or "streaking" combines a comb having a comb back portion which extends into a pick-type handle at one end with a plurality of equi-distantly spaced, arcuate hook members moveable between open and closed positions with respect to the outer edge of the comb back portion by operation of a slide member with the use of the thumb while holding the handle.

Abstract: A sectioning tool for sectioning the hair on a person's head allows individual sections of hair to be easily, quickly and thoroughly treated with chemical solutions such as hair colors, tints or relaxers. The tool includes a base member having two substantially perpendicular legs, one of which is used to secure the tool in the hair next to the scalp. A plurality of finger means are individually movably mounted on the second leg from a first position where they divide the hair into a plurality of sections and to a second position so that the section of hair held between individual ones of the finger means is released for treatment.

Abstract: A comb includes a hollow frame having a pair of fixed teeth at opposite ends thereof, and a cap having a depending body portion disposed within the hollow interior of the frame. A series of transversely extending open slots in one longitudinally extending side planar face of the body portion receives individually a series of axially rotatable rod-like teeth. Each one of the open slots is four-sided in cross-sectional shape, and the fourth side is open in the plane of the face. The depth of the slots is greater than the thickness of the teeth so that the teeth fit entirely within the slots. In one embodiment of the present invention, the teeth are made by rotating axially rod stock and moving a cutter having the configuration of the desired shape of the teeth into cutting engagement with the rod stock.

Abstract: A hair grooming device includes a brush head surrounded by a rotatable cover member having a lateral opening through which bristles on the brush head are exposable. A handle for the brush head includes a reservoir for a liquid treating agent and communicates through a passage in the brush head with small dispensing holes spaced among the bristles. The cover member is rotatable between a bristle exposed position in which the bristles are exposed through the lateral opening, and a bristle storage position in which the bristles are concealed within the cover member. The cover member has comb teeth thereon adjacent the lateral opening, and seals are provided between the brush head and cover member to prevent leakage of treating agent from the bristles in the bristle storage position of the cover member.

Abstract: A comb including an elongated body having a recess extending from one edge thereof with an insert having teeth supported thereon received into the recess is disclosed herein. The respective teeth are supported in openings in the insert and have enlarged heads at one end which are located between the base wall of the recess and the adjacent surface of the insert and have an axial dimension less than the spacing therebetween so that the respective teeth can move axially as well as rotate about their own axes during use of the comb.

Abstract: A hairbrush has a body member provided with a plurality of apertures, and a plurality of substantially rigid pins mounted on the body member and each extending through one of the apertures. Each pin extends through the respective aperture with play relative thereto so as to be pivotable relative to the body member. Each pin has a shaft part extending with play through a front portion of the aperture adjacent to the outer surface of the body member, and a head part received with play in an enlarged rear portion of the aperture.
