  • Patent number: 6890388
Abstract: A method of cleaning using an insonified, pressurized liquid to cleanse and then wash off particulates. The liquid is used to focus and direct the acoustical energy while enabling the trapping of the partials being cleaned and then used to wash off the partials. The acoustical frequency and power is described as optimized to be below the energy level to cause cavitation at the surface of the part being cleaned. The manufacturing process of loading, cleaning and unloading is also described. In another embodiment, a small amount of cavitation is acceptable if the cavitation is below a threshold in which shock waves occur.

  • Patent number: 6843860
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for pickling hot-rolled special steel strips (1) having an austenite, ferrite and/or martensite structure. The inventive method is carried out in a pickling line (7) with pickling sections (8) containing acids and rinsing sections (9) containing rinsing water (15). The aim of the invention is to provide a method that does not require an additional stretch-leveling step for descaling. The costs for pickling are reduced by pickling the hot-rolled special steel strip (1) in the pickling sections (8) with hydrochloric acid (13) and rinsing it in the first rinsing sections (9) with azotic acid (14) or an equivalent substitute pickling medium (14b) and treating it in further rinsing sections (9) with rinsing water (15).

Abstract: A process for restoring magnetic recording tape damaged by “Sticky Shed” syndrome cleans magnetic tapes of the Backcoating which is causing their eventual degradation and destruction. The Backcoating is first removed in a multi-step process. A liquid cleaner, such as isopropyl alcohol, is applied to the Backcoating to dissolve it from and clean it off the Mylar Base. Before the liquid cleaner is applied, steps are taken to prevent the cleaner fluid from getting onto the Oxide side of the tape. The chemical cleaning is done as quickly as possible. The second step is to dry clean the Base surface of the tape to remove the remaining solvent and the debris of any remaining Backcoating. Then, the Oxide side of the tape is given a dry, non-chemical cleaning to remove the residue of contamination of the Backcoating which was deposited on the Oxide side of the tape as the result of physical contact with the Backcoating from the storage on the reel of tape.

  • Patent number: 6581429
Abstract: To improve the productivity of the cold rolling facility by providing the cold rolling facility with a strip wiper free of dust and foreign matters suitable for high-speed rolling. The wiping ability was greatly improved by floating and supporting the wiper roll by the static pressure bearing of air of two-pocket type, and by variably adjusting the load range of the floating force in response to the plate width. At high-speed rolling exceeding 700 m/min which was incapable with the conventional roll wiper or tube wiper, the productivity of the cold rolling facility and the surface quality of the strip were greatly improved by applying to the cold rolling facility the wiping device whose wiping ability is equal to or better than the tube wiper at low speeds, and its effect is very large.

  • Patent number: 6558456
Abstract: The present invention relates to an apparatus for controlling the behavior of particulate matter such as mist and dust occurring in the manufacture of paper and board. A web (1) is passed to web treatment equipment (22, 23) wherein at least one treatment step is applied to the web (1) causing the emission of said particulate matter (24). In the vicinity of the emission point (21) of said particulate matter are placed at least two electrodes (25, 26) and at least one electrode, called a counter-electrode (26), is at a low potential. Further, at least one electrode (25) is at a potential higher than that of said counter-electrode (26), and the potential difference between said electrodes (25, 26) is made so high as to generate a corona discharge between said electrodes that causes an ion-blast wind toward the electrode (26) of the lower potential, said ion-blast wind being capable of transferring particular matter, which enters the gap between said electrodes, toward said electrode of lower potential.

Abstract: A cleaning apparatus for cleaning solder paste off the bottom side of a printed circuit board stencil includes a container of cleaning solution therein and a blade holder that is movable between a wiping position and the container of cleaning solution. A wiping blade is mounted in the blade holder. The blade holder, with the blade mounted thereon, is reciprocated back and forth when in communication with a stencil to be cleaned. The blade is moved from the wiping position in communication with the stencil into the cleaning solution in the container. A pneumatic piston and rotary actuator provides controlled movement of the wiping blade. The wiping blade may be vibrated during wiping to improve removal of solder paste from the stencil and the cleaning solution may be ultrasonically vibrated to improve removal of solder paste from the wiping blade. The wiping blade may also be pulsed into a sponge to remove excess cleaning solution prior to the next cleaning cycle.

The cleaning line includes a chemical cleaning section and at least one rinse section, with cleaning solution being sprayed onto the top and bottom faces of the aluminum strip as it passes through the cleaning section. A programmable logic controller has a dwell time set point for each coil of aluminum strip, which gives for standard conditions of chemical concentration and temperature the time the strip should be exposed to the spray. The controller receives input signals based on the measured temperature and concentration of the cleaning solution and adjusts the dwell time of the cleaning solution spray on the aluminum strip accordingly.

  • Patent number: 6503332
Abstract: A part of a drive roller, whose peripheral surface is coated with an elastic body, is immersed in a cleaning liquid, and the rotation of the drive roller causes the surface of the elastic body to be wet with the cleaning liquid. The elastic body wet with the cleaning liquid continuously rubs a surface of a film being fed. Then, a wash nozzle sprays a cleaning liquid to the surface that has been rubbed by the elastic body. A shearing stress of the elastic body rubs off foreign matter adhering to the film. The foreign matter that has not been rubbed off by the elastic body is washed off by the cleaning liquid sprayed from the wash nozzle.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method and a device for treating surfaces of metallic strip material (1), especially for pickling rolled material, in a treatment channel (2), with a pickling medium (3) containing acid. Jets (4)are set in the direction which the strip is transported (5) at the entrance to the channel (2a) and in the opposite direction that in which the strip is transported at the exit of the channel (2b). The aim of the invention is to produce a closed liquid film with some turbulence on the surface of the strip. Said film should be maintained as far as the exit (2b) of the channel. To this end, additional jets (4) between the channel entrance (2a) and the channel exit (2b) are oriented in the opposite direction to the direction in which the strip is transported (5) and the pickling medium (3) is further delayed in flowing out at the channel exit (2 b) by mechanical resistance devices (7) situated in the path of the transport channel (6).
