  • Patent number: 4917127
Abstract: The invention provides a portable shelter including a base, a seat, and a collapsible windscreen assembly which is mounted on the base around the seat. The portable shelter according to the invention can be readily transported over snow or ice, and then set up for winter sports such as ice fishing. In preferred embodiments, the base of the unit defines a storage compartment wherein the windscreen assembly can be stowed when not in use. A cushioned seat functions as the lid for the storage compartment. According to an additional aspect of the invention, the seat is disposed in parallel to the bottom wall of the base which supports the unit so that the unit need not be turned on end prior to use.

  • Patent number: 4829694
Abstract: An all weather portable blind having a breast-body segment and a tail-body segment constructed of a waterproof fabric stretched over lightweight flexible wands. The breast body segment overlaps the tail body segment because the tail has a smaller arc, a stay in the rear apex of the breast and a quickly releasable connection, like a Fastex #SR1 snap buckle, held in tension by an elastic cord staked into the ground. The combination appears as a goose and is large enough to hold a hunter. The breast overlaps the tail and the gap permits a rear view, a sphincter opening in the breast provides a forward view. The breast also has an inflatable neck and head that in combination with rings and releasable straps can change positions.

  • Patent number: 4751936
Abstract: A hunting blind comprising an elongated frame assembly of sufficient length to extend over a hunter lying under the blind incorporates a pivotal canopy frame with ground engaging, side support flaps. The canopy frame is hingedly connected to one end of a top frame segment of a base frame supported on foldable legs. An elongated spring is connected between the canopy frame and the base frame. A hunter lying under the frame assembly may exert slight upward force on the canopy frame as he sits up, so as to thereby cause the spring to rapidly pull the canopy frame to an open position over the top frame segment. An unobstructed field of vision and fire is thus presented to the hunter as he sits up.

  • Patent number: 4716919
Abstract: Blind (8) is constructed with a tubular frame structure (10) and a tubular, automatic, bidirectionally opening top (12). The tubular elements of frame structure (10) are interconnected by upper and lower corner connectors (19) and (20). Top (12) is composed of a plurality of generally U-shaped rafter assemblies (40F, 40I and 40R) pivotally mounted on frame structure (10) to rotate about a common axis of rotation (48). A resilient cord (72) transversely spans the rafter assemblies and is connected to the forward rafter assembly (40F) and rearward rafter assembly (40R). Quick release latches interconnect the forward and rearward rafter assemblies to the upper portions of frame structure (10). When a particular latch assembly is released, the resilient cord (72), being in stretched condition, causes the rafter assemblies to automatically pivot in concert about common pivot axis (48) in the direction away from the released latch thereby to shift top (12) into open position.

Abstract: A game blind includes a sled like base so it may be pulled behind a walking hunter. The game blind includes a framework movable to a first position where camouflage material is deployed in front of a seat supported on the base. When game birds arrive, the hunter trips a latch mechanism to move the camouflage material out of the way thereby allowing a shot over the top of the camouflage material. A dry box supports the seat above the base and provides a convenient storage location. The game blind may be used by camera buffs or rifle hunters by sighting through a slit in the camouflage material.

  • Patent number: 4671203
Abstract: A duck blind adapted for mounting on the gunwales of a boat hull includes separate bow, stern and central frame sections adapted for use on various size boats. Camouflage designed cover sections with windows are provided for each frame section and are removably connected by zippers to provide a cover over the entire boat. Desired access points or shooting stations from the boat to the outside are obtained by the stragetically arrangement of zippered fasteners. A reticulated camouflage type curtain is arranged inside the cover sections to provide concealment for the hunter when designated cover sections are unzippered. A separate zippered section in the central cover provides ingress and egress for the hunter's dog and the reticulated curtain can be arranged by appropriate zippering to provide an enclosure about the dog's station within the boat to protect the hunter from the water spray when the dog returns to the boat from the water and shakes itself off.

  • Patent number: 4646770
Abstract: The present invention relates to a portable, self-anchoring, wind-deflector and shelter structure having a unique configuration so as to employ the impinging wind forces to create the self-anchoring arrangement. The structure is formed with a base member defining a floor having an arcuate rear edge and a longitudinal front edge which forms either a parabolic or hyperbolic configuration, and includes an upright wall being angularly disposed to the base member. The wall is further formed with a compound-curved surface that includes oppositely positioned, tapered, wind channels which allow the wind to blow in a forward and downward direction against the base member, thus causing the structure to be fixed in a stabilized position while subjected to high wind velocities.

  • Patent number: 4505286
Abstract: A portable personal shelter formed of a sheet of water-repellant canvas or fabric having a semi-circular edge provided with a gusset through which is disposed a bowed flexible rod. The ends of the rod projecting from the gusset are provided with a ring to which is removably attached the end of a chordal member in the form of an elastic band provided at each end with a hook for attachment to a ring. A rope is attached to the center of the straight chordal edge of the sheet for attachment to a tree trunk or to a vertical post, with the chordal member engaged with the surface of the tree trunk or vertical post, thus forming a semi-conical roof for protecting a person from rain or snow. For easy transportation, the elastic band is doubled-up by passing through a ring and attaching both hooks to the same opposite rings such as to decrease the chordal length. While in the transportation mode, the shelter can be carried on the head of a person to provide protection against rain or snow while walking.
