With Means For Retaining External Means In Bias Opposing Position Patents (Class 137/523)
  • Patent number: 11692640
Abstract: A fluid control device includes a body having an inlet, an outlet, and a fluid flow path between the inlet and the outlet, a seat, and a control element that is coupled to a stem. The control element and the stem are movable along a first axis and biased toward a closed position in which the control element engages the seat. The fluid control device includes an actuator assembly including a shaft that is operatively coupled to the stem via a Scotch yoke mechanism such that rotation of the shaft in a first rotational direction causes movement of the stem and control element along the first axis in a first translational direction. The actuator assembly includes a trigger mechanism that is responsive to fluid pressure and prevents rotation of the shaft in a first mode of operation and releases the shaft to allow rotation in a second mode of operation.

When a collision breaks the break off bolts holding the fire hydrant to the hydrant break off riser, the lateral trigger is released and the valve rotates to a closed position. • Patent number: 6164314
Abstract: An oversized air valve for use with inflatable devices typically in an above-the-ground swimming pool or an inflatable mattress is disclosed. In its most fundamental embodiment, the oversized air valve for use with inflatable devices includes a construction having an outer housing and a base flange connected to the outer housing for being secured to an inflatable device. A cylindrical passageway is formed through the outer housing for carrying pressurized air. A cap attached to the cylindrical passageway enables the air valve to be sealed against air leakage. Finally, a removable rigid member is insertable into the cylindrical passageway for preventing deformation to the air valve. The removable rigid member is force-fitted into the cylindrical passageway and is of a length sufficient to displace a back pressure flap hinged to the bottom of the cylindrical passageway.

  • Patent number: 6027315
Abstract: A simplified control valve system is provided wherein a single multi-functional orifice provides the required bleed from the control cylinder chamber as well as the required venting of the system for blow down. Preferably, the control line will be an oil scavenger line and the multi-functional orifice will be positioned in the inlet passage of the valve to the compressor and a suitable oil sump positioned adjacent to the multi-optional orifice to collect any oil blown there through during blow down. The valve of the present invention is also adjustable by rotating the valve stem to which the control piston is connected.

  • Patent number: 5988245
Abstract: A vehicle wheel assembly includes a tire, a rim, an air valve and a relief valve. The relief valve can be installed in the rim, in the tire, or incorporated into the housing of the air valve to communicate directly with the interior of the tire; or as an adapter attachable to the outer end of the air valve. The relief valve includes an aperture normally covered by pre-stressed flexible belt which seals the aperture, but upon the presence of excessive pressure in the tire is deforming to vent the excessive pressure to the atmosphere. A second described variation relief valve includes a weakened portion of its housing which is automatically ruptured upon the presence of excessive pressure; this variation provides a one-time venting adapter.

  • Patent number: 5918623
Abstract: The invention relates to a starting valve for progressive build-up of pressure in an installation through which pressure medium flows, comprising a housing with a first opening for coupling to a first component of the installation and a second opening for coupling to a second component of the installation, a channel connecting the two openings, a piston which is movable to and fro in the housing between a closed and an open position and has at least one first and one second pressure surface, wherein on the first pressure surface the pressure prevailing in the region of the first opening applies and on the second pressure surface the pressure prevailing in the region of the second opening applies, means for maintaining a low flow of pressure medium--while the piston is in the closed position--from one opening to the other, and a spring element which pushes the piston into the closed position. According to the invention all pressure surfaces have an action which pushes the piston into the open position.

  • Patent number: 5819791
Abstract: A preferred embodiment of FIGS. 1-3 includes a check valve (10) with a pair of semicircular check valve members (34, 36) normally permitting fluid flow in one direction and blocking fluid flow in an opposite direction. Semicircular valve member (36) is releasably locked in an open position to permit a back flow upon manual rotation of handle (46) after manual gripping of knurled knob (84) and withdrawal of a locking pin (82) from a receiving opening (96). A safety lever (98) is pivoted out of a covering relation to knob (84) before knob (84) is gripped and prevents rotation of shaft (38) unless lever (98) is manually pivoted out of covering relation with knob (84). Another embodiment shown in FIG. 4 permits selective opening of a semicircular plate valve member (34A or 36A) to a releasably locked open position. Manual rotation of handle (46A) in one direction effects movement of semicircular valve member (36A) to an open position.

  • Patent number: 5662139
Abstract: A lever actuated pressure relief valve useful at the base of a gridded sprinkler system to perform three functions. The first function is as a pressure relief valve for the sprinkler system, the second function is a closed position for permitting the pressure testing of the sprinkler system, and the third position is an open position to permit the testing of the alarm system of the sprinkler system. The valve has a spring loaded valve stem which is operated by a lever which may be moved under a covered recess to hold the valve in a closed position. It may be moved to a pressure relief system where the valve is held only by a valve spring. It may also be turned to a third position where the valve is opened.

  • Patent number: 5396925
Abstract: A bi-directional cracking valve that can be selectively opened. Bi-directional cracking valve (10, 70) is formed using an elastomeric membrane (34). Centered within the elastomeric membrane is a slit (36) that remains closed, blocking fluid flow through the device until a differential pressure across the elastomeric membrane exceeds a predefined cracking pressure, sufficient to force fluid through the slit. The elastomeric membrane is an integral part of an elastomeric cylinder (28), which is mounted in a valve carrier (12). The valve carrier includes ports disposed at opposite ends and the ports are adapted to couple to tubing. An operator can selectively enable fluid flow through the device by squeezing side tabs (40, 42) disposed on opposite sides of the elastomeric membrane together, forcing the slit open. A latch (46) is provided to keep the bi-directional cracking valve in an open state.
