  • Patent number: 8375982
Abstract: A hydraulic manifold has features adapted to the needs of hybrid vehicle applications. In one embodiment, multifunction valves selectively regulate fluid flow among primary and auxiliary flow paths. A normally closed butterfly valve is biased by a relatively small secondary biasing force against rotation in first and second (opposite) directions, and by a relatively large principal biasing force against rotation in the first direction past a transitional angular position at which the principal biasing force takes effect. An actuator selectively controls the transitional angular position and the magnitude of the principal biasing force. In the first direction, flow must overcome only the secondary biasing force to pass the valve. In the second direction, any flow sufficient to overcome the secondary biasing force but not the principal biasing force will divide into a first flow passing the valve and a second flow induced to enter an auxiliary path upstream.

  • Patent number: 6019115
Abstract: The present invention relates to an excess flow valve system having a sliding poppet within a chamber with an orifice at one end, wherein the closing flow rate settings can be adjusted. Precise adjustments can be made externally by turning a threaded member extending through the valve, which causes a retainer, threadably located on the member, to move laterally within the chamber. This movement causes an angled surface on the retainer to engage and slide in relation to a similarly angled surface on the poppet. As the poppet is urged toward the retainer by a coiled spring, the poppet is moved longitudinally within the chamber, either toward or away from the orifice. Turning the threaded member enables the maximum travel distance of the poppet, and therefore, the threshold flow rate of the valve, to be precisely set.

Abstract: An adjustable pressure limiting valve having a non-linear biasing means. The valve has a movable valve member that can be moved to an open position by a predetermined pressure and a closed position on a valve seat. A rotating control knob is rotated by the user to adjust the bias acting against the movable valve member toward the closed position to, in turn, set the pressure at which the valve opens. A rotating cylindrical drum rotates along with the control knob and has a helical groove formed in its exterior and a pair of fixed pins that ride in the helical groove. When the cylindrical drum is rotated, the fixed pins riding in the helical grove cause the cylindrical drum to move along its longitudinal axis to compress or decompress a spring acting against the movable valve member. The pitch of the helical groove is designed so as to create a non-linear relationship between the rotational movement of the control knob and the longitudinal movement of the cylindrical drum.

Preferably another pair of helical ramps is provided concentric with the first but angularly offset 180.degree. with the result that when the components are at maxinum axial separation the residual contact between the ramps of each pair (shaded areas in FIG. 5e) will be on opposite sides of the axis x of rotation and prolongation, thus preventing tilting of the one component out of axial alignment with the other component. In other constructions more than two pairs of ramps are employed. Spring 23 reacts on thrust member 22 which is adjustable axially through a cam mechanism 25/26 to vary the biasing force of spring 23. A valve member 20 spring loaded at 21 relative to thrust member 15 normally closes an exhaust port 19 to an air or other gas passage 5 through which gas passes under pressure to be injected into the beverage from passage 3. An increase in beverage pressure in passage 3 displaces sensing member 15 to increase the spring biasing 21 on the closure member 20 and reduce the proportion of air which can escape to atmosphere from passage 5 through exhaust port 19 to provide an increase in air flow into the beverage.

  • Patent number: 4644972
Abstract: A valve assembly for the control of pressurized fluids. The assembly comprises a casing housing a valve chamber with communicating inlet and outlet ports. A valve seat and valve-operating subassembly is associated with one of the ports. The valve-operating subassembly comprises a valve body threaded into the casing adjacent the valve seat. The valve body has an axial bore which receives a headed shaft having a seal washer mounted on its head in separable engagement with the valve seat. Resilient means, e.g. a coil spring, urges the washer in the direction of engagement with the valve seat with a force less than the force of the pressurized fluid introduced into the chamber. The shaft and/or seal washer preferably are mounted for free rotation to minimize scuffing of the washer during operation of the valve.

  • Patent number: 4379470
Abstract: In the housing of a closing cap 2, a valve seat plate 3 is held in place by means of a resilient ring 8 forming at the same time a seal relative to the tank connection to which the closing cap is screwed by its internal thread 1. The valve seat plate 3 supports a sub-pressure valve 4 and an excess-pressure valve 5. Aside from its seal ring 13, the closing member 4 of the sub-pressure valve is made in one piece. The excess-pressure valve 5 comprises a loose valve disc 28 cooperating with a valve seat 27 of the valve seat plate 3. The closing spring 30 is non-rotatably secured to the valve disc 28 and bears by its other open end against a stop 37 so that, by turning the valve disc, the spring pressure is increased or reduced. For this purpose, the valve disc is actuated by a tool introduced through the outlet aperture 21.

  • Patent number: 3964585
Abstract: Hydraulic double clutch comprising a tractor-driving clutch unit and a power takeoff clutch unit accommodated in a clutch housing serving also as an oil tank. Hydraulic pumps disposed in the housing have gears respectively meshing with a gear on the drive disk assembly of the double clutch to force the working oil into the clutch units through individual oil passages and to push the pistons of the units. Each of the oil passages is provided with a poppet valve at an intermediate portion thereof. The poppet valves are opened or closed to disengage or engage the clutch units independently of each other for interruption or transmission of the torque of engine. Each of the valves is automatically opened when the pressure on the piston builds up to excess and is therefore serviceable also as a pressure control valve. The valve is operable to bring the clutch unit into substantially semi-engaged state.
