  • Patent number: 6959733
Abstract: A plug for closing a hole in a structural member includes a shank having an upper end with a recess extending toward the lower end of the shank. The recess divides the upper end into a central portion and an outer, deformable portion radially outwardly spaced from the central portion by the recess. The deformable portion has an engagement region deformable by and sealingly engageable with a wall of the hole when the shank is pressed into and retained by the hole. The flange extends radially outwardly from the outer, deformable portion. The engagement region has an outer diameter larger than an inner diameter of the hole, whereby the material of the engagement region can be deformed into the recess when the shank is pressed into the hole and the wall of the hole forms a groove in the engagement region thereby retaining the shank in the hole.

  • Patent number: 6864801
Abstract: An apparatus and a method for controlling oilfield production to improve efficiency includes a remote sensing unit that is placed within a subsurface formation, an antenna structure for communicating with the remote sensing unit, a casing joint having nonconductive “windows” for allowing a internally located antenna to communicate with the remote sensing unit, and a system for obtaining subsurface formation data and for producing the formation data to a central location for subsequent analysis. The remote sensing unit is placed sufficiently far from the wellbore to reduce or eliminate effects that the wellbore might have on formation data samples taken by the remote sensing unit. The remote sensing unit is an active device with the capability of responding to control commands by determining certain subsurface formation characteristics such as pressure or temperature, and transmitting corresponding data values to a wellbore tool.

  • Patent number: 6799608
Abstract: There is an object to provide a technique of forming a proper abrasion resistance layer by a thermal spraying and fusing of a self fluxing alloy. The object may be solved by cutting the pipe body along a curved face that is perpendicular to a plane including a central axis of the pipe body and that extends not to cross the inlet hole and the outlet hole but to include a part of the central axis. Thus the pipe body is divided into a first partitioned part having at least one of the inlet hole and the outlet hole, and a second partitioned part. An abrasion resistance layer is then formed on the inner surface of at least the outer bent portion of the pipe body by a thermal spraying and fusing of a self fluxing alloy. Thereafter, the first partitioned part is fitted into the second partitioned part for welding to obtain a bent pipe according to the present invention.

  • Publication number: 20040108420
Abstract: A cover having first and second halves is used in combination with clamps to cover elongated items such as wires and pipes. The first and second halves cooperate together to form a cavity that receives the elongated items and clamps. The halves may be formed with identical cross sections so that they may be fabricated from a single mold. The halves may snap together or be connected with a fastener. Each cover half includes a pair of opposed locking ledges that form slots sized to receive the opposed feet of the clamp. The clamps are installed by angling the clamps with respect to the longitudinal axis of the cover and pressing the clamp against the base wall of the cover. The clamp is then twisted to a position substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the cover. The twisting motion simultaneously moves the feet of the clamp under the locking ledges of the clamp cover.

  • Patent number: 5536353
Abstract: A method and apparatus for forming inspection apertures through the insulation cladding of a containment vessel by forming an opening partly through the cladding which is thereafter lined by an adhered liner. The depth of the liner is less than the thickness of the cladding, thereby precluding heat transfer thereacross. The removed plug of the insulation is then fixed by an adhesive spray about its exterior, and once cured can then be replaced into the liner to recreate substantially identical insulative qualities. On replacement, a bridging cover is adhered across the liner to maintain the weather integrity of the cladding. This cover may be removed on successive occassions to allow for repeated inspection of the vessel walls.

  • Patent number: 5524411
Abstract: A cover for a handhole of a utility pole is provided. The cover includes a plate with a bolt passing therethrough and a back bracket threaded to the bolt. The back bracket is configured to engage an inwardly extending lip formed on a periphery of the handhole opening. A plate includes a recess which is directed inward towards the back bracket. The bolt passes through a hole in a floor of the recess. The recess inhibits unauthorized access to a head of the bolt. A spring is interposed between a head of the bolt and the floor which biases the back bracket toward the cover. The back bracket remains in contact with the inwardly extending lip of the handhole opening unless the head of the bolt is depressed, compressing the spring to allow the back bracket to be rotated.

  • Patent number: 5520220
Abstract: An apparatus is provided for an access port through an insulative coating or vapor barrier wrap on tubing in cold chemical processes. The apparatus seals against entry of vapors and moisture into the access port which might accumulate there and freeze, causing ice build-up and preventing access of testing probes to the tubing. The apparatus also has an insulative effect against transfer of external ambient heat through its structure to the tubing.

  • Patent number: 5509148
Abstract: A three-way elbow for connection between a trap and a waste line is provided with a valved access ending in a plug. Removal of the plug allows attachment of a first end of a hose in its place. The second end of the hose is held above the water level of a sink by attachment to a board that fits over the sink. A snake inserted through the hose is directed by passageways in the elbow to the waste line. A container is mounted between a faucet for the sink and the second end of the hose so that disinfectant in the container can be carried into the hose. Brushes are mounted in the second end of the hose so as to aid in cleaning the snake as it is withdrawn.
