  • Patent number: 6073659
Abstract: Underground cavities containing liquid contaminants are remediated by drilling directionally through the cavity and then pulling back pipe with a slotted section extending through the cavity. The pipe is supplied on reels in lengths much longer than in the prior art, thus avoiding the joining by butt welding of successive short lengths of pipe as in the prior art. Slots are preferably cut parallel to the axis of the pipe or at a angle in respect to the axis instead of being cut radially as in the prior art, so that a much greater portion of the pipe circumference remains joined together, thereby substantially increasing the axial strength of the pipe.

  • Patent number: 6029714
Abstract: A stainless steel pipe of the bright annealing finish type, having a highly-soothed inner surface according to the present invention is characterized in that the inner surface roughness of the pipe, expressed in Rmax is 1.0 micrometer or less, and suitable as a clean pipe for use in an apparatus for the production of semiconductors. According to the method of production of the present invention, a stainless steel pipe having a highly-smoothed inner surface can be obtained by cold drawing and bright annealing treatment only. By this method, such a treatment that has been considered to be essential, for example, electrochemical polishing can be omitted, so that the production cost can be greatly reduced. The stainless steel pipe of the invention can thus be widely utilized in the fields of the production of semiconductors and the like.

  • Patent number: 6024131
Abstract: A method of forming a flexible spiral-wound tube includes the steps of spiral wrapping at least two webs of material in an overlapping relationship about a mandrel to form a multi-ply tube and advancing the tube along the mandrel and off a reduced diameter portion of the mandrel at a forward end of the mandrel. Advancement of the tube along the mandrel includes rotating the tube as the tube longitudinally moves such that the tube advances in a spiral manner. The method further includes the step of retarding movement of the tube along the reduced diameter portion of the mandrel by providing frictional resistance between the tube and the mandrel to form folds or pleats in the tube so that the tube becomes extremely flexible. The flexible spiral-wound tube has a uniform pattern of generally diamond-shaped folds therein.

Abstract: A member M provides a preferred combination of reduced weight with increased resistance to buckling under compressive loading and includes a tubular member 10 with tool joints TJ at each end for connection to form a drill stem. The tubular member 10 further includes a first portion or pipe section 15 adjacent either one of the tool TJ and may include a second portion or pipe section 15' adjacent the other tool joint TJ which are of smaller or reduced diameter than the adjacent tool joint. An enlarged portion 20 extends longitudinally of the tubular member from adjacent the first portion to adjacent the second portion where there is a second portion adjacent the other tool joint. If there is only one first portion adjacent one tool joint, the enlarged diameter extends from adjacent such first portion to the tool joint at the other end of the tubular member. The enlarged portion 20 has a larger inner and outer diameter than the adjacent first portion.

  • Patent number: 4846147
Abstract: A chimney liner system for insertion into a masonry chimney from the top of the chimney down to a stove or fireplace insert. If an offset or a chimney shelf exists in the chimney, a flexible metal pipe member is connected to the bottom end of the chimney liner system. A ceramic heat resistant cloth formed as a sleeve encloses the flexible metal pipe member in selected systems, and in some systems, the sleeve encloses the entire chimney liner system. In some applications, the sleeve may be made from a fiberglass cloth sewn or connected to an inner blanket insulation.

  • Patent number: 4437679
Abstract: A light and strong tube structure for frames of bicycles and motorcycles has its cross sections with a variable thickness of the tube wall. Said wall is formed by two or more layers of different materials, of which at least one is metallic material and at least another one has a preferential direction of tensile strength. Preferably, the straight cross sections of the tube are outwardly defined by a circle and inwardly defined by an ellipse and the said layers comprise an external metallic layer and an internal layer of fibers incorporated into resin.

  • Patent number: 4410281
Abstract: A mixing apparatus and associated method comprising a system for supplying a first substance of liquid constitution and a system for supplying a second substance to an assembly of pipe elbows to effect mixing and transport of the substances along the assembly. The pipe elbows are right angle elbows connected one after the other in groups of three. Each group has an inlet and an outlet disposed in parallel planes and axially offset from one another. The pipe elbows in each group have center lines disposed in mutually perpendicular planes to cause the mixture to rotate as it travels along the pipe elbows.

  • Patent number: 4366608
Abstract: According to the invention, there is provided a method for manufacturing a fluid contacting device according to which a single side wall of vertically continuous hollow prism-shaped elements is formed of a single sheet of metal or like material and a plurality of such sheets are regularly arranged and joined together to form the fluid contacting device. By this arrangement, assembling of the fluid contacting device is made very simple, waste of material in forming the side wall sheet can be held to the minimum and an unused portion between a column and the fluid contacting device can be eliminated whereby a fluid contacting efficiency can be improved.

  • Patent number: 4336872
Abstract: Leadless electronic parts or the like are transferred from hoppers under the influence of gravity or by forced air through tubes of polygonal cross-section to a prepositioning template. The polygonal cross sections of the transferring tubes tend to damp out oscillatory motion of the parts and to speed their travel through the tubes. Each polygonal, preferably triangular, tube is preferably obtained by deforming a tube of circular cross-section in a forming machine including a plurality of discs arranged so that their peripheries define a polygonal space therebetween through which the tube of circular cross section is driven.
