Abstract: An improved cable tie installation tool includes a fixed cable tie guide channel mechanism that assists in retention of cable tie heads in a cable bundling position and prevents “bounce back” of the cable tie head back into the guide channel. The fixed guide channel mechanism is located near the distal end of the guide channel and includes a ramped surface and a retention wall oriented substantially perpendicular to the guide channel. The fixed guide channel mechanism is located on a side opposite a jaw assembly and may be combined with a biased retractable retainer assembly located on a wall opposite the guide channel mechanism. The fixed guide channel mechanism can serve as a primary system, a back-up to the retractable retainer assembly, or used in combination with the retractable retainer assembly. In embodiments, the guide channel mechanism may form an integral part of the guide channel or may be a separate insert affixed to the channel.

Abstract: A wire feed amount detection mechanism is configured by magnets mounted at an outer peripheral surface of a V-grooved drive gear of a wire feed mechanism and a magnetic sensor mounted on a body. A reinforcing bar winding turn number-setting switch is provided on the body. A control portion controls a wire feed amount of a wire feed mechanism based on a set value of the reinforcing bar winding turn number-setting switch. The number of turns of the wire around reinforcing bars can be arbitrarily set, for example, to any one of 1 to 4, and the binding can be effected with a binding force corresponding to a strength required by binding portions. As a result, with respect to those binding portions requiring a low binding force, the binding is effected with a smaller turn number, so that the amount of consumption of the wire can be saved, and besides those pipes (such as electric wiring pipes and hot water pipes) which are lower in strength than the reinforcing bars can also be bound together.

Abstract: An ergonomic cable tie installation tool includes a generally pistol-shaped housing including a grip which depends from a barrel. Pivotally connected to the lower region of the grip is a trigger linkage of a trigger mechanism. The trigger mechanism also includes an intermediate linkage pivotally connected to the trigger linkage. The intermediate linkage is supported in the housing. The intermediate linkage is, in turn, connected to a tensioning mechanism also supported in the housing. The tensioning mechanism couples the intermediate linkage to the cable tie. Pivoting the trigger linkage toward the grip, normally by the hand of a user, causes the intermediate linkage to pivot resulting in the tensioning mechanism producing an increased tension in the cable tie. The trigger linkage is oriented relative to the grip such that pivoting it toward the grip requires the stronger fingers of the user's hand to travel more than the weaker fingers thereby improving the ergonomics of the tool.

  • Patent number: 6513555
Abstract: A device for binding bundles of cables uses a continuously fed cable tie to bind the cables. The cable tie is wound around the bundle of cables by guide claws. The cable tie is secured by a latching lock which can be positioned in front of the guide claws. The cable tie is then cut off in a non-tensioned state behind the latching lock. While bundling the cables, a fastener can be positioned at the bundling location next to the latching lock if necessary. The fastener is configured so as to anchor the loom of cables to a support element. A carriage which can be shifted in the binding device, positions the latching locks and fasteners. The carriage includes holding jaws and a carrier which clutches the locks and fasteners fed from above. The carriage carries the parts to the outlet of the device at the transition area to the guide claws of the device. A feed channel is provided in the carriage.
