    Abstract: A power tool for trimming soft materials has a power driver with a drive train engaged with a cylindrical cutter body wherein the power driver rotates the cutter body about its longitudinal axis. A plurality of mutually spaced apart cutter teeth are fixed to an exterior surface of the cutter body. The cutter teeth each have a top surface and a sidewall surface, the sidewall surface extensive between the top surface and an exterior surface of the cutter body. The top surface of each of the cutter teeth is a four-sided convex polygon and the sidewall surface includes four mutually discrete surfaces corresponding to the sides of the polygon, with each of said discrete surfaces extending between the top surface and the cutter body.

    Abstract: An optical unit for projecting an image including first and second locating lines for substantially eliminating the introduction of visual parallax error. In one preferred form, the optical unit is incorporated into a machine for performing a forming operation on a workpiece and is operative to project an image of a portion of a scale to a position easily read by the user during machine operation. The optical unit includes a prism portion having a first side disposed adjacent the scale, a second side at an angle to the first side for reflecting the image and a third side through which the projected image may be viewed. The first locating line is disposed on the first side and the second locating line is disposed on the third side such that visual alignment eliminates the introduction of visual parallax error associated with reading a scale.

    Abstract: A carrier (12) is laterally displaceable on the feed table (2) of the machine on a track (13) slidable in a track bed (11), the lateral position being adjustable by means of an acutating means (16) connected to a spindle. Lower and upper woodworking units (9, 10), each having a tool spindle (3, 5) supported at both ends and tools (4, 6) disposed thereon, e.g., planers, groovers, and/or profile cutters, are removable together with bearing housings (7) after disengaging securing means (21) and replaceable, e.g., by woodworking units equipped with other tools. The tool spindle (3, 5) is separable from the bearing housings (7) for exchanging the tools (4, 6). For ease in removing and replacing the lower woodworking unit (9), the carrier can be pulled completely out of the machine at one side. For adjusting optimum cutting, the lower woodworking unit can be vertically positioned as regards the overhang of the tools relative to the working surface (1) of the feed table.

    Abstract: The machine for trimming pieces of wood, such as a surfacing, planing or other machine, comprises a rotary tool having a tool holder provided with projecting axially extending blades and adapted to machine at least one surface of the piece of wood. This tool has, on the input side and output side thereof, two driving rollers for driving the pieces of wood. These rolls have axes parallel to the axis of the tool and are connected to rotate with the latter by a speed reducing mechanism. The mechanism employs a sun and planet train one of the sun wheels of which is mounted directly on the shaft of one of the driving rollers. Another sun wheel is freely rotatable on this shaft and is prevented from rotating relative to the frame of the machine.

    Abstract: This invention relates to a combination planar molder for wood products. A support framework mounts a removable shaft for mounting either a planing knife or a molding bit. The shaft is mounted in bearing means at least one of which is pivotal about its housing so as to permit the shaft to be raised and lowered at an angle and slipped laterally for insertion and removal. This allows one shaft to be utilized for the planing head and a separate shaft to be utilized for a molding head. This eliminates time consuming balancing of the shaft as a result of changing a conventional planing head into a molding head.
