The body defines holes from the chip boxes to the outer surface of the body, said holes communicating with grooves formed along the outer surface of the body such that a continuous air passage is formed circumferentially around the body by each hole and respective groove. The air passages cool the cutter bit as well as quickly remove material chips from the cutting edge and workpiece. The rapid removal of the chips also allows a better view of the cutting edge and the workpiece. The lack of material in the holes and grooves reduces cutter bit weight, allowing use with smaller motors and reducing the loads associated with cutting operations.

A fastener extends through the first and second aperture to fasten the tooth to the block.

  • Patent number: 6698477
Abstract: A stump grinding apparatus having a split cutting wheel includes several replaceable cutter blocks secured to the periphery of the wheel. One or more replacement teeth are removably anchored in holes in each block and may also be mounted on holes in the side of the split wheel as well. The teeth are typically provided with a hardened cutting face, and are reinforced with an extension projecting back from the face. Each tooth includes a shank which fits into one of the holes. The shank contains a groove which receives a spring clip or a spring pin for securing the tooth in the hole. The wheel periphery contains individual recesses that are shaped to receive the cutter blocks. Each block includes means for insuring alignment of the block in the corresponding recess. The block is wedged tightly into its recess to reduce the likelihood of accidental removal.

Abstract: A tip for a rotary debarker has a polygonal main body with a front surface and a rear surface, and at least one cutting blade along each of the opposed edges. The main body includes a non-circular mounting boss extending from the rear surface. The main body is mounted to a tip holder that has a non-circular seat for receiving the non-circular mounting boss. The non-circular mounting boss and seat restrict relative movement between the tip and the holder during cutting operations. The tip is reversible relative to the holder to provide two operative cutting blades per tip.

Abstract: Single-edged wood chipper blades which can be repeatedly removed from a wood chipper and sharpened, as needed, to prevent the need for disposing of multiple conventional blades over a prolonged period of repeated use. Each of the replaceable blades typically includes a blade mount base for engaging a rotary chipping head of the chipper, a clamp plate for engaging the blade mount base, and a blade body interposed between the blade mount base and the clamp plate. A blade edge is shaped in the front end of the blade body, and extends from between the blade mount base and the clamp plate. A blade babbitt is provided in the rear end of the blade body. Accordingly, the blade body can easily and repeatedly be removed from between the blade mount base and the clamp plate and sharpened, and again secured in place between the blade mount base and the clamp plate, as needed for optimum and economical operation of the chipper over a prolonged period.

Abstract: A cutter unit includes two positioning bars mounted securely in a retaining groove of a rotating axle to define a cutter-receiving chamber therebetween. A cutter positioning block is disposed in the chamber. A first side face of the cutter positioning block is formed with a cutter-holding recess to receive a cutter. The recess is defined by a recess-confining wall with two opposing wall portions abutting against two end faces of the cutter. A side face of the cutter is disposed outwardly of the recess. An adjusting unit is disposed between and abuts against a second side face of the cutter positioning block and one of two wall portions of the retaining groove, and is adjustable to move the cutter positioning block and the cutter so as to press the cutter against the other one of the wall portions of the retaining groove.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a wood-milling cutter. A circular cutter head includes a plurality of semicircular engaging grooves at the rim thereof for receiving a plurality of hilts with corresponding arched surface. A semicircular screw hole is formed in the middle of the top rim of the semicircular engaging grooves. A blade is received at the bottom of said hilt. A semicircular cavity corresponding to the semicircular screw hole of the cutter head is provided in the middle of the top of the hilt and equipped with an annular flange. Therefore, the semicircular screw hole and the semicircular cavity form a full circular hole to receive a trimming screw with an annular groove in the middle thereof. The annular flange of the semicircular cavity is engaged in the annular groove of the trimming screw while the threaded member of the trimming screw joins the semicircular screw hole of the semicircular engaging grooves.
