  • Patent number: 7481051
Abstract: A tree felling machine has a main pump for operating functions of the machine such as the drive wheels or tracks, the steering, the brakes, and the lifting and extension of the boom, and a separate saw pump for driving the cutting element, for example, a circular disc saw driven by a hydraulic motor. Both pumps are driven by the same prime mover, i.e. the same internal combustion engine, and the power division between the two pumps is determined by the operator and by the hydraulic control system. In particular, a control provided in the cab is controllable by the human operator to limit the maximum power that the saw pump can draw from the prime mover. In addition, the power that the saw pump can draw from the prime mover is limited by a combination of the displacement setting of the main pump, the output pressure of the saw pump, and the pressure exerted on the load by the main pump.

  • Patent number: 7237585
Abstract: A metal frame having at least one wheel attached in a way that permits the frame to be moved from one location to another. Attached to the frame is a chain saw that can be used in more than one cutting position using remote controls attached to the metal frame and controlled by the operator. The operator controls the saw's cutting position either vertically or horizontally with a tension rope that moves the saw to the desired cutting position. The saw's throttle is controlled by a flexible cable attached to a throttle assembly at the saw and a handle attached to the right side of the metal frame allowing the operator to control the cutting speed of the chain saw from high rpm to idle speed.

  • Patent number: 7152640
Abstract: A tree cutting attachment for a skid steer loader. The attachment comprises a universal mounting plate by which the attachment quickly and simply is removably attachable to the loader. A circular saw blade is supported at the end of a non jointed arm that extends forwardly from the mounting plate. A hydraulically driven, direct drive motor is supported on the forward end of the arm above the blade and an overhung load adapter may be interposed between the motor and the blade. The blade is mounted for rotation on a vertical axis and preferably is a circular blade with a toothed edge. Leaving the cutting edge of the blade exposed about its entire periphery allows the blade to approach and cut upstanding trees from three sides. A brush guard, preferably of expanded metal, extends upwardly from the arm high enough to protect the operator of the loader.

  • Patent number: 7121310
Abstract: An apparatus for cutting wooden piles underwater and a method of use are disclosed. The apparatus has a frame and brace configured for engaging a pile. A pressure medium activated cutting device is connected to the frame and oriented at an angle such that a pile can be cut at a point below the bottom surface. The frame and brace are placed on opposite sides of the pile and connected to each other with a chain or cable. The apparatus has lines attached thereto and the other ends of the lines are attached to a boat or other flotation device. Using the disclosed apparatus to remove pilings causes significantly less turbidity than devices or methods currently available. Additionally, using the disclosed device also eliminates the need to decontaminate silt removed from the water using the currently available methods or devices.

  • Patent number: 7096900
Abstract: A tree cutting attachment for a skid loader or other types of self-propelled work vehicles to be used at construction and landscaping sites. The device is used to cut down brush and trees of up to about 12 inches in diameter. The tree cutting attachment is made up of a motor driven rotor assembly which is journaled within a frame of the attachment. The rotor assembly comprises a cage-like mounting system having pockets in which tempered steel blades, approximately ten inches in width are bolted in a side-by-side relation. Two rows of blades are mounted 180 degrees apart proximate the periphery of a rotor comprised of a series of parallel, generally circular plates that are welded to longitudinally extending rods. The knife blade elements are bolted to the blade holders with the non-sharpened end of the blade elements abutting a flat steel bar that forms part of the cage.

  • Patent number: 7086435
Abstract: A tree harvesting apparatus and method is particularly adapted for use in crowded housing and industrial areas where there is concern for relatively heavy cut tree portions causing damage when allowed to free fall to the ground. The tree harvesting apparatus and method enables a cut portion of a tree such as a tree top to be weighed after being cut but before it is lowered or allowed to free fall to the ground dependent on its weight. A camera mounted on the harvesting apparatus enables the cutting and weighing operation to be observed by an operator on the ground. The tree harvesting apparatus mounts on the outer end of a boom which in turn mounts on a turntable which can rotate 360°, thus making the apparatus and method useful for harvesting a plurality of trees from one location of the apparatus.
