  • Publication number: 20030150544
Abstract: A self-seal tire according to the present invention has a puncture sealing layer located all over a tire inner wall surface from one shoulder portion to the other shoulder portion of a pneumatic tire. The puncture sealing layer comprises at least one band-shape seal layer, which includes a band-shape sponge layer and a bonding layer, the band-shape sponge layer being impregnated with an adhesive so that it is exposed on a tier wall surface side face of the band-shape sponge layer and spaced apart from a tire counter wall surface side face thereof, and the bonding layer being made of adhesive and provided on the tire wall surface side face. The band-shape seal layer is bonded through the bonding layer on the tire inner wall surface with the band-shape seal layer being wound in a circumferential direction of the tire.

  • Patent number: 6579389
Abstract: A method of improving high-speed radial force variation of a pneumatic tire is disclosed. The tread portion is provided on the radially inner surface with an elastic patch. The weight and position of the patch determined based on (A) a low-speed fundamental RFV or (B) a low-speed fundamental RRO or (C) a weight imbalance of the tire. In case (A), the position is a point of the minimum low-speed fundamental RFV and the weight is {(F×TR)/332}×1000×a1. In case (B), the position is a point of the minimum low-speed fundamental RRO and the weight is {(RO×TR)/332}×1000×a2. In case (C), the position is a light weight position and the weight UB×(RR/TR)×a3. Here, TR is the radius in meter of the tire, F is the maximum variation of the low-speed fundamental RFV, RO is the maximum variation of the low-speed fundamental RRO, RR is the radius of the wheel rim, UB is the tire imbalance, a1 is coefficient in a range of from 0.5 to 3.

  • Patent number: 6487900
Abstract: The method of designing a bead flange profile (24) for a pneumatic tire (30) to be mounted on a design rim (40) as specified for the tire size has the steps of (a) selecting a design rim and a cured tire construction and bead profile (33); (b) predicting or measuring the tire deformation upon mounting and inflation; (c) analyzing the deformation to show the compressed beat seat profile (23) and the bead flange profile (24) contacting the rim flange; (d) identifying any gaps between the tire (30) and the rim (40); (e) modifying the tire's bead flange profile (24) to eliminate any gaps by moving selected points on the bead flange profile (24) in proportion to the local gap sizes; (f) shifting all modified points axially inward by a distance so that the molded base width remains the same as the original profile (24); and then (g) smoothing the connections between the modified portion and the rest of the bead profile (33).

  • Publication number: 20020000275
Abstract: A method and composition for equalizing radial and lateral forces at the tire/road footprint of a pneumatic tire due to tire/wheel assembly imbalance, non-uniformity of the tire, temporary disturbances in the road surface, or other vibrational effects of the unsprung mass of a vehicle by balancing the tire and inserting a particle mixture into the interior of the tire. The composition used therefor is a dry solid particle mixture wherein the particles are freely flowable and non-tacky at temperatures up to 150° C. The particle mixture is essentially devoid of liquid material, stable and remains free flowing over all conditions of tire usage, has a specific gravity greater than 1, and is available in the particle sizes of 20-200 mesh size, and has sufficient hardness to withstand the repeating tumbling which will occur in a vehicle tire without substantial abrasion.
