  • Patent number: 9487050
Abstract: The invention relates to a tire having a rubber tread comprised of cap/base construction where the tread outer cap rubber layer contains the running surface of the tread and the tread base rubber layer underlies the tread cap layer wherein the base layer provides a transition zone between the tread cap layer and the remainder of the tire carcass and is not intended to be ground-contacting. For this invention, the tread base rubber layer is comprised of three distinct zones, namely a circumferential annular central rubber zone positioned between two lateral annular rubber zones. In one aspect, the rubber tread cap layer and zoned rubber tread base layer are co-extruded together to form an integral tread rubber composite.

Abstract: The present invention is based upon the unexpected finding that lignin can be incorporated into wire coat stock composition to improve metal to rubber adhesion. It has been further found that lignin can be used as a replacement in whole or in part for conventional rubber-to-metal adhesion promoters, such as cobalt materials which are conventionally used in wire coat stocks to attain and maintain needed rubber-to-wire adhesion properties. In fact, wire coat stocks that contain lignin provide more that adequate rubber-to-metal adhesion characteristics for typical applications, such as in tires, and maintain needed levels of adhesion over long periods of product service. For instance, high levels of rubber-to-metal adhesion are maintained under harsh conditions, such as exposure to elevated temperatures and high levels of humidity.

Abstract: First, a first belt ply is wound around an outer peripheral surface of a belt drum having a curvature so as to be formed as a tubular shape, and a rubber layer protruding to an outer side than an end portion in a width direction of a belt reinforcing layer is arranged in an outer periphery of an end portion in a width direction of the first belt ply. Further, a second belt ply which is narrower than the first belt ply is wound around an outer periphery of the second belt ply so as to be formed as a tubular shape, and a belt layer is formed in such a manner that the first belt ply and the second belt ply are laminated. The belt reinforcing layer is formed by spirally winding a rubber-coated reinforcing cord around an outer peripheral side of the formed belt layer, and an end portion in a width direction of the belt reinforcing layer is arranged in an outer side than the first belt ply.
