  • Patent number: 10072797
Abstract: Method for the production of a high-resistance tank has an initial stage in which a closed metal vessel is formed, followed by a second stage in which the walls of the vessel are subjected to a mechanical pre-tensioning treatment in both the axial and radial directions, up to a predetermined value. This mechanical treatment has a stage in which the tank is enclosed inside a mould of suitably larger dimensions. A liquid is then introduced in the tank and pressurized until the tank walls are dilated and stretched to a point where they encounter the mould inner surface. Subsequently, the outside of the tank is coated with one or more layers of composite material, so as to complete the construction of the tank, upon which a final auto-frettage treatment is carried out. The type of steel to be used is AISI 304, preferably in its more weldable AISI 304L version.

Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the manufacture of fiber-reinforced pressure vessels and the product produced therefrom. A vessel liner is wrapped with resin-impregnated fibers and cured according to conventional technology. The cured, fiber-wrapped liner is then subjected to a pre-treatment process comprising both elevated temperature and pressure over time. The elevation in temperature allows the resin to soften. The increased pressure imparts a tensile load in the fibers. The tensile load causes fibers to stretch and straighten in the resin. After cooling to typical operating temperatures, and when pressurized for duty, the now straightened fibers are capable of responding immediately to the tensile load and the burst strength of the vessel is increased as a result. The process can be combined with autofrettage in series or simultaneously to achieve even greater final strength.

In the process a) the plastic tape is permanently stretched, the permanently stretched tape is arranged around the articles to be bundled and/or fixated, and the ends of the tape are bound together; or b) the plastic tape is permanently stretched, one of its ends is then fixed, and thereafter the permanently stretched plastic tape is arranged around the articles to be bundled and/or fixated, and the other of its ends is fixed; and/or c) one of the ends of the plastic tape is fixed, the plastic tape is permanently stretched and arranged around the articles to be bundled and/or fixated, and the other of its ends is fixed.

  • Patent number: 5720834
Abstract: A pipeline is covered with a continuous wrapping sheet having heat-activatable adhesive on its inner side. The wrapping may be helically applied or may be heat shrunk to impart a circumferential stress conforming the wrapping tightly to the surface of the pipe. High frequency induction heating is applied to cause the adhesive to wet and bond to the pipe surface. The wrapping can be applied progressively and continuously along a pipeline excavated from the ground while the pipeline is in service. The product conveyed within the pipe assists in rapidly cooling the adhesive and wrapping sheet so that the pipe can be promptly relaid in the ground.

  • Patent number: 5683525
Abstract: The invention is a sidewall for a cargo vessel having a seamless, snag-free interior liner. The wall includes an exterior skin that is rivetted to a first side of a supporting sidepost, and a seamless, snag-free interior liner that is mounted to the second side of the sidepost. The method for making the sidewall includes rivetting the exterior skin to the first side of the supports, and then gluing the seamless interior liner material to the second side of the supports with or without tension, and so that the interior liner is not at all pierced by fasteners, or only pierced in areas that are not likely to contact cargo. In a preferred embodiment, the interior liner is mounted to the second side of the supports under tension to maximize the interior liners' ability to absorb and deflect cargo impact and remain snag-free, sag-free and puncture resistant.

  • Patent number: 5581870
Abstract: The apparatus includes a stand for mounting a mandrel against rotation and a winding assembly for disposition within the mandrel. The mandrel has a slot for receiving a flat sheet through a side wall of the mandrel. A clamping mechanism on the winding assembly clamps the leading edge to the winding assembly within the mandrel. By winding the assembly, the flat sheet is drawn into the mandrel and formed into an arcuate configuration. The mandrel with curved sheet is removed from the stand and disposed in an oven for setting the plastic material in the curved configuration whereby the flat sheet is preformed into a radius approximating the radius of the rotational part about which the insulation will be installed.

  • Patent number: 5385621
Abstract: A plurality of helically wound tire beads are made by winding them on a forming wheel at two predetermined tension levels. The tension levels are generated by a braking pulley and magnetic particle brake in conjunction with a programmable logic controller. The first few turns of wires are made at a relatively low tension level. Subsequent turns are made at a higher tension level. The lower tension level contributes to longer life of the forming wheel assembly.

Abstract: Means for unitizing objects, e.g., packages, through the use of a stretchable, detackifiable, pressure-sensitive adhesive tape. In the preferred embodiment, the tape comprises a highly extensible, substantially non-recoverable backing bearing on at least one major surface thereof a layer of pressure-sensitive adhesive. This tape has the dual capability of (1) being capable of being firmly bonded to a substrate and (2) being detackified after being stretched.

  • Patent number: 5295216
Abstract: An improved fiber optic panel having a desired illumination pattern is assembled from at least two partial panels, each comprising a plurality of fully terminated parallel fibers. Two or more such partial arrays are combined to fabricate a optical fiber substrate having an arbitrary illumination pattern. The non-illuminated fiber lengths extending from the individual fiber terminations are removed before the two partial arrays are assembled, thus further enhancing the efficiency of the device. In a preferred embodiment the fibers of each partial array have a center-to-center spacing slightly greater than twice the fiber diameters, and the fibers of the two partial arrays are intermeshed to form a closely packed parallel array of fibers in which a fully terminated shorter fiber is located between two longer fibers.

  • Patent number: 5144739
Abstract: Dynamoelectric machines characterized by lengthened ground potential leakage current paths, desirable mechanical conformations, mechanical integrity when subjected to expected centrifugal forces, and ease of manufacture. One process involves establishing an extended path for commutator leakage currents with a path extending structure, establishing a cantilevered insulation skirt about the in-board or armature coil end of a commutator, and securely fastening such skirt to the commutator. The material utilized in making the skirt is one: that has electrical properties that permit it to withstand leakage currents without tracking; that for practical purposes is non-burnable, so as to resist flashovers or sparking; and that has the ability to withstand elevated temperatures that are encountered within dynamoelectric machine. The skirt is provided with openings therein and sandwiched between two glass based bands that adhere to another through the openings and thus lock the skirt in place on the commutator body.
