  • Patent number: 11319133
Abstract: The construction and design of new multi-laminate sheet materials for the fabrication of shipping containers, boxes, furniture, consumer items, and many other products, including those generally using panels in their design, is disclosed. These new materials are produced by employing advanced folding techniques, to yield lightweight, cost effective multi-laminates. At least one layer in the multi-laminate structure is a folded sheet tessellation which, in some embodiments, can have doubly periodic folded geometries with fold creases in multiple non-parallel directions. The various layers of the construction can interlock with each other to collectively provide mechanical stiffness, strength, energy absorption and other properties.

  • Patent number: 10894282
Abstract: A tool for manufacturing blanks and a process for stacking and destacking the blanks in a production line are provided. The tool is incorporated into a blanking die used to trim a metal sheet and form the blanks. When the blanks are stacked, the destacking formations provide gaps between the adjacent blanks. The gaps provide an entry to blast air and thus reliably separate the blanks for pick up, so that only one blank is picked up at a time. The tool includes a deforming unit that has an engagement element for pressing deformations into the metal sheet. The deformations are pressed adjacent to at least one edge of the metal sheet so that when the metal sheet is trimmed, and the blanks are stacked, they are spaced by the deformations by adjacently stacked blanks.

  • Patent number: 9096027
Abstract: A preform is formed by stacking core elements that are coated with prepregs. By heating the preform at a temperature at which the core elements do not thermally shrink, the prepregs are preliminarily hardened, and prepregs that are in contact with each other are caused to adhere to each other. Then, the prepregs are definitively hardened and the core elements are thermally shrunk by heating the preform at a temperature at which the core elements thermally shrink.

  • Patent number: 5543204
Abstract: A bi-directionally corrugated sandwich construction for use in applications equiring high-strength, light-weight components is disclosed. The sandwich construction comprises first and second face sheets positioned essentially parallel to and spaced apart from each other and having a core therebetween. The core has two sets of corrugated strips which have planar peaks and troughs positioned at regular intervals. The strips of the first set are positioned parallel to and spaced apart from each other with the peaks and the troughs in phase with each other such that parallel rows of troughs are formed perpendicular to the strips. The strips of the second set are positioned parallel to each other with the peaks and troughs in phase with each other, and are positioned perpendicular to the first set of strips in the rows of troughs formed thereby.

Abstract: A wick layer is attached and fixed to one surface of a metal tape without forming a gap with the metal surface, and thereafter, the tape is rolled so that the surface having the wick layer serves as an inner surface, thus forming a pipe shape, then the pipe wall is corrugated. According to the above process, the wick layer is completely and uniformly attached to the inner surface of the heat pipe.

Abstract: For embossing a metal foil the same is passed between two similarly toothed rollers positioned so that the teeth of each roller engages the teeth of the other. A high-quality embossing is obtained which may be kept practically constant over long periods of operation. The rollers are mutually synchronized such that only one of these rollers need be coupled with a driving mechanism. The other roller is free and may easily be removed, replaced or adjusted in order to vary the force by which it is pressed against the foil and the driven roller respectively.

  • Patent number: 4871406
Abstract: A corrugated paperboard, manufactured with a layer of plastic film approximately 1-3 mil thickness, is laminated to the single face liner of single face board in the double-backer. The board has good moisture vapor transmission (MVT) properties for packaging food and chemical products. The film is supplied in roll form and reeved over a dewrinkling roll device to smooth it, then fed onto the single face liner as the single face corrugated is fed into the nip of the double-backer. The lamination of the film is made by the residual heat from the paper and pressure of the double-backer belt in the drying section of the corrugator without adding adhesives or other compounds. The film is a thermoplastic co-extruded polymeric film, e.g. high density polyethylene (HDPE), polypropylene, PET, having a heat seal layer thereon of a copolymer of olefin with Alpha-Beta monoethylenically unsaturated monomer, e.g., ethylene acrylic acid (EAA).

  • Patent number: 4544436
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for laminating two webs of corrugating medium to produce a composite corrugating medium for the manufacture of corrugated fiberboard. The method essentially consists of the steps of (a) applying a coat of a water-soluble adhesive onto one side of at least one web of a first and second corrugating medium; (b) conveying the first and second corrugating medium over the surface of a first heating cylinder such that the water-soluble adhesive is between the first and second corrugating medium to join them together into a loosely bound composite corrugating medium, wherein heat is applied to one surface of said composite corrugating medium through the first heating cylinder; and (c) passing the opposite surface of the composite corrugating medium to a second heating cylinder to subject the composite to a second heating step. The present invention contemplates an apparatus for carrying out this invention.

Abstract: In a single-face corrugator of the type in which the corrugated paper is held by suction against the lower corrugated cylinder, the latter includes, outside its inner chamber filled with saturated heating vapor, separate longitudinal channels in the peripheral body of the cylinder. Each channel is connected to the exterior via axial channels and elongate grooves machined in the periphery of the cylinder, and can be connected to a suction apparatus via two hollow and sealed circular arcuate sectors bearing on the part of the face of the cylinder associated with the holding region on the latter. The grooves are staggered and machined in circumferential portions of the periphery of the cylinder so as to extend over several corrugations thereof. An additional blowing sector permits detachment of the corrugated paper.
