Abstract: An anti-fogging tray is obtained by coating a styrenic resin sheet with an anti-fogging agent to mold a tray. The anti-fogging agent comprises 1 to 50 parts by weight of a non-ether-series hydrophilic polymer excluding a polyvinyl alcohol (e.g., a polyvinylpyrrolidone), 5 to 150 parts by weight of an ether-series hydrophilic polymer (e.g., polyoxyethylene-polyoxypropylene block copolymer, and a nonionic surfactant having an oxyethylene unit), and 1 to 50 parts by weight of a silicone oil relative to 100 parts by weight of a polyhydric alcohol fatty acid ester (e.g., a sucrose fatty acid ester, a polyglycerin fatty acid ester). A coating layer comprising a surface-treating agent may be formed on one side of the resin sheet, and a mold-releasing layer containing a component selected from the ether-series hydrophilic polymer and the silicone oil may be formed on the other side of the resin sheet.

  • Patent number: 7052761
Abstract: A balanced dimensionally stable laminate uses a web carrier which is removably attached to a layer of the laminate during lamination and processing. The web carrier maintains dimensional stability of the layers of the laminate during lamination and processing and after removal of the web carrier. The web carrier is removed if at all only after the laminate is formed and processed. The bonding force of the web carrier with at least one of the polymers layer resists forces which would otherwise dimensionally distort the layers of the laminate or design features thereof during lamination, particularly in thermal roll-forming lamination. The layers of the laminate, which may include print and texture design features, remain dimensionally stable after removal of the web carrier. The web carrier can be removed at any time prior to or after final application of the laminate to a substrate.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is a trough-edge building panel used in the fabrication of panelized wall systems with elastomeric joints that are resistant to cracking. The panels are preferably fiber cement. The front surface of each panel has a trough adjacent to an edge of the panel. Panels are fastened to a frame with the trough-edges adjacent to each other. A joint tape is applied to the seam between the panels such that the edges of the joint tape fall within the troughs of the adjacent panels. The wall is then finished with an elastomeric finish. Also disclosed is a method of manufacturing the trough-edge panels.

Abstract: A card embossing system for embossing information onto a sheet of material prior to cutting individual cards from the sheet is disclosed. Information is embossed onto the sheet in a pattern of rows and columns. Information on adjacent columns is offset relative to one another. When individual cards are cut from the sheet, they are collected in a receiving tray having a plurality of cells arranged in a pattern of rows and columns such that adjacently stacked cards have embossing which is offset from one another. This prevents nesting of cards and allows for improved feeding from a hopper into a machine for further processing, such as printing or embossing individualized information on each card.

Abstract: Method for producing an embossing roller from silicone rubber for the continuous embossing of the surface of a thermoplastic film, with the embossing surface having a negative form of a surface structure to be embossed. An auxiliary roller is provided which is plastic, at least in the region of its circumferential surface. A laser beam is directed onto the circumferential surface and controlled for defining a real imaginary pattern in such a way that a surface structure of the pattern is created as a positive form on the surface. A layer of silicone rubber provided on the surface produces an embossing matrix which is pulled off the surface, turned inside out, and adhered to a surface of an embossing roller, with the negatively structured embossing surface facing outward. Thus, multiple embossing matrices can be created after a one-time structuring of the surface of an auxiliary roller, using a casting process.

Abstract: A range of damage and wear-susceptible articles, including such as drinkware and flatware, and heat-susceptible articles, have a tough, protective plastic coating applied in sealing, protective relation with a surface portion. The protective coating may hermetically seal underlying decorative material, including toxic materials. Digital ink jet printing may be applied directly or by transfer, including pad transfer. A plastic undercoating incorporating an adhesion promoting additive may first be applied by DIJ printing or by flow coating. The impact resistance of drinking glasses can be improved ten-fold with a hard, visually undetectible 5-mil outer coating selected from polyesters and other polymers, polyurethanes and acrylates having the desired visual, toughness and bonding characteristics. With u.v. curing, high speed economic automated line production, the process is applicable to a wide range of articles.

  • Patent number: 6638387
Abstract: A method of producing embossed-in-register building products. Reference edges are milled on a board. A resin soaked paper having a decorative motif is located on that board using the reference edges as a guide such that the decorative motif has a predetermined position relative to the reference edges. The board and paper are then located in a press machine having a press plate with a three dimensional surface that is registered with the decorative motif. The press plate presses into the board and paper at a predetermined pressure and predetermined temperature to set the resin, producing a final product. Resin and paper parameters are carefully controlled. The press plate is manufactured such that the plate's surface registers with the decorative motif when the press plate is hot. Appropriate hollowing and milling of the board can even out pressure distributions and to provide a completely closed surface without porosity.

  • Patent number: 6630094
Abstract: A tear-resistant flexible hinge structure is placed between a pair of substantially rigid panels so as to permit the panels to be hinged one with respect to the other, where the flexible hinge is formed from a plastics material such as polyvinyl chloride. The hinge structure is formed under heat and pressure so as to comprise at least three parallel rows of alternating flat and raised portions, in staggered relationship. This causes a structure whereby any rip or tear which starts in the formed flexible hinge cannot continue because it will encounter a discontinuity in the configuration and thickness of the material, which precludes further propagation of the rip or tear. Typically, after the hinge structure has been formed, it is configured in a semi-circular cross section, re-heated and cooled, so as to set and have a memory in its closed configuration as opposed to the originally pre-formed flat, open configuration.
