Publication number: 20020038686Abstract: This invention provides a method and apparatus for applying tape tabs to a traveling web, for example, for placement of fastening tabs on a running web of disposable diapers. The invention provides a cutting roll positioned to cut segments from a continuous infeeding web of tape material against a rotating anvil. The anvil, which is traveling at a speed equal to or very close to that of the infeeding tape web, carries the tape segments to a point on its tangency where a higher-speed traveling diaper web most nearly approaches, at which point the traveling diaper web is displaced slightly toward the anvil by means of a protuberance acting against the web. This movement causes it to come into contact with the next available tape segment, which becomes adhered to the higher-speed traveling web. This process provides for operation at higher speeds, higher efficiencies, greater flexibility and lower noise levels than previous processes.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 31, 2001Publication date: April 4, 2002Applicant: Curt G. Patent number: 6334923Abstract: A method of making multiple laminated shingles from a single sheet of roofing material. When four shingles are to be made, the sheet is cut into five strips, namely first and second double shims, first and second single tooth strips, and a double tooth strip. Each double shim is then laminated below the tooth portion of a single tooth strip and the tooth portion at one side of a double tooth strip, to produce a single lamination strip. The lamination strip is then slit lengthwise and crosscut by a single conventional shingle cutter to produce four sets of shingles across the width of the lamination strip. The process can produce other numbers of shingle sets. In all cases, the various strips needed are, after being cut, reassembled into a single lamination strip so that they can be slit and crosscut by a single standard shingle cutter.Type: GrantFiled: October 4, 1999Date of Patent: January 1, 2002Assignee: IKO Industries Ltd.Inventor: Henry Koschitzky

Patent number: 6235142Abstract: A method of making a multi-layer laminated shingle, in which a sheet of roofing material is cut into four strips, namely a shim strip, a first narrow tooth strip, a wide tooth strip, and a second narrow tooth strip, all dovetailing with each other. The shim is then laminated below the wide tooth strip to produce a first lamination. The first lamination is slit lengthwise along its center to produce two half first lamination strips. Each half first lamination strip is then laminated below a narrow tooth strip to produce two three layer lamination strips which are cross-cut into shingles. This enables production of a three layer laminated shingle simply and efficiently. In a modified method, two shim strips are used, one at each side of the sheet of roofing material, each being laminated below the wide tooth strip to produce a first lamination as before.Type: GrantFiled: July 21, 1999Date of Patent: May 22, 2001Assignee: IKO Industries Ltd.Inventor: Henry Koschitzky

A method for manufacturing the reclosable plastic zipper includes the steps of extruding a zipper profile, treating a portion of its surface, preferably by corona discharge, applying an adhesive to the treated portion, slitting the profile lengthwise, and folding over one of the resulting sides of the zipper to interlock them with one another.Type: GrantFiled: April 22, 1993Date of Patent: June 20, 1995Inventors: George Rasko, Lawrence Share

Patent number: 5389174Abstract: A method of making an improved fragrance-releasing sampler designed to prevent individuals from being unknowingly or involuntarily exposed to the fragrance. Preferably, the steps of the method are performed on a continuous moving web of material by in-line finishing equipment associated with a web offset printing press. The method includes applying slurry of adhesive and fragrance-containing microcapsules to a location on a moving web of material; longitudinally folding a margin of said moving web of material onto said slurry, or positioning a second web of material onto the location of said slurry; partially cutting around said slurry to define a removable element; and transversely severing the continuous moving web of material into individual fragrance-releasing samplers having a removable element carrying a fragrance which can be activated by separating said removable element from said sampler and spreading the thicknesses of the removable element apart.Type: GrantFiled: April 27, 1993Date of Patent: February 14, 1995Assignee: The Lehigh Press, Inc.Inventors: Susan Hibsch, Sharon Rubar

Patent number: 5277732Abstract: Process an equipment for the production of an expanded honeycomb core from strips (10) coated at uniform intervals with strips of adhesive (6), in which the strips (10) with their adhesive strips (6) parallel and in staggered positions are stacked on top of one another and adhesively bonded together under pressure and if necessary at an elevated temperature, the stack (40) so formed being subsequently expanded, consists in the following: a strip (10) passes over a position detector (24), which from the adhesive strips (6) determines its position relative to a first end (P) of a stack (40), and which controls a positioning drive (25) and a cutting device (26). The positioning drive (25) positions the strip (10) relative to the stack (40) at its end (P), and the strip (10) is held fast.Type: GrantFiled: July 27, 1992Date of Patent: January 11, 1994Assignee: Alusuisse-Lonza Services Ltd.Inventor: Johannes Meier

Patent number: 5228936Abstract: A process and apparatus for making expandable honeycomb structures suitable for use as window coverings. In one embodiment, folded tubular strips with adhesive lines are fed continuously through a cutter which cuts them into predetermined lengths. The cut strips are then accelerated to a stacker for further processing before the next cut strip arrives. In another embodiment, webs of material are fed continuously in a downstream direction, adhesive lines are applied, a middle web is slitted into strips, and the strips bonded along opposite edges to the outer webs. By choosing for the outer webs transparent or porous material, and for the middle web opaque material, a light or air controlling honeycomb structure results.Type: GrantFiled: August 14, 1992Date of Patent: July 20, 1993Assignee: Hunter Douglas Inc.Inventor: William V. Patent number: 5055153Abstract: A business forms assembly and method of forming is provided wherein a continuous web defines a plurality of successive form sets and wherein the web is divided longitudinally by a slit indicator line to define adjacent form parts for each set. Carbonless transfer technology is employed, such that a back side or undersurface of one form part (the upper part) is coated with carbonless microcapsules, while a front side or upper surface of the adjacent form part (the lower part) is coated with a co-reactant resin coating. The arrangement permits variable information to be printed on the adjacent form parts as the web passes through a non-impact printer. Thereafter, the web is longitudinally slit, separating the adjacent form parts which are thereafter interstacked so that the coating on the undersurface of the upper form part lies in full surface engagement with the coating on the upper surface of the lower form part. The respective form parts may then be adhesively secured.Type: GrantFiled: March 9, 1990Date of Patent: October 8, 1991Assignee: Moore Business Forms, Inc.Inventor: Michael W. Anderson
