  • Patent number: 11633947
Abstract: A method of removing a backing layer from a panel, made of an uncured pre-impregnated fiber-reinforced polymer, comprises a step of orienting the panel into a backing-separation orientation relative to an edge-engagement tool. The method also comprises a step of positioning the panel into a backing-separation position relative to the edge-engagement tool. The method further comprises a step of moving the edge-engagement tool, when the panel is in the backing-separation orientation and the backing-separation position, so that backing-engagement features of the edge-engagement tool engage the backing layer, at only an edge portion of the backing layer, and just the edge portion of the backing layer separates from the panel. The method additionally comprises a step of gripping the edge portion of the backing layer, and, when gripped, moving the backing layer relative to the panel so that an entirety of the backing layer separates from the panel.

Abstract: The invention is directed to a preserved serial set of sequential, iterative, and ordered thin sections of a specimen block, and a catalog of images taken from one or more sub-series of the set of sections and organized so as to create a three-dimensional profile of the microscopic structures of the specimen block. The serial set of sequential, iterative, and ordered thin sections are prepared from the specimen block by cutting and imaging thin sections of that specimen block so that the thin sections remain strictly in the sequential, iterative, order in which they are cut from the specimen block. A spatial index is created from the cataloged three-dimensional images which is searchable by local content-based image retrieval (LCBIR). The LCBIR query is used to locate, within the three-dimensional index, microscopic structural features, thereby making that portion of the specimen available for further analysis and/or for extraction.

Abstract: A method for manufacturing an instructional booklet that folds away from a substrate. A multi-up book is provide having two or more booklets and a waste zone that share a common spine. The waste zone is adhered to a substrate that is larger than the booklets. An overlaminate is applied to secure the multi-up book to the substrate. The area between the booklets and the substrate is devoid of adhesive. Subsequently, the waste zone is die cut and removed along with the overlaminate and substrate leaving completed labels with booklets. The substrate can be adhered to a container without interference from the booklet. The booklet is held closed against the label by the overlaminate which extends beyond the substrate and booklet to adhere directly to the container.

Abstract: In a method of forming an identification card, a card substrate having a surface is provided. A film laminate comprising a backing layer and one or more dried transferable layers attached to the backing layer is provided. One of the transferable layers comprises a coating comprising an inorganic ceramic-like material and a water insoluble polymer binder. The film laminate is laminated to the surface of the card substrate such that an exposed surface of the one or more transferable layers adheres to the surface of the card substrate. The backing layer is then removed from at least a portion of the one or more transferable layers that remain adhered to the surface of the card substrate. Additional embodiments are generally directed to a method of protecting a surface of an identification card and identification card manufacturing devices for performing the methods.
