  • Patent number: 6179905
Abstract: Disclosed is a method for the preparation of a corrugating adhesive. The method includes the steps of partially depolymerizing a hemicellulose precursor that comprises the soluble phase of an extract obtained from a hemicellulose-containing plant source, and mixing the partially depolymerized hemicellulose with starch to form an adhesive composition. The adhesive composition of the invention exhibits superior shear stability properties as compared with prior art adhesive compositions that incorporate pasted starches, and exhibits superior green tack as compared with other hemicellulose-based adhesives. Also disclosed are a corrugated board and a method for preparing same.

  • Patent number: 6146484
Abstract: A method of constructing a honeycomb structure generally undetectable by radar. The method includes winding first and second sheets of radar absorbent material onto a central roller. A first printer prints a plurality of parallel adhesive linear deposits on the first sheet of material as it passes across the first printer. A second printer prints a plurality of parallel adhesive linear deposits on the second sheet of material as it passes across the second printer. The first and second linear deposits are offset with respect to each other. The first and second sheet materials overlap one another during winding onto the central roller. Once the first and second sheets are overlapped onto one another, the adhesive deposits secure sheets together to form a non-expanded honeycomb structure. The non-expanded honeycomb structure is removed from the central roller and is expanded to form the expanded honeycomb structure.

  • Patent number: 5951803
Abstract: A method of making printed circuit boards and components there of comprising laminating a sheet of copper foil and a sheet of aluminum or the like. A band of flexible adhesive joins the sheets around their borders and creates a protected central zone at the interface of the sheets. Islands of adhesive are located inwardly of the edges of the sheets through which tooling pin holes may be formed to facilitate handling of the foil. The boards are made by assembling a plurality of the components alternating between dielectric layers and layers of copper foil.

  • Patent number: 5942062
Abstract: A first sheet (10, 32, 56) is coated by a coater (47) with a pattern comprising a plurality of discrete domains (12, 34) of a low-viscosity adhesive and is then laminated to a second sheet (70) by a paired-roller laminator (62). The viscosity of the adhesive is sufficiently low and the pressure of the laminator sufficiently high that the plurality of adhesive domains (12) are caused to spread during lamination and to displace air from between the sheets, forming thereby a single domain of adhesive which just fills the space between the sheets without adhesive being extruded substantially beyond the edges of the sheets and without air bubbles or voids being entrapped between the sheets. In a preferred pattern, the domains (12) comprise stripes of adhesive with spaces (14) therebetween, the stripes being substantially parallel to the direction of lamination (16).

  • Patent number: 5916395
Abstract: A method for fabricating ceramic electronic parts allows external electrodes to be baked onto the electronic parts without overlaying powder on the sagger. An adhesive material layer is provided on a surface of a sagger on which electronic parts are placed. The sagger is inserted into a firing oven with the electronic parts adhesively fixed onto the adhesive material layer, whereby the external electrodes of the electronic parts are baked. The adhesive layer burns away during the firing process. The method including such steps eliminates the need of overlaying powder onto the sagger, so that no powder sticks to the external electrodes after baking, so that the process of removing powder is no longer necessitated.

  • Patent number: 5900109
Abstract: A method and apparatus for enveloping a series of absorbent cores with a fluid-permeable layer includes a first web supplying mechanism for providing a first layer of fluid-permeable material, and a depositing mechanism for positioning a series of absorbent cores on the first layer. Each of the absorbent cores defines a periphery thereof and includes superabsorbent material therein. A second web supplying means provides a second layer of fluid-permeable material to sandwich the absorbent cores between the first and second layers. A sealing mechanism secures the first layer to the second layer along an attachment region thereof which is located adjacent to at least a pair of side edge regions of the absorbent cores. The attachment region is constructed to substantially prevent movement of superabsorbent material from the absorbent cores through the attachment region.

  • Patent number: 5897722
Abstract: The process for applying labels to articles by first adhering a limited portion of the label to the article and subsequently rendering additional portions of the label adhesive so that they will adhere to the article after the label is affixed to the article. The leading and trailing edges of the label may be bonded to the article or each other to affix the label to a container or other such article. The portions of the label between the leading and trailing edges may be either provided with an adhesive agent that is in a non-adhesive state or be formed from a label material which is not normally adhesive but can be rendered adhesive through an additional process step. For example, coated polyethylene film can be applied to a container by means of a hot melt adhesive and then subsequently heated to a temperature at which the polyethylene material becomes adhesive causing it to stick to the container.

Abstract: A three dimensional cellular shade 20 attached to a roller. The cells 28 of the shade expand outward as the shade is unrolled. The shade is made from two sheets of fabric. One of the fabrics is decorative 24, the other fabric 22 is more functional. The decorative fabric 24 is longer in length than the functional fabric 22. The two fabrics are joined together along a plurality of joints 26 extending down the length of the shade. These joints are uniformly displaced from one another. The ratio of decorative fabric to functional fabric between any two joints is greater than one. This ratio is important for ensuring that the cells will expand outward as the shade is unrolled.

Abstract: The invention comprises a method for manufacturing a laminated pad in a cost-efficient manner. In one embodiment, the method comprises the steps of applying strips of adhesive to a first substrate and mounting the first substrate to a second substrate. Next, adhesive is applied to the entire width of a third substrate which is in turn mounted to the laminated first and second substrates to create a laminated sheet. The laminated sheet can be slit and then die cut into individual laminated pads. The pads which result from this process have a base pad, an intermediate layer which is adhered to the base pad and a top layer in which only a portion of the top layer is mounted to the intermediate layer.
