  • Patent number: 6098695
Abstract: A powered folding door, comprising several side-by-side door panels, includes a stabilizer that resists a reactive torque created by the inertial changes of a door panel that quickly accelerates and decelerates at the door's open and closed positions. A trolley, driven back and forth along the length of an overhead track by a long narrow drawbar, suspends one of the door panels about a swivel connection. As the door closes or folds open, the swivel allows the door panel to rotate about a vertical axis to facilitate the folding action of the door. The stabilizer extends rigidly from the trolley to slidingly or rollingly engage the track at a point beyond the vertical axis of the swivel to counteract the reactive torque. The stabilizer engaging a relatively sturdy track, prevents the trolley from transmitting the torque to the drawbar (which is much weaker than the track), and thus avoids bending the drawbar.

  • Patent number: 5659926
Abstract: A system for reinserting a dislodged roller of a movable overhead door and a bracket for accomplishing this result. A reinsertion bracket is positioned along both the vertical and horizontal portion of each side of a door track. The reinsertion bracket consists of a base plate and a pair of guide plates connected to the base plate at an acute angle. When a roller becomes dislodged from the wheel track, the forward or reverse movement of the overhead door will cause the roller and shaft to contact one of the guide plates of the reinsertion bracket. The guide plate contains a roller guide surface which directs the disengaged roller upward and inward until it is reinserted into the door track through a removed portion of the retaining ridge of the door track. The reinsertion bracket is resiliently mounted to the door track such that when a dislodged roller contacts the guide plate, the reinsertion bracket can flex to reinsert the roller within the door track.

  • Patent number: 5499671
Abstract: An anti-float system for operable partitions in a movable wall system. The anti-float system includes first and second camming assemblies, each including a trolley camming surface, cooperatively positioned along the operable partition track. Preferably both of the trolley camming surfaces are spring biased to camming positions where they define a passageway through which a portion of the trolley passes when the trolley moves along the track. The passageway is narrower than the width of the trolley portion. When the trolley portion enters the passageway while traveling in the wall extending direction, the trolley portion engages the trolley camming surfaces and forces the surfaces outward from their camming positions against a resistance provided by the biasing springs in order for the trolley to pass. The camming assemblies are also movable from a camming alignment to a retracted alignment when the trolley portion travels in the wall stacking direction through the passageway.

  • Patent number: 4694531
Abstract: A coupler for structurally joining opposing ends of overhead support rails is disclosed herein having a pair of elongated splice plates carried on opposite sides of the rail ends so as to overlap the abutment of the ends. Each splice plate of the pair is of substantially uniform cross section having a U-shaped channel section including a central, upright web terminating in transverse, parallel flanges. The upper flange is integrally formed with an upwardly extending flange parallel to but spaced apart from the upright web. Trapezoidal ribs extend externally of the channel section in parallel spaced relationship along the upper flange immediately adjacent to the web and along the web midway between the transverse flanges. Threaded bores provided in the ribs insertably receive fasteners for bearing against the respective rails. The configuration of each splice plate is conformal with the external configuration of the overhead support rails.

Abstract: Hardware for converting a door panel into a sliding door includes a pair of two-wheel trolley assemblies for supporting a door panel, a one piece track for attachment above a door opening, and a guide assembly for the bottom of the door panel for stabilizing the door when it is in the closed position. The track has running surfaces at 90.degree. to each other on which the wheels run. For use with doors for refrigerated rooms, one of the running surfaces has elevated portions for raising one wheel of each trolley. When on the elevated portions, the door panel is moved outwards from the door opening, thereby minimizing damage by the sliding panel to the door seals.

Abstract: This bracket and track assembly can be used for sliding door assemblies and facilitates the alignment and installation of such doors. The track includes a pair of spaced, inwardly facing channel-shaped track members, supported by a plurality of longitudinally spaced, U-shaped bracket members embracingly disposed about said track members. The upper portion of each bracket member includes a rotatably mounted locking clip and a pair of arcuate slots receiving opposed legs of the clip. The arcuate slots overlap the upper, inner edges of each track member so that the clip legs exert an outward force against the track members when the clip is rotated, tending to urge said track members into engagement with said bracket members.

  • Patent number: 4222427
Abstract: The invention provides a trim unit for use, for example, as a valance, or for application to sliding and bifold doors to screen the unsightly gap that usually is left between the bottom edge of the door supporting channel and the top edge of the door or doors. The unit consists of a U- or L-shaped base member having a first horizontal portion that is fastened in some convenient way to the ceiling or door header and a second vertical portion that extends downward when the unit is installed. A supplementary movable member is mounted on the second portion and can be adjusted in its vertical position thereon. Thus in the case of a door trim unit the supplementary member can be moved to screen the gap between the bottom edge of the channel and the top of the door without fouling the door as it is opened and closed. This gap cannot be predetermined and may be changed, e.g. when carpet is installed.
