  • Patent number: 9863827
Abstract: Collecting data includes generating a sensor signal from each of a plurality of sensors located on a sensing roll, wherein each signal is generated when each sensor enters a region of a nip between the sensing roll and mating roll during each rotation of the sensing roll; wherein a web of material travels through the nip and a continuous band, which also travels through the nip, contacts a region of the web of material upstream from or in the nip. A periodically occurring time reference is generated associated with each rotation of the continuous band and the signal generated by each sensor is received so that the one of the plurality of sensors which generated this signal is determined and one of a plurality of tracking segments associated with the continuous band is identified. The signal is stored to associate the respective sensor signal with the identified one tracking segment.

As a primary pressing member subject to concentrated force it is 0.040 inch thick. One or both opposed retarder members of a bladed microcreper are of the plastic. Thermoplastics meeting wear and friction limits, e.g. ultra high density polyethylene, are employed. Primary member extensions, some having openings, slots or holes serve as flexible retarders to engage treated material. Parallel slots, preferably formed by water jet cutting, defining machine-direction fingers provide particular advantages, often greatest when the fingers begin upstream of the creping cavity, and stated dimensional limits observed. By a load-spreading surface, the thermoplastic primary member is restrained without distortion. A primary member shown is sheet form, mounted between sheet metal members, one with a restraint surface. Sheet materials of polyolefins, wood pulp, etc.

Primary extensions, some having openings, slots or holes serve as flexible retarders to engage treated material. By a load-spreading surface, the thermoplastic primary member is restrained without distortion. By this surface being linear it slideably inserts into a mounting. By this surface being parallel to the roll axis the primary member is free for cross-machine thermal expansion. A primary member shown is sheet form, mounted between sheet metal members, one with a restraint surface. Sheet materials of polyolefins, wood pulp, etc.

Abstract: A swing paper machine configured to manufacture both wet crepe paper web having a moisture content of at least 20% and dry crepe paper web having a moisture content less than about 15%. The paper machine includes a Yankee dryer having a paper web positioned thereon, a creping doctor blade configured to remove the paper web from the Yankee dryer as either the wet crepe paper web or the dry crepe paper web, a first reel, at least one carrier web, and at least one dryer. The wet crepe paper web is carried by the at least one carrier web to the at least one dryer for reducing a moisture content of the wet crepe paper web. The wet crepe paper web bypasses engagement with the first reel. The dry crepe paper web engages the first reel and is wound into a parent roll. The paper machine is changeable between manufacture of wet and dry crepe paper web without altering a position of the first reel and the at least one carrier web relative to the Yankee dryer.

Abstract: Doctor blades are provided for multiple positions within a paper or board making machine. A single doctor blade of a standard length or a reel of doctor blade material has markings which permit a variety of doctor blade sizes to be readily cut. If a standard length doctor blade is used, the length of the blade is chosen to be at least as long as the longest doctor blade required for a particular papermaking machine. If the material is in a reel, the markings may be at regular numbered intervals. If a pattern of rivets is connected to the blade, and the rivets must have a given relationship with a blade holder, blade length may be marked out in such a way that some blade material is discarded in order to position the rivets when shorter blades are cut from the blade reel.

Abstract: A web of tissue is formed in a twin wire former, followed by an air press for water removal in the pressing section, passing onto a Yankee dryer. A headbox injects stock between upper and lower dryer fabrics brought together on a breast roll. The fabrics moves over vacuum boxes, and the web is heated with steam and passed between an upper pressure box and a lower vacuum box forming an air press which dewaters the web. A sheet transfer pickup vacuum box holds the sheet to the upper fabric as the lower fabric diverges from the upper fabric. A pressure roller transfers the web onto a Yankee dryer. The fabrics are cleaned on vertical runs before returning to the breast roll. A final forming fabric is arranged to operated at a lower speed than the penultimate forming fabric so that a rush transfer and creping like action takes place.

The method involves dividing the creping cylinder into Zones and then applying the desired Performance Enhancing Material on a Zone by Zone basis such that each Zone has the optimal Performance Enhancing Material present. Furthermore, a method to ascertain the amount and pattern of application of the Performance Enhancing Material used on the creping cylinder is described and claimed. This method involves adding an inert fluorescent tracer to said Performance Enhancing Material and then to use a fluorometer to look for the tracer on the creping cylinder, and/or on the creped tissue product and/or in the water removed from the felt.

  • Patent number: 7048828
Abstract: A tissue paper crimper of greater rigidity is provided by mounting crimper disks to linear bearings which in turn are mounted to a carriage which can be positioned in the cross machine direction on a frame. The crimper disks are pressed against anvil roll pneumatic actuators. The use of linear bearings allows the crimper to run at higher operating speeds. An air knife is positioned so that a jet of air following a Coanda surface periodically blows against the rotating crimping wheel and thereby removes fibers before they build up. Buildup of fibers on the crimping wheels from the tissue webs being crimped can cause the wheels to become unbalanced, resulting in undesirable vibration. The rigid mounting and the prevention of fiber buildup will allow the crimper of this invention to operate at higher machine speeds.
