  • Patent number: 11298744
Abstract: Disclosed are a continuous-curvature convex roll for continuously casting a bloom, and a manufacturing method therefore. An outer contour curve of a working portion of a body of the continuous-curvature convex roll contains a first straight-line segment (AB), a first transition curve segment (BC), an intermediate straight-line segment (CD), a second transition curve segment (DE) and a second straight-line segment (EF). The BC, the AB, and the CD have continuous first-order derivatives, continuous second-order derivatives, and continuous curvatures, thus forming a first transition curve with a continuous curvature. The BC and the DE are mirror-symmetrical. The continuous-curvature convex roll can uniformly deform a blank cast in a deformation area, thereby reducing cracks. The transition curve of the convex roll can be reduced, thereby being capable of further reducing a rolling pressure and the withdrawal resistance.

Abstract: Pinch roll apparatus has a pair of pinch rolls, each having a diameter between 300-1500 millimeters, positioned to form a nip through which metal strip can be continuously fed. The pinch rolls are positioned one above the other with the axes of the pinch rolls offset in the direction of travel of the strip, with the upper pinch roll offset positioned between 10 and 130 mm downstream of the direction of travel of the strip through the pinch rolls. A rotational drive counter-rotates the pinch rolls to cause strip to pass through the nip of the pinch rolls. A tilt drive tilts the upper pinch roll by a tilt between 0.5 and 5.0 mm to control steering of the strip passing through the pinch rolls. The steering of the tilt drive may be automatically controlled through a controller actuated by a sensor.

  • Patent number: 6945311
Abstract: In a method for vertical continuous casting of a steel band, a strand (11) of a parallelogram-like cross section is cast at first in a revolving chill-mold (2) and is thereafter transferred from said initial cross section with completely solidified longitudinal edges (10) and liquid core into a band (1) with plane-parallel cross section, this occurring in such a way that an already solidified shell (9) of the strand (11) which becomes increasingly thicker by cooling is increasingly compressed in the casting direction in a forming device (4) without upsetting deformation of the completely solidified longitudinal edges (10). In order to provide advantageous conditions it is proposed that after the compression into a band (1) the strand (11) with a still liquid core (16) is guided during the complete solidification of the core merely in a forming gap with a constant width corresponding to the thickness of the completely solidified longitudinal edges (10) and is calibrated in this process.
