With Sealing Feature (e.g., Packer) Patents (Class 166/387)
  • Patent number: 8733458
Abstract: A hydraulically set packer assembly actuated over an electronic line. The assembly includes a hydraulic packer setting mechanism that serves as an intensifier that is activated by way of an electronic trigger. As such, the trigger may be electronically coupled to an electronic line that is conventionally available for surface communications between surface equipment and a downhole gauge. The gauge generally present for monitoring well conditions such as pressure. Thus, a separate dedicated hydraulic or other powering line need not be outfitted as part of the assembly. Once more, for sake of gauge and well monitoring integrity, communications with the setting mechanism may be severed upon setting of the packer.

Shrinkage of the mandrel axially due to radial expansion brings a ring on the mandrel outer surface under the fingers to act as a support for the fingers against the seal which is pushed against the open hole. • Publication number: 20140034336
Abstract: A completion assembly for treating a wellbore. The completion assembly can include a tubular member having a bore formed axially therethrough and a port formed radially therethrough. An annulus can be disposed radially outward from the tubular member and the port can provide fluid communication between the annulus and the bore. A packer can be coupled to the tubular member and adapted to isolate first and second portions of the annulus. A seal bore can be coupled to the tubular member such that the port is disposed axially between the packer and the seal bore. A straddle seal can be adapted to contact the packer and the seal bore to prevent fluid flow between the annulus and the bore. The straddle seal can be run into the wellbore with the completion assembly in a single trip.

  • Patent number: 8636072
Abstract: A wellhead system comprising a seal with a restraining member adapted to cooperate with a housing to restrict axial movement of the seal. The seal is adapted to form a seal between the housing, such as a wellhead, and a tubular member, such as a casing hanger. The seal has a latch ring that is expanded outward as the seal is installed within the wellhead. Axial movement of the seal is restricted by engagement between the expanded latch ring and the inner profile of the housing. The seal and housing may be adapted so that a portion of the seal is received by a recess in the inner profile of the housing.

  • Publication number: 20140020912
Abstract: An apparatus for isolating a first zone from a second zone in a subterranean wellbore. The apparatus includes an outer tubular and an inner tubular disposed within the outer tubular forming an annular flow path therebetween that is in fluid communication with the first zone. The inner tubular defines a central flow path that is in fluid communication with the second zone. A sleeve having at least one seal is positioned in the annular flow path and is axially movable relative to the inner and outer tubulars between a closed position wherein the seal engages the inner tubular and an open position wherein the seal engages the outer tubular. A mandrel is slidably disposed within the inner tubular and is coupled to the sleeve. The mandrel is operable to shift the sleeve between the open position and the closed position responsive to changes in pressure within the central flow path.

  • Patent number: 8631878
Abstract: A ring like seal assembly for a wellhead assembly that seals between a pair of coaxial tubulars. The seal assembly includes a spring member for exerting an axial force on the seal. The spring member projects from an end of the seal assembly substantially parallel to the axis of the seal assembly and is compressed when installing the seal assembly between the tubulars. Compressing the spring member maintains an axial force on the seal assembly to keep the seal assembly radially deformed so that it can maintain sealing contact with both coaxial tubulars.
