Patent number: 7913885Abstract: An apparatus for securing and carrying an extension ladder on a pickup truck is designed so that the ladder rests on both the rear edge of the cab and the upper edge of the tailgate and on the ladder. The apparatus includes resilient pads which are secured to lower edges of the rails with straps to prevent damage to the cab and tailgate. A ladder retention bracket, which mounts on the ladder, has a generally L-shaped frame to which is attached a padded stop plate and at least one ladder indexing arm. The stop plate contacts the inner vertical surface of the tailgate and prevents the secured ladder from sliding rearward, while the ladder indexing arms prevent the ladder from shifting with respect to the ladder retention bracket. With the ladder properly positioned on the vehicle, it is tied or strapped to prevent forward, lateral and vertical movement.Type: GrantFiled: September 6, 2005Date of Patent: March 29, 2011Inventor: Jason Ron Long

Publication number: 20110047723Abstract: A closed-loop hydraulic control system that may arrest the motion of attached devices in the event of loss of electrical or hydraulic power or in the event of an emergency. Gangways from a ship to a platform and ladders on fire trucks may have hydraulic control systems that allow for free motion in several different directions in order to keep stability in rough waters or shifting ground. If the gangway or ladder begins to fall due to loss of hydraulic power or a failure in the securing of one end, the closed-loop control system may detect these situations and actuate the closing of valves to limit or stop the falling motion of the gangway or ladder. Various control or damping algorithms may be employed to yield a desired and controlled arresting of motion so as to prevent injury and damage.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 1, 2009Publication date: March 3, 2011Applicant: Lockheed Martin CorporationInventors: Corey Fleischer, Alexander Boon, William Kraft

The second telescoping assembly has a second stationary leg and a second movable leg. The second movable leg is movable with respect to the second stationary leg, wherein the support assembly slidably engages with the second movable leg. The pulley assembly operatively connects to the first telescoping assembly and to the support assembly wherein the pulley assembly, when activated by the drive mechanism, simultaneously moves the first movable leg and the support assembly from the retracted position to the extended position to raise the platform to an elevated position.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 6, 2007Publication date: December 11, 2008Inventor: Andrew Baker
