Abstract: A fluid-distribution system includes a plurality of fluid-distribution nodes with three-way ports attached to bleed/flush lines and alternate ports attached to vacuum lines. A first pump is used to draw new brake fluid from a new fluid container, push it through the manifold and ports, and through the bleed/flush lines. Fluid flow through the ports is selectively controlled by a computing device. In this manner, a vehicle's brake system including individual brake lines and ABS systems, may be flushed in a prescribed sequence. The vacuum lines are connected to a second pump via alternate ports of the sequential control valve manifold and may be used evacuated air and contaminated brake fluid from the vehicle's bleeder valves or master cylinder. Additionally, the bleed/flush lines may be connected to the alternate ports during priming or purging of the system. This also facilitates storage of the bleed lines as it prevents brake fluid from spilling and prevents air from entering the system.

  • Patent number: 7575029
Abstract: A tool assembly includes a body supporting a rotatable nut which receives and mates with a bleeder valve threaded into a hydraulic fluid system such as a caliper wheel brake or a clutch for a motorcycle. The nut is sealed to the system, and the nut is rotated to move the bleeder valve to an open position while maintaining the seal between the nut and the fluid system. A passage within the body and the nut provides for evacuating the system and then charging fluid into the system. The nut is rotated to move the bleeder valve to its closed position, and the nut is then unclamped and unsealed from the fluid system. In one embodiment, the bleeder valve is gripped to clamp and seal the nut to the fluid system, and in another embodiment, the nut is sealed to the system using a clamping member opposing the nut.

  • Patent number: 7500723
Abstract: A reservoir tank has an inlet/outlet port communicating with a master cylinder, and a hydraulic fluid supply port provided directly opposite the inlet/outlet port. A tubular portion is provided on the inner surface of the tank. The tubular portion has an internal passage communicating with the inlet/outlet port and having a top opening. A box-shaped member has its bottom plate fitted on the tubular member. The bottom plate is formed of a filter material. A deflector plate is supported on legs extending upwardly form the bottom plate of the box member so as to be disposed right over the top opening of the tubular portion. The deflector plate deflects the flow of hydraulic fluid such that it will not be directed toward the hydraulic fluid supply port, thereby preventing hydraulic fluid from being blown out through the hydraulic fluid supply port even if this port is open.

Abstract: Automotive service equipment for brake fluid exchange includes a central unit having a controller for operating the equipment and a communication module for wirelessly communicating with each of a plurality of remote bleed modules to control bleeding brake fluid from respective brake bleeders of a vehicle connected to the modules. The brake fluid from the brake bleeders is stored in containers in the modules for later removal. When disconnected from the brake bleeders, the modules are moved to docking stations on the central unit for emptying brake fluid from the module containers and vacuum charging the containers for brake bleeding. The automotive service equipment and related method of performing brake fluid exchange in an automotive vehicle avoid the use of hoses for returning the waste fluid to the central unit thus reducing the problem of storage and handling of such hoses and spillage of residual fluid left in the hoses.

  • Patent number: 7455369
Abstract: A spring-actuated parking brake includes a spring brake actuator communicating with a fluid source via a supply line. In brake released condition, the actuator is pressurized via a supply valve; in engaged condition, the actuator communicates with a pressure sink via the supply valve and a pressure-relief line. During brake engagement, the supply valve and a shutoff valve between the supply valve and actuator are switched to flow-enabled position for pressure relief of the actuator placing it in communication with the pressure sink. For brake release, the supply valve is switched to the fluid source and the shutoff valve is switched to fluid-passing position communicating with the fluid source to pressurize the brake cylinder. After brake engagement, the shutoff valve is switched to shut-off position decoupling the actuator from the supply line; the supply valve is switched to flow-enabled position placing the supply line in communication with the pressure sink.

  • Patent number: 7426983
Abstract: A damper for an airplane landing gear leg comprises a main strut (11) and a rod piston (13) co-operating with the strut (11) to define a main chamber (15) and annular chamber (16) for hydraulic fluid, and presenting internally two adjacent chambers (19, 20) that are isolated from each other by a separator piston (21). The damper (10) further comprises a first secondary strut (26) telescopically Slidable on the above-mentioned rod piston (13), and a second secondary strut (37) telescopically slidable on the other end of the first secondary strut (26). The two second annular chambers (31, 40) as defined in this way are respectively connected to associated control circuits thus enabling the total length of the damper to be shortened or lengthened respectively for the purpose of causing the landing gear to contract or to be extended.

  • Patent number: 7374253
Abstract: The invention discloses a method for determining the air content of the brake fluid in a hydraulic braking system. This method also permits determining the quality of the bleeding of the braking system. The principle of the method is a comparison of the volume intake with the respectively achieved pressure. The correlation is compared to nominal values. As the volume intake is determined by the clearance, the system is set by means of a pre-actuation to an initial condition before each actual measurement.

  • Patent number: 7344206
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for degassing a hydraulic vehicle brake system that has an external-force service brake system and a muscle-powered auxiliary brake system. For the degassing, brake pressure buildup valves are opened, preferably successively, so that brake fluid flows through the brake pressure buildup valves, disconnection valves and a master cylinder and reaches a brake fluid reservoir. The brake fluid positively displaces any brake fluid containing gas from the vehicle brake system into the brake fluid reservoir, where gas bubbles can escape from the brake fluid. Compressibility of the brake fluid from gas bubbles is avoided.
