  • Patent number: 5732817
Abstract: Apparatus for holding folding clothing in a compact bag, particularly one suited for storage under seats or in overhead bins on commercial aircraft is disclosed. A two part folding panel is connected at one edge parallel to a hinge between two compartments of a suitcase. A hanger carrying an article of clothing is attached to a hook on the interior of a side wall opposite the hinge so that the clothing lays across the bottom of the compartment and portions of the folding panel. Two arcuate padded bars are provided over the hinge and over a fold line on the folding panel so that the clothing is wrapped around same with a relatively large radius of curvature when the first panel segment is folded along the fold line over the second panel segment, and the composite folded panel is then folded into one compartment of the suitcase.

  • Patent number: 5628397
Abstract: Garment bags have been designed to carry garments on hangers, but have resulted in varying capabilities to help resist wrinkling these hanging garments during transport and storage. Disclosed is a garment bag with an arrangement of auxiliary pockets and compartments to help resists wrinkling. Specifically, one or more generally semi-cylindrical shaped pockets extend across the width dimension of the main packing compartment of the garment bag. When the bag is packed and folded in its transport configuration, the hanging garments fold or drape around these packed cylinder shaped compartments thus the garments are less likely to wrinkle.

  • Patent number: 5117951
Abstract: A garment container apparatus includes a rigid outer structure having hingably connected first and second storage sections with rigid side walls defining opposite sides of the container when closed. The first storage section has at its base, adjacent the hinged connection with the second storage section, a plurality of moveable storage enclosures. The enclosures are hingably connected to the base for swinging movement between a stored position and an open position. The first storage section also includes a garment support structure having two support members attached at a 90.degree. angle to each other. One support member is pivotally connected to opposed margin walls of the first storage section for opening and closing movement. A mounting structure including an inflatable bladder and a cooperating restraint bar is integral to the pivot mounted support member and defines a compression zone therebetween.

  • Patent number: 4863018
Abstract: Luggage case have included devices for holding garments on hangers. These devices usually consisted of a clamp-like device for holding the hook portion of special hangers together with a ladder-like rack which was laid over the garments in the case. Then the garments were folded over this ladder-like device. Such systems tended to the cumbersome and did not easily permit the use of ordinary closet hangers. The disclosed system includes a buckle and strap arrangement that holds the hook portions of a number of closet type hangers, regardless of style or construction, snugly and compactly near a wall of the luggage case. A simple packing bar comprises a laterally extending rod held by flexible rod supports. The rod supports are detachably pivotably mounted to opposite side walls of the case and have a length which permits adjustable positioning of the rod relative to the bottom wall of the case depending on the number and thickness of the clothing being packed.

  • Patent number: 4693368
Abstract: An article of luggage includes a garment bag enclosure and a packing case enclosure which advantageously cooperate with one another in a transportation state or condition and a use state or condition. The packing case enclosure is preferably connected to an inner panel of the garment bag enclosure. In the transportation condition, the garment bag enclosure folds over the top of the packing case enclosure and the luggage article is easily transported by carrying devices attached preferably to the exterior panel of the garment bag enclosure. In the use orientation, the interior panel of the garment bag enclosure is disconnected, and the packing case enclosure moves or pivots outward to an extended orientation. A divider panel provides access to the interior of the packing case enclosure while access to the garment bag enclosure is simultaneously available as a result of the detachment of the interior panel.
