  • Patent number: 5333711
Abstract: A freewheeling device (11) for torque transmitting purposes at small numbers of revolutions, e.g. at low driving speeds, has two freewheeling parts (14, 17) connected via locking members (25). The locking members (25) engage apertures (24) of one of the freewheeling part (17) and recess (26) of the other freewheeling part (14). If a certain speed of the two freewheeling parts (14, 17) is exceeded, one freewheeling part (14) may overtake the other freewheeling part (17). Switching is effected via a switching cage (29) loaded by centrifugal masses (33) and which moves a switching element (30) into the released position. A spring (36) ensures the transfer into the locked position. A synchronizing device (38) is provided in order to ensure that a transfer into the locked position takes place only at small speed differentials between the two freewheeling parts (14, 17).

  • Patent number: 4098380
Abstract: A sleeve is splined to but axially slidable on a shaft between two gears rotatable relative to said shaft and having fixed lugs on their inner faces. A clutch ring is journalled on each end of the sleeve and provided with clutch dogs engageable with the lugs of one gear when the sleeve and ring are moved toward that one gear. A selector ring slides axially on the sleeve and when moved in one axial direction toward one of the gears it first positively clutches the advancing clutch ring to the sleeve then moves the sleeve and clutch ring toward that one gear to engage the clutch dogs of the advancing ring with the lugs on the one gear. Thereafter, when the selector ring is moved in the other direction, it first releases the clutched ring from the sleeve then repeats the above described clutching in the other direction.

  • Patent number: 4093049
Abstract: This invention relates to freewheels comprising a plurality of rollers interposed between inner and outer races formed on driving and driven members respectively, one of said races having a plurality of wedge-shaped portions equal in number to the number of rollers. The invention is particularly concerned with cageless freewheels of this construction, and discloses a means for moving said rollers between a first position in which the rollers assume an engaged position to transmit rotation to the driven member, and a second position in which the rollers are retained in a disengaged position. This is accomplished by at least one actuating lever interposed in the rollers, and being capable of limited circumferential movement between said first and second positions. In one embodiment the actuating lever has parallel side portions for engagement with adjacent rollers, and in a second embodiment the actuating lever includes a circular section spindle portion rotatably mounted in an axial bore in one of the rollers.

  • Patent number: 4067425
Abstract: Clutch apparatus having a drum having an inner annular clutching face adapted to be secured to the crank shaft of an engine for rotation therewith. A hollow drive shaft centered within the drum carries a plurality of radially movable clutch shoes which are normally urged inwards to a disengaged position by means of an annular tension spring and are moved radially outwards against the tension spring by means by a linearly movable conical wedge which is grooved to accept round-ended stems extending from each of the clutch shoes and which is normally spring-urged into engagement with the shoe stems to move the shoes into clutching engagement with the drum against the action of the coil spring. The conical wedge is operatively connected to a piston which rides in the hollow drive shaft into which a pressurized fluid is injected to operate the piston and move the wedge out of engagement with the shoe stems to enable the tension spring to move the shoes radially inwards out of engagement with the clutch drum.

  • Patent number: 3971258
Abstract: A feed mechanism for a machine tool having an improved stop mechanism which includes a movable stop, a stationary stop, and a rotatable control member. The stationary stop is located on a rotational path of the movable stop which is freely rotatable about a handle shaft. The control member, which can be rotated together with the handle shaft, is adapted to rotate the movable stop together therewith except through a predetermined angular extent, such that the handle shaft for feeding a movable unit of the machine tool may be rotatable more than the movable stop by the predetermined rotational extent.
