Cam Patents (Class 192/93R)
  • Patent number: 6019010
Abstract: The selector rings (9-11) of a gearbox are moved axially of the mainshaft (8) to engage and disengage gears (1-6) by respective pairs of push-rods (15, 16) which extend inwardly between the gears (1-6). The push-rods (15, 16) bear on oppositely-inclined faces (22) of pairs of blocks (17) which slide in slots (18) parallel to the shaft (8) and which engage respective rings (9-11) at diametrically-opposite locations. Actuation of one pair of rods (15; 16) causes their blocks (17) and the engaged ring (9-11) to move in one direction whereas actuation of the other pair causes movement in the opposite direction. The rods (15, 16) slide within mounting blocks (19) inset between pairs of the gears (1-6), and are actuated by the cam surface (26) of a longitudinally-driven rack (25). Alternatively, the push-rods (47, 48 FIG. 8) are actuated by individual hydraulic rams (45, 46).

  • Patent number: 5325947
Abstract: An apparatus for transferring power includes a shaft, a pair of pawls, and an outer member. The shaft has a first end which is connected to an electric motor and a second end which is operatively associated with the pawls. As the shaft turns, the pawls are forced outwardly against a non-circular interior surface of the outer member. As the pawls contact the inner surface of the outer member, they transfer rotational energy from the rotating shaft to the outer member, causing it to also rotate. When power to the electric motor is shut off, the shaft stops turning. The pawls are spring biased inwardly toward the shaft. When the shaft stops turning, the pawls move inwardly toward the shaft and are not connected any longer to the interior surface of the outer member. The outer member is free to spin freely even though the motor is stopped.

  • Patent number: 4673073
Abstract: A normally engaged wrap spring clutch includes a helical spring which normally is wrapped down on the outer surfaces of aligned input and output hubs to couple the latter. One end of the spring is anchored on the input hub and the other end is secured to a control collar which is telescoped over the spring so that, by turning the control collar relative to the input hub, the spring is unwrapped from the surfaces of the hubs to disengage the clutch. Pins project longitudinally into radial slots in the input hub and spiral slots in the control collar and have substantial mass so that, when the input hub reaches a preselected speed, the pins move radially outward under centrifugal force and, through a camming action in the spiral grooves, turn the control collar relative to the input hub thereby unwrapping the spring. In an alternative embodiment, the outwardly moving pins turn the control collar to cause the spring to wrap down and cause engagement of a normally disengaged clutch.

  • Patent number: 4566566
Abstract: The invention relates to mechanisms for uncoupling two rotating elements. The device includes a positive clutch sliding on a rotating drive element and subjected to the action of a return spring, an energy storage spring stronger than the return spring and designed to disengage the positive clutch, a cam connected to the drive element and designed to tension the energy storage spring, a pawl capable of keeping the energy storage spring tensioned, and an electromagnet intended to actuate uncoupling and connected to the pawl so as to release the energy storage spring. The device is applicable to temporary uncoupling of two coaxial rotating elements in particular in weaving looms, in order to uncouple the crankshaft from the loom and its main motor from the dobby shaft and its auxiliary control motor.

  • Patent number: 4550810
Abstract: A disc brake, particularly suitable for use in tractors and like vehicles, is disclosed. Balls are located in complementary inclined recesses in a pressure plate and in an adjacent end wall of the brake housing. The brake is actuated by radial movement of the pressure plate, which produces a camming effect as the balls tend to ride out of the recesses, so that the pressure plate moves axially to urge a rotatable friction disc into engagement with a surface of the housing. Pilot pins engage with lugs on the pressure plate, constraining it against angular movement, so that when on application of the brake the pressure plate engages the friction disc, the pressure plate is prevented from being carried round with the friction disc, ensuring that no servo effect takes place.

  • Patent number: 4548304
Abstract: A one-way clutch having a pawl member whose attitude is controlled in accordance with the direction of rotation of the input side of the clutch and which turns as the input side rotates in a given direction thus operating to change over between transmission and non-transmission of a driving force by controlling engagement and disengagement in accordance with the direction of rotation and the attitude of the pawl member. In application of this one-way clutch to winding and rewinding devices for cameras when one of a pair of one-way clutches is in the transmitting state by rotation of the motor in a given direction, the other one-way clutch is prevented from becoming engaged as a result of motion of the film.

Abstract: An adjustable frame 6 to 20 applied to a bed, supports selectively rotatable rolls 21, 22 at the level of the bed mattress 2 in parallel and close relation thereto. Said rolls are connected to an electric motor 66 via driving chains 40 around the underside of the bed. A draw sheet 28 extends between the rolls across the upper side of the bed and is wound on both rolls with the patient on the draw sheet. A control box 72 operating on low voltage (e.g. 24 V) current enables the patient or a nurse to turn on the electric motor to rotate in one direction or the other. Each roller is provided with an automatic driving and free wheel clutch 34 providing for driving of each roll only in one direction, namely the direction of reeling, so that when the one roll is being driven the other is freely rotating and vice versa. Furthermore, each driving and free wheel clutch unit 34 can be manually connected and disconnected by use of an external eccentric 48.
