By Distributing Items From One Stream Into Plural Streams Patents (Class 198/436)
  • Patent number: 4003462
Abstract: Logs to be sorted according to species, grade, length, diameter and a variety of other characteristics and parameters, are delivered one at a time crosswise to the infeed end of an elongated conveyor assembly formed of a plurality of longitudinally aligned, transversely articulated conveyors. A retractable stop is associated with the downstream end of each conveyor for releasable abutment by the logs as they progress along the conveyor assembly. Upon such abutment and subsequent tilting of the conveyor, the log thereon is lowered onto a registering transfer conveyor extending laterally thereof. At the outfeed end of the transfer conveyor the log is directed into a sort rack. When the latter has been filled with a plurality of like logs, they are removed as a group for subsequent processing.

  • Patent number: 3989134
Abstract: Method and apparatus for transferring formed articles such as confectionery, bread or the like from a feed conveyor through a displaceable transfer conveyor onto a receiving conveyor, trays or boxes without tumbling, deforming or injuring the formed articles, the transfer conveyor being moved substantially downwardly at a velocity greater than the falling speed by gravity of the articles thereon, and then swung substantially laterally at a velocity sufficient to avoid contacts with the falling articles, and finally returned to its original position.

  • Patent number: 3983988
Abstract: A diverter for use in high speed transferring of selected articles moving along a conveyor onto an intersecting conveyor includes first and second rows of independently driven powered wheels and selectively movable mounting means for the two rows such that they can be moved between a first position where no diverting takes place and a second operative position in which the wheels of the first or upstream row are skewed at a first angle and positioned at a first vertical position above the conveyor surface and the wheels of the second row are skewed at a greater angle and are above the first row.
