  • Patent number: 11957193
Abstract: A load-assisting glove is an apparatus that assists users with the load from a handheld tool such as a shovel. The apparatus may include a work glove and a bracing socket. The work glove maintains the bracing socket at an ergonomic position adjacent to the user's arm. The bracing socket lessens the amount of grip needed to work with the handheld tool. The work glove includes a wrist opening, a palmar portion, and a dorsal portion. The wrist opening enables the user to put on the work glove. The palmar portion protects the palmar area of the hand, while the dorsal portion protects the dorsal area. The bracing socket includes an open socket end and a closed socket end. The open socket end enables the end of the tool handle to be inserted into the bracing socket, while the closed socket end keeps the handle end within the bracing socket.

  • Patent number: 11896351
Abstract: A fiber-optic sensor matt detects movements of a person on the matt that cause microbending of a fiber-optic cable that is arranged into a symmetric pair of radial ring groups within the matt. There are no cross-over points or overlapping of the fiber-optic cable within the symmetric pair of radial ring groups that could cause fiber wear and noisy readings. Microbending of the fiber-optic cable pressed into a mesh modulates the light intensity received, which is analyzed to extract both respiration and heart BallistoCardioGram (BCG) waveforms by convolution with Daubechies dB5 wavelet and scaling functions. The reconstructed level-4 detail waveform is output as the extracted BCG, while the reconstructed level-6 approximation waveform is output as the extracted respiration waveform. Respiration and heart rates and variations can be generated from the extracted waveforms. An integrated Fast Wavelet Transform (FWT) using dB5 wavelet thus generates both respiration rate and heart rate.

  • Patent number: 11690775
Abstract: A grasp assist system includes a glove having a glove palm and fingers, with the glove worn on a user's hand. A sensor measures flexion of the glove fingers, and thus a change of position and/or attitude of the fingers is determined. Finger saddles at least partially surround a phalange of a respective one of the user's fingers. The system uses one or more tendon actuators to pull on flexible tendons. Each tendon connects to a respective finger saddle. A controller is in communication with the actuators and sensor(s). The glove may use feedback from optional contact sensors to adjust tension, and may have a built-in restorative force. In executing a control method, the controller selectively applies tension to the tendons in response to finger flexion, via the tendon actuators, at a level sufficient for moving the user's fingers when the user executes a hand maneuver.
