    Abstract: A shipping unit formed of foldable sheet material is provided for accommodating a pair of chairs arranged in inverted stacked relation. The unit includes an upright container having a bottom and side panels forming a chamber in which the pair of chairs is disposed. A first inner packing member is positioned within the chamber adjacent a lower corner thereof formed along one peripheral side of the bottom. The first inner packing member has a first means for snugly accommodating a segment of the back of the inverted one of the pair of chairs and second means for snugly accommodating the ends of the front legs of the upright one of the pair of chairs. A second inner packing member is positioned within the chamber adjacent an upper corner thereof wherein the inner packing members are diagonally disposed relative to one another.

    Abstract: A unitary paperboard blank for construction of an "L" shaped shipping carton for an irregularly shaped article such as a rocking chair comprises appropriately folded panels forming the top, rear, bottom, front, first knee and second knee carton surfaces. The sides are formed by closure of cushioned flaps which are pivotally articulated at opposite sides of certain of the panels. The "L" shaped carton has at least one inside inverse corner which may be formed of an offset joint and which may be used in conjunction with an extension to secure and protect the enclosed article. The cushioned side flaps may overlap to provide additional protection and the carton may be pre-assembled with the article placed into it from the side, or the article may be placed on the blank and the carton assembled around the article.

When the insert is inside of the box, it holds the headset in the box in a manner such that it will be centered in respect to the walls of the box and held away from the walls in a protected position. The upper portions of the side walls of the container are provided with a plurality of vertically spaced substantially parallel foldlines. A spacer means is positioned in sandwiched relation between the folded closure flaps and the product upper surface. Depending from the base member and affixed thereto are a plurality of retainer elements which snugly engage in encompassing relation peripheral segments of the upper surface of the accommodated product.

    Abstract: In containers for packaging articles such as chairs there has been a problem of the container bulging under compression. These containers have a body portion and a neck portion above the body of the container. The present invention uses a two-piece construction to form the container. The first piece is a front section which has a front wall and two generally L-shaped side walls with closure flaps attached to these walls. Each of the side walls has a neck portion adjacent the rear edge of the wall. The second piece is a back section which has a back panel attached to the side walls along the rear edges by securing flaps; a neck top panel covering the top of the neck portion and secured to the side walls by securing flaps; a neck front panel covering the front of the neck portion and secured to the side walls by securing flaps; and a front securing flap secured to the closure flaps.
