    Abstract: My copending application Ser. No. 41,421 filed Apr. 23, 1987, now abandoned disclosed a (throw-away) packaging construction for Sterilized Dental Bits. These drill bits are so constructed and arranged that it is unnecessary for the Dentist or his assistant to touch the drill bits prior to the time that the bits are used with respect to each particular patient. The necessity for this construction came about to overcome the fear that many dental patients have of being contaminated by a communicable disease such as "Aids", where the Dentist or his assistant touches the drill bits used to drill out decayed portions of teeth that need "filling", or where a drill bit is used that has been previously used on another patient. My copending application discloses individual drill bits packaged in individual containers and closed by individualized closure members after the drill bits have been sterilized.

An apparatus housing includes a gripping region for securing the conventional gripping collar which is affixed around a rotary cutting tool, so as to facilitate insertion and retraction of the tool between tool holding implements and the apparatus itself. The gripping region maintains the rotary cutting tool in a centered aligned position with respect to the longitudinal axis of the apparatus, while at the same time, keeping the entire cutting portion of the tool isolated within the confines of the apparatus housing itself, while in the retracted position.

    Abstract: A tool housing includes first and second coaxial openings on opposite sides of the housing. Wall structure is provided for guiding the key head into the interior of the housing, where the key head is engaged by retaining structure. The second opening has an ejector member mounted therein for movement toward and away from the first opening. When the user of the tool wishes to eject the key from the housing, he pushes on the outer portion of the ejector member, causing the portion of the member innermost to the housing to contact the key head and to disengage and displace it outwardly through the first opening, thereby releasing the key from the housing.

    Abstract: A high speed drilling system is disclosed for high speed drilling of very small holes in workpieces such as printed circuit boards. The X-Y positioning system includes air bearings to provide lift between the stationary guide beams, the crossbeam and the top table, and further includes a vacuum preloading apparatus for providing a preloading force between the table and the guide beam. The preload force dampens Z axis oscillations which can result in drill bit breakage. The top table is a lightweight honeycomb structure, whose effective rigidity is virtually that of the guide beam due to the vacuum preloading. The system includes pairs of spindles, one a conventional spindle for drilling holes larger than about 0.125 inches, and the other a high speed spindle for drilling holes in the range of about 0.003 to 0.125 inches. The high speed spindle includes a stationary spindle body carrying the stator of the rotary drive motor.

In order that the combining clip be held with several others in a heap-like arrangement and be mounted automatically, the clip arm is bent with its free end on the same side of both of the clip legs and the clip legs are formed with enlargements lying approximately opposite each other in the plane of the clip legs. These enlargements are formed by a pair of bent portions, preferably opposing indentations directed toward each other. The indentations are conformed for engagement by a gripper with which the combining clip can be automatically mounted.

    Abstract: A carrying case for drill bits has concave rectangular top and bottom panels pivotably mounted at their rear long edges to a narrow, rectangular hinge strip and fastenable at the front edges of the panel to form a closed box. A drill bit holding block extending inward from the inner surface of the hinge strip contains a plurality of parallel bores disposed perpendicularly downward from the flat upper surface of the block. A longitudinally disposed slot cut through the rear surface of the block communicates with each bore. An elastic band looped around the block and lying in the slot is deformable by a longitudinally disposed, grooved compression strip extending inward from the top panel of the case to apply compressive holding forces on the shanks of drills contained within the bores in the holding block, thereby securing the drills in position with the box closed.

To remove a drill, the package containing the drill is pushed out one end of the carton, and it is detached from the other packages within the carton. The casing is then pulled off the base to expose the drill, and to permit it to be removed.

In order to package a wide range of sizes of die sets in the minimum number of boxes, the outside dimensions of the box remain fixed so that the packages can be utilized in the display case and various supports for the die sets are provided internally within the boxes so as to hold various sizes of die sets in position within the box without substantial vertical, lateral or longitudinal movement of the die set relative to the box. The box and the lids are so structured that when the boxes are stacked on one another in the display cabinet, horizontal movement of the stacked boxes relative to one another is prevented.

    Abstract: A lock installation kit for use in installing, into a door, a dead bolt lock, a lock set with a latch, or other similar types of locks. The kit includes a hole cutter which can drill a hole entirely through a side face of the door, the hole being of a size sufficient to receive therethrough either a doorknob mechanism in the case of a lock set, or a lock cylinder in the case of a dead bolt lock. A template is also included which can be positioned over an edge of the door for locating the hole on the door side face at a predetermined distance from the door edge. In the case of a lock set with a latch, the template also locates the center of the end face of the door, and the kit then includes a wood drill for drilling a hole in the end face of the door of the size sufficient to receive therethrough the latch of the lock set. The hole cutter and template, and also the wood drill in the case of the lock set, together with appropriate instructions, are all combined with a single package.

    Abstract: A container for drills comprises spaced side members interconnected by means of a base and a top and bottom rack, each rack having a plurality of holes, the holes in the top rack being aligned over the holes in the bottom rack, the racks extending between the side members, a swing-away cover is connected to the top of one side piece by means of a pivot screw and extends across the container to the top of the other side piece where it is fastened by means of a removable fastener such that when unfastened the cover can be swung-away and the drills removed from the container.

    Abstract: A unitary holder for a set of masonry drills, or twist drills generally, provides a main vertical plastic back plate upon the front of which are mounted in parallel open ended cylindrical loops of selected sizes for holding drills or other articles in parallel assembly with their shanks disposed in pockets in line with the loops. The pockets receive the shank ends of the drills and hold the drills with their cutting ends on a common level. The loops hold the intermediate parts of the drills. A transverse horizontal cover flange integral with the back plate extends across the plate at right angles thereto a short distance above the loops. An extension of the back plate above the horizontal flange holds all the drills separately--endwise and sidewise--with minimal play. The main sheet which forms the plastic back is flexible in the region between the flange and the upper edge of the row of loops.
