Abstract: A coin conditioner is provided for cleaning or otherwise conditioning coins in a coin discriminator apparatus prior to transfer to a coin sensor. Coins enter through a feed tray and move down the length of a perforated tumbler, preferably without the use of gravity, such as under screw force, mechanical or centrifugal force. The spinning tumbler is preferably rotated about its longitudinal axis by a motor. In one embodiment, a blower or vacuum draws or moves air from one area to another, with the air preferably being filtered. As coins move through and down a tumbler, projections such as vanes, fins, ridges, dimples, spines or other raised features cause mechanical agitation and/or abrasion as coins are lifted and dropped while passing longitudinally through the tumbler. The coins are conditioned and non-coin matter is collected as it is separated and/or abraded from the coin surfaces.

A method of fabricating a screening screen of the above type including the steps of determining the size of the openings in the woof direction and determining the maximum wire size of the warp and woof wires which will produce a maximum woof crimp angle which will not permit the woof wires to slide relative to the warp wires in the woof direction, and determining the length of the openings in the warp direction which will produce a substantially maximum warp crimp angle which will not permit the warp wires to slide relative to the woof wires in the warp direction.
Abstract: The application describes a particle size analyser comprising a horizontally held close-coiled helical spring which is partly filled with the powder under test. The operation of the technique involves stretching the spring to various known lengths and vibrating it in the lateral direction at or around its first harmonic resonant frequency with a low amplitude of vibration. Measurements of the mass of the powder discharged from spring coils for a given spring extension and relating the latter to the particle size of the discharged powder by reference to a previously generated calibration curve provide data on the particle size distribution.
Abstract: The present new, improved rock screed bucket has a solid rectangular back plate together with a framework having a rectangular bottom and a pair of generally triangular shaped sides. The solid rectangular back plate acts as a backstop. The rectangular bottom supports a heavy duty grading screen. A mounting frame is mounted to the rear of the solid rectangular back plate through a plurality of shock absorbing spacers. The conventional arm structures and conventional hydraulic system of a conventional tractor or skid loader connect to the mounting frame. Abstract: A sieving device comprises a sieve with an electrical linear device mounted in spaced apart relation from the mesh of the sieve. Particles supplied to the side of the mesh away from the thrust device are caused by the thrust device to move across the mesh and those which are smaller than the mesh pass through the mesh and towards the thrust device. Conveniently a plate is disposed between the mesh and the plate. Particles passing through the mesh then come into contact with the plate and move along it under the influence of the thrust device.
Abstract: The titanium and zirconium-based minerals, present in the first stage centrifuge tailings from the hot water process for extraction of bitumen from bituminous sands, may be concentrated by a dry screening process. The tailings are burned off to provide a dry, essentially carbon-free, mineral mixture. By screening the mixture into three streams of different particle size range, silica and clays may be rejected as coarse and fine materials respectively, while titanium and zirconium minerals may be concentrated in the intermediate stream. The titanium and zirconium concentrate stream may be advanced to high tension and magnetic separation steps known in conventional processing of heavy minerals, for further beneficiation.

Abstract: Sieve analysis and fineness modulus of particles are adjusted in bulk, without breakdown into size fractions and reblending to tailor a feed product for a given application such as asphalt sand or concrete sand by adjusting the rate of largest size cut and smallest size cut removal in a way to modify the distribution of intermediate fractions.
Abstract: An improved system for the production of digested pulp from wood chips and knots which includes a separating apparatus, connected to the digester output, capable of separating knots from partially cooked wood chips and fibers at the digester pressure and consistency. The separated fibers and fiber bundles pass to a refiner where the fiber bundles are mechanically reduced to fibers in a liquid environment at a high consistency and at the digester pressure. The knots are then re-cycled to the digester or other processes. The separating apparatus above uses a plurality of rotating members such as intermeshing screws or grooved rolls, arranged in a vertical screen to separate an inlet chamber from an outlet chamber. Knots cannot pass through the rotating members and thus are driven out of an outlet which communicates with the inlet chamber. The fibers, however, do pass through the rotating members to the outlet chamber and exit therefrom by a second outlet.
