Abstract: When a specimen transport system transfers a specimen container to a transport rack, the specimen container located at a position adjacent to a transfer position thereof is inclined on the rack, and there is a possibility that the one specimen container may collide with the other specimen container when the one specimen container is transferred. Where the transferred specimen container is inclined after being transferred, and a specimen container transfer mechanism is raised from the location, there is also a possibility that the one specimen container and the other specimen container adjacent thereto may collide with each other. Consequently, an inclination angle of a transferred specimen container and a specimen container adjacent thereto is corrected by loading a specimen container inclination correction mechanism including two inclination correction units at a specimen container transfer position. In this manner, a contact risk is suppressed and a stable transfer process is made possible.

Abstract: A method of sorting material that comprises determining whether a volume of material to be mined or a volume of stockpiled material is upgradable to produce a supply of material of greater economic value. If the determination is positive, the material is dry sorted to increase the grade or economic value. The determination is done by taking a plurality of samples from the initial volume of material and analysing the material to determine if the material is able to be upgraded. The determination can be by X-Ray analysis.

Abstract: The invention relates to a stacker device comprising a support surface (24, 24?) on which a stack (P) of flat articles (O1-On) is formed as the flat articles are inserted and pushed on-edge one-by-one in a main direction (D) against a retaining element (18) for retaining the stack, which element is provided at the front end of said stack. The support surface (24, 24?) is mounted to be free to move in translation in the main direction (D), being moved synchronously with the movement of the retaining element (18) in said direction, thereby imparting excellent stability to the stack formed in this way. The retaining element (18) is also mounted to move relative to the frame (10) and associated with means arranged so as to exert a return force on the stack of flat articles (O1-On) in such a manner as to retain it. The invention also relates to a postal sorting machine equipped with at least one such stacker device.

  • Patent number: 8175327
Abstract: A system for determining in near real-time the product density value of a zone of preferable small fungible products within an acceptable size range in a flow of products includes a sample input piping from a bin or piping of products, a sampling volume for fixing the size of a sample, a scale, a processor, an imaging table and an associated camera. The system may include a sample output pipe, and may include or be associated with a bagger/scale. Operation of these components provides for successively sampling of each zone in the bin to determine the quantity of acceptable product per unit weight and to control the flow of those products. The system therefore can compensate for variations among supplying entities where product supplies are subsequently piled atop one another. The system makes the density calculation available to the plant information system and an automated packaging system, which may be via a 16 bit scaled analoge or a serial interface, among other systems.

Abstract: A sorting installation and a sorting method sort articles, in particular flat mail items, via a plurality of holding apparatuses on the basis of a prescribed sorting feature. The sorting installation contains a plurality of sorting outputs, a loading station and a plurality of holding apparatuses. Each holding apparatus contains two side surfaces, and therefore an article can be placed between the two side surfaces. A respective recess is let into each side surface, and therefore the holding apparatus has a continuous opening. Two grippers can grip an article in the holding apparatus from both sides through the opening. For each article, it is measured what value the sorting feature assumes for the article. The article is put into a holding apparatus. The holding apparatuses with the articles are sorted. The article is removed again from the holding apparatus by the grippers.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method of optimizing a process for handling mail, which method comprises the following steps: subjecting mailpieces to a first machine-sorting cycle in which a plurality of first sorting outlets are allocated to respective ones of a plurality of first delivery destinations having high rates of filling and one other sorting outlet is allocated to second delivery destinations having low rates of filling; directing separators to the first sorting outlets; re-circulating the mailpieces coming from the other sorting outlet; and subjecting them to a second sorting cycle in which the first sorting outlets are allocated to the second delivery destinations. If the sorting outlets use storage bins, at the end of the second sorting cycle, the mailpieces of a first destination and the mailpieces of a second destination are sorted in layers in the same bin by being separated by a separator.
