Flat Grating At Surface Level Patents (Class 210/164)
  • Patent number: 7875172
Abstract: A back-water trap unit comprises a housing having an outer perimetric wall sealed to a base to define an enclosure, and a removable housing cover comprising inlet apertures. An interior wall, shorter than the housing wall, is sealed to the base to define an inner compartment and an outer compartment within the enclosure, the inner compartment being sealed by a cover secured to the upper interior wall edge and the inside of the housing wall. A flapper valve secured to the interior wall within the inner compartment is rotatable in response to liquid pressure to open or close an inlet aperture proximate the lower interior wall edge. An outlet through the housing wall as high as or above the upper edge of the inlet aperture allows discharge of fluid from the inner compartment, while the flapper valve prevents unwanted back-flow from the inner compartment to the outer compartment.

Abstract: A multiple inlet flow regulator with a restricted low-level inlet and upper-level overflow inlet is used to modify a new or existing storm water catch basin to regulate the flow of storm water from the catch basin into the sewer system. During periods of heavy rains and high flows into the catch basin, this flow regulator will allow the catch basin to serve as a temporary storage tank for storm water. The construction of these flow regulators can be accomplished using a variety of off-the-shelf components or custom fabrication, to achieve the desired effect of restricting the discharge from each catch basin in a combined sewer or storm water system as much as practicable without resulting in overflows onto the roadways.

Abstract: A floor drain system includes a tray having a well, a riser installable in the tray, and a plurality of beads fixable within the well and outside the riser. The tray includes a perimeter flange attachable to a subfloor, and the well extends downwardly from the perimeter flange. A hollow stem extends downwardly from the well and is connectable to a drain pipe. The riser is installable at a selectable elevation within the stem of the tray, and has an interior drainage pathway orientable toward the drain pipe. The riser defines a seepage pathway outside of the riser and within the stem. The plurality of beads, when fixed together, form a permeable drain field bonded to both the riser and the tray, whereby liquid can pass through the drain field to the seepage pathway.

Abstract: Device inserted into a drain so that the top surface of the device is positioned and supported at the drain surface by means of a flange at the top surface of the device and sealing the drain by means of a gasket between the flange and the drain perimeter surface. Waste water, referred to as “gray water”, directed to the drain enters the device by passing first through a thin horizontal plate perforated with numerous small holes to remove hair and debris and then passes through larger openings in the surface plate directly beneath the hair and debris guard. The water accumulates in the collection chamber and is extracted through means of a pick-up tube within the collection chamber having a fitting extending through the top of the device for connection to a fluid conduit attached to a suction pump. The extracted gray water is diverted or stored for reuse.

The size of the interstices being held to a minimum so that fingers of a human cannot be sucked into the openings. The top surface of the grate cover has a curvature thereon while the bottom surface is flat. This way, the forceful suction within the sump cannot obtain enough force to suction the skin of a human against the grate cover to cause any injuries.

Abstract: A grating system includes a first welded subassembly and a second non-welded subassembly joined to one another. The first subassembly includes spaced elongated bearing bars and spaced elongated cross bars extending transversely to the bearing bars. The second subassembly includes spaced elongated filler bars and spaced elongated cross bars extending transversely to the filler bars. The filler bars extend in the same direction as the bearing bars and are disposed in sets between adjacent bearing bars. The bearing bars include spaced notches in which are received the first subassembly cross bars and the second subassembly cross bars, which are aligned above the first subassembly cross bars. The subassemblies have respective upper surfaces which are flush with one another. The first subassembly is configured to support vehicle traffic and the second subassembly is configured to support pedestrian traffic.

Abstract: A grating (1) and a method of manufacturing the same using a pressing process are disclosed. The grating manufacturing method of the present invention includes the step of bending opposite ends of a metal plate to form a main surface (5) and supports (4), each having a predetermined height, the step of drawing a plurality of water drain slot formation portions of the main surface (5) to form slot frame parts (3), each having a predetermined depth, and the step of perforating bottoms of the slot frame parts (3) to form water drain slots (2). Therefore, the present invention provides a grating (1) that can sustain a relatively heavy load despite being manufactured through a simple pressing process, and a method of manufacturing the same through the pressing process.

Abstract: Embodiments of a filtration device, kit and method related to filtration in storm water systems are disclosed. A filtering device generally includes a mat adapted to filter water flowing through an inlet. The mat may have a top with a mesh cover, a main filtering portion and a bottom. The main filtering portion is formed of randomly-aligned fibers and a binding agent which impart a porosity that allows water to flow through generally unimpeded while sediment is filtered by the mat. A filtration kit is provided which could include the mat or other filtering device, a plurality of attachment members and a plurality of disks which allow for securing of the attachment members. Filtration device and kit are generally easy to install and clean, durable, less expensive than competing systems, and reusable.

  • Patent number: 7309420
Abstract: A temporary trap having baskets and optionally filters in the baskets used in conjunction with inlets for sewer systems to keep debris, oils or chemicals from being washed into the sewer during construction of roads and sewers. The trap is a box, typically rectangular, square or round, with baskets having a plurality of holes therein for allowing water to pass therethrough while trapping debris therein. The trap is inserted into a inlet by lifting the grate off the inlet frame, inserting the trap and then replacing the grating. After a rain the baskets and filters may be cleaned out and reused or replaced. When the construction project is finished the grate is lifted off the inlet frame and the trap removed. The trap has an overflow opening in case the trap becomes clogged.
